After the light bulb switched on abt the religion, initial feelings were fear, disgust & anger for the religion. I asked myself "what the f did I get my life into?" But I couldn't speak up abt it coz of the snitching policy

Dear Charley, You are special and you are loved. I appreciate hearing about your journey and where you are at now. Your position on “organized religion” is completely understandable. I only hope that you will one day be able to see that God doesn’t want you to be a member of a religious organization, but He does genuinely desire to have a relationship with you through His Son Jesus Christ. Your journey is your own and you need to navigate it in the best way that you can. May God bless you and keep you in His loving care.

Thank you as always, this i can so relate to, still finding out who i am right now, totally feel the same way about any organised religion it would be to me running back into a house fire after the flames have burnt me to the bone, really not gonna get burnt again, i know some will need something again, religion is big business with alot of draw, but, not going to judge others choices, but so many years taken, sadness of missed years, id hate to be negative and bitter or angry but been all them things, but its not in me to be bitter and i try to be happy as much as possible, too many emotions come up from time to time overwhelming and that when a great need to talk to others that gone through the same as only they will understand as it was our whole life, now we feel a release but also have to place alot of things. Thank you for your words make me feel less alone (i have some friends but none that will beable to really understand, also wouldnt want to explain either as it hurts) xx x

To be honest, I’ve hardly met anyone who has left any cult and not felt this way. Everything happens for a reason like you said. I totally understand where you’re coming from because I grew up in a cult (much stricter than JW) as well but finally left about 5 years ago although I had been quietly questioning things even before I was an adult. One of the things my support group told me was to not rush into another church or cult (which is what a lot ex cult members do due missing out on a community). Anyway, I wish you and your family well as you heal. I don’t want to say anything that would trigger you because I know the feeling. Take care of yourself.

Hi Charley. I was one for 28 years before I was disfellowshipped. People don’t understand being a JW is a way of life and not just a religion. It reaches into every corner of your life. Here’s what I want to say to you…. You do not need to ever be part of an organized religion to have faith in God. Throw out your NWT bible, if you haven’t already and go buy a new bible. You can read the bible and pray to God without ever going to a church or joining one. Just some thoughts. I would hate a bad experience that happened to you take you away from God. It took me 30 years after my disfellowshipping to open up my heart to God again. HE is good….all others are imperfect humans that cannot be relied on ❤

@moko7942 -- the saddest part about the journey of rebuilding one's life is the years lost that one cannot get back. When a religion shapes the way you think about the future, the ramifications can be staggering. There are people who never saved for retirement, there are people who put off having children; the ramifications are life-altering. When Charley mentions that she didn't know what or who to trust, that's an even bigger issue.

Personally I do not think you need to be in a pescribed Religion of any label . If you know , believe or think you have a God aka maker if you within your mind as I do sometimes talk to your maker or say a prayer to your maker you can and you seem a kind and caring person so you must be living to the right qualities
