I really love her voice. It’s professional and exuberant in a subtle yet enthusiastic way that is absolutely perfectly toned for a nature video series. It exudes an intellectual appreciation and curiosity that expresses admiration of the natural wonders of the world without being stale, juvenile or annoying like most RUclips channels do these days. She’s spot on and I would only expect to find such talent on BBC Earth or PBS.
I absolutely HAD to watch this one, as a casual home gardener. I find lacewing eggs near my lavender or lime almost every year and make sure they're nice and safe cause I love those little guys.
Vibrations in surfaces such as plants are a whole crazy world of sound and communication that humans completely overlook, air-hearing creatures that we are.
@@MrTripcore No, air carries vibrations very differently than a surface. Air transmits waves as pressure waves, propagating by compression along the axis of travel, while surface waves travel perpendicularly. Surfaces can sustain a wider array of frequencies, allowing very small animals like treehoppers to make use of lower-frequency sounds than they would otherwise, and waves can propagate further through a solid surface for a given amount of energy than through air.
@@MrTripcore But mechanically air functions differently, and carries different kinds of information. It's correct to describe it as a medium, but not a surface.
Here's the video we made showing western subterranean termite alates being predated on by spiders and ants on their way to meeting their mate: ruclips.net/video/1yI5DXH6z88/видео.htmlsi=vgBvJCmC3XdFvfRW Enjoy!
Lacewing larvae are so cute! I love those chubby little spuds and appreciate what they do (even if their prey is adorable too). There's something very clumsy and cute about the way they try to nip at their surroundings, and how they often struggle to hold things with them.
Hoverfly larvae are also voracious predators of aphids. Ladybirds and fireflies are beetles though, hoverflies are true flies and lacewings are related to antlions in the Neuroptera. I think baby antlions do look a lot like baby lacewings
Insects that sound like purring cats? It’s almost like Monster Bug Wars but phenomenally less over the top and far more fascinating. That was a burn aimed at Monster Bug Wars.
Yeah, i feel all of Monster bug Wars match-ups were ridiculous, and staged for the camera. kinda cruel really. I remember feeling really cheated when they just pitted entire ant colonies against single bugs.
The whole video was so well shot and scored!! The music, the voiceover, the viiiiibes all contributed to a video that felt like more than just a whimsical bit of nature. One might say “deeper”. My favorite sequence was the “single and ready to mingle” shot of the lacewing grooming its antenna, for cuteness reasons.
Shout out for the excellent sound design and music orchestration on this one. Even the little touches like the vibes at 0:42 when the narrator says "its his vibes that really matter"
I’ve never even seen a lacewing, adult or larva. I wonder if they just don’t live in my part of Canada. We miss out on a lot of cool, gorgeous, and fascinating bugs simply due to our harsh winters.
Does anyone can not hear any sound the lacewing made in the video or it just only me ???. I try to hear what kind of sound it made but can't hear anything, i'm so confused 🥲
Maybe my tablet is just old, but i couldnt hear the lacewing songs. Or it might have gotten lost amidst the music you added. My minor criticism would be to up the animal vocalisations/stridulations and tune down or out the music track in moments when the animals are the focus. Otherwise, great video as always!
I really like when we use natural means of dealing with pests instead of chemicals if possible. Seems like a win for everyone... including the pest that might be around for a little bit.
We wanted to get to the ravenous, aphid-eating larvae quickly, so we skipped the eggs. These green lacewings have so many interesting features! Thank you for watching!
one time a green lacewing larva somehow appeared, crawling on the wall of my room. no idea how it got there, but it was a neat sight! i brought it to the park afterwards cuz there's nothing for it to eat on my houseplants lol
We hear you: We love filming the passage of time. But for this episode we decided to focus on the adults' noisy vibrations. We thought our fans would really enjoy that unusual behavior. We're glad you loved the episode! We love our fans!
There seems to be some convergent evolution in the look of aphid hunting larva. I might have guessed that baby was a lady bug larva if I didn't know what I was watching. But, I guess I haven't seen a lot of leggy larvae. Those mandibles though are pretty distinct.
Green lacewing larvae have more impressive mandibles. Here's our video on ladybug larvae so you can be the judge: ruclips.net/video/FCFUk4f3zXw/видео.htmlsi=-cgmKeS1f6VMPHx1 Enjoy!
They're trying to get the vibes on each other.
mom i cant sleep right now im looking at how lacewings mate
Alright! But when you bring your girlfriend over don't sound like the lacewing, mmmmmk

I was literally going through my notifications before bed when I saw this video and was like, "...ok, yeah. I guess this is happening now."

Thank you for your exuberant compliments! We agree. Our host Laura Klivans is fantastic!
@ ❤️
I agree. Laura Klivans voice turned sultry as the male & female lace wings drew closer to each other.
Nice touch, well executed!
she too excited she lowkey is a bug
100% amazing narrator voice
"taste each other" is how i'm going to describe kissing from now on
That's such a romantically weird way to say it, but okay. 😅
A little freaky, but you do you!
I absolutely HAD to watch this one, as a casual home gardener. I find lacewing eggs near my lavender or lime almost every year and make sure they're nice and safe cause I love those little guys.
Yes! And these little guys are natural pest control 😍
THEIR LITTLE EYES OMG THEY'RE SO CUTEEE
Tasting each other through the mouth before the deed? That’s very familiar! 😮
Hah

Is air not a surface that vibrates

Hearing Laura say "I will" is everything I've followed this channel for for years.
Watching some lacewing courting is just what I needed for my afternoon relaxation!
its true bro
that's gotta be the most romantic insect i've seen yet
I vote for termites.
The king does not only survive the mating but also helps in building up the colony and feeding her.

@@molybdaen11 well, I've never seen footage of it so green lacewings are still the most romantic I have seen.
"will you accept this vibration?"
"I will"
All I can picture is you sitting on the floor playing with Barbie's 😂.
Hahaha.
That was my favorite line!!! 😂❤

They really are quite adorable.
The green lacewing larvae reminds me of the ladybug larvae.
Maybe a video on their lifestyle ?
just wanted to say that... and firefly larva is very similar...
Hoverfly larvae are also voracious predators of aphids. Ladybirds and fireflies are beetles though, hoverflies are true flies and lacewings are related to antlions in the Neuroptera. I think baby antlions do look a lot like baby lacewings
Not especially similar, ladybug larvae have very normal mouths and heads. But this does look oddly similar to a predacious diving beetles larva.
The soundtrack in these videos are always fantastic!
Seth Samuel composes an original score for each of our episodes!

Romantic little fellas. Great footage!
They're like anti-crickets... that sound would lull me to sleep like asmr.
The narration to this one was specially good.

This might be the best Deep Look episode ever

The sound is a low rumbling. We're sorry you're having a hard time hearing it.
Its a bit deep but its audible from my iphone speaker
you have to crank up the volume. Unfortunately, the voice and the soundtrack are at different levels.
Lacewing are sooooo unberrated!

Have any farmers played those sounds (in the actual range) to see if it brings more lacewings (and fewer plant-harming pests)?
this video is gold for bass lovers. it's continuous booms
So romantic 💓💗! I love a good love story. Also that’s a funny looking baby 🥴
My brother is literally traumatized after seeing 1:52
Deep look is the best!❤️
Yay! new episode!

Watched My 1st Deep Look Video And Ive Never Left Love Them💯💙
Salut! trés bien video! (Learning french)
Salut ! Merci !
I see green lacewing literally everday yet I didn’t know they exhibited such behavious, beatiful insects!
“But sometimes more than one lacewing responds to a call, and the drama heats up.” Sounds like any Saturday night at the club.
I absolutely love watching ur channel!
Please 🙏 keep sharing, but MORE 😃
Always teaches me something new
Love every one of your videos. Thank you.
We're so happy you enjoy our videos! We love making them!
but you didn’t show the eggs on stalks!!!
We wanted to get to the ravenous, aphid-eating larvae quickly, so we skipped the eggs. These green lacewings have so many interesting features! Thank you for watching!
Love them in the spring and summer
Yay!! A new Deep Look video!
my favorite thing about lacewings is how their eggs look like tiny cattails
Only thing better is finding lacewing eggs in one's garden. They are lovely.
Good vibrations 🎶🎶
I am curious, do you guys make your own music for these short documentaries? you have your own band/studio? its amazing!
I found Seth Samuel's videos about his music, he's really amazing!
Yes, he is!

I love watching green lacewings flutter around at night. Thanks for this Deep Look!
amazing !!!!!
absolutely brilliant, gorgeous love story
We're so glad you enjoyed it!

It’s 2:26 AM and this is my “One more video before bed.”
Spectacular footage! And Laura's delivery cracked me up. Well done. :-) 🕳👀

These contests are much more likable than the ones on the human bachelor
I wish these were longer
I just watched Dune recently, and hearing their vibration sound, it hit different. 😂
Male voices have potential . Healing orthers . Maybe cat lades gsr cats for puring
Lacewing love...tasting and vibrating! Who knew insect romance could be so passionate?
Wow the vibrations even went through my earphone. Kinda offputting
That's so me, i found my lover at a music party that we both were vibing :)
Pretty cool!
Their eyes are really big
every time we open our door, more of these delicate critters flies inside our house 🤦♀
Please keep this chanel family friendly 🙌
Do adult lacewings eat anything? They seem to have mouth parts but little is said about their adult life.
they eat small insects like their larvas
Weirdly, like, yesterday I thought “I wonder why deep look hasn’t done a lacewing episode” and now here one is…
They have beautiful eyes like 🌟 😮
EPIC
"honey, the neighbours are doing it,i can feel the vibrations"
said the lacewing husband to his wife
Green lacewings are amazingly effective beneficial insects‼️👍🏽🇺🇸🌎♾️
Checking in from the San Joaquin Valley
Hi Amanda!
Truly intriguing. Are you my type? Yep sounds like it. 😊
They're pretty, the wings, anyway. Anything that eats pests, but not the plants, is welcomed.
Omg that's crazy that they kiss!
I want Laura to narrate all my audiobooks
Are they selective about the sound besides discriminating the right species or is it just a way for them to find each other?
Are they harmful?
Why do they smell like that tho? I can't exactly explain their smell, but it's really distinct.
😊❤❤❤
Those vibrations sound like some kind of kaiju heartbeat or maybe my bass was set too high? lol, sounds cool though!
The larvae kind of look like antlions. Similar eating method too, what with the liquefying their prey business and all
They do look similar. Thanks for watching!
@@KQEDDeepLook thank you for always giving us amazing videos!
what do the adults eat? are they pollinators?
