Every elderly person ever born is told some young person to treasure every moment because it goes by so quickly. Life is very fickle too. The first ten minutes of this movie are a short film masterpiece.

To me, Up!, Serenity & John Wick have the absolute BEST (5-10 minute) introductions of ANY movie!
They ALL convey SO MUCH in such a short time.
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. I watched it a few years after my own wife had passed. Childhood sweethearts, married young and lost her a few years later. No one in my family had any idea what this movie was about and we just assumed it was something fun for all of us to watch the with my niece and nephew. My poor sister was horrified when Ellie had passed on 😅
I was both laughing at the situation and crying because of how closely it hit home. It was such a healing movie, I found myself watching it over and over. It really teaches you about grief and how it’s okay to let things go. Doesn’t necessarily mean to forget, but to not let it hold you back from continuing to live on.

I can't imagine what the premiere was at the theatre. All the adults were probably choking back tears while all the kids were probably like why are you crying mommy/daddy? A legendary opening. Pixar must've known they stuck gold with it.
The most devastating opening to a movie ever. I fell apart at the movie theatre watching this the first time. In my book this is the greatest PIXAR film ever made, and that is out of a dozen of their films that I consider masterpieces.
It's definitely a masterpiece, and omg i wish i could experience it in cinema, thanks for watching ❤

I lost my grandfather when I was 9 and I lost my grandmother in 2022. So watching UP all over again, no matter how many times I've seen it, the first 10 minutes and Carl opening the rest of the pages of Ellie's adventure book knowing that her adventure is her married life with Carl. So watching this film again and again no matter how many times I've seen it, this film will always make me cry because I missed my grandparents so much 😭❤️

I never thought about it before, but part of the intro reminds me of the opening of Raising Arizona. Like Carl and Ellie, Hi and Ed are enjoying their marriage and hoping for children. The slow transition shot here matches Hi’s words: “Then the roof caved in.”
This movie is so genius in every way in my opinion. Muntz is probably one of the best villains i've seen in any piece of media (because as soon as he sets the house on fire, i just want to strangle him. that's when you know youve got a great villain.). They made Russel an annoying kid, in the way that he annoys Carl at the beginning, but without being annoying to the audience. The music is beautiful. Despite the movie coming out a whole 15 years ago, the animation still holds up and looks as good as modern-day animation. The jokes with the dogs, despite some of them being inaccurate or not making much sense in the plot, are silly enough that they pass anyway. The whole movie makes you go through so many emotions so quickly and easily. And of course, that first 10-ish minutes is unforgettable.
Watch ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF SPOTLESS MIND......it is one of my couple goals❤️

Just FYI, not sure you remembered later, but the Dad is implied to be a workaholic, it's assumed he used to be more supportive then over time preferred work over time with Russel, this most likely lead to the divorce from Russel's mother. Phillis is most likely a new wife, or a maid. it could also be that his dad got divorced and THEN started ignoring Russel.
The long and short, the father is not dead, he is a just a deadbeat dad who ignores his son and sees him as a nusiance, giving him false promises, Russel wants his old dad back so thinks he can get him to come back as he promised to come and pin on his assisting he elderly badge, though at the end it is shown his dad is still a deadbeat and doesn't show up, but Mr Fredrickson does instead.

What makes this all the more emotional is that some people were speculating that Russel is the kid that Carl and Ellie were not able to have

@@YoureMrLebowski Imelda and Ernesto singing is MY favorite. That performance was simply spectacular, and I always get this dumb grin while watching it! It's tense and humorous and just a straight up great performance! Other scenes are incredible for their focus on one or two emotions, but that one balances a bunch of feelings and hits them all beautifully!

If someone has functioning human emotions, it's impossible not to cry during this absolutely glorious movie. Truly one of my favorite movies of all time, animated or otherwise. I'm so glad you called out the incredible music in this film; it's definitely one of the most important and impactful elements. Michael Giacchino, the composer, is an absolute genius.

Worse than getting to live your entire life with the one you love the most in this world. Is being deeply in love and happily married for twenty eight years. Only to have your partner go through such a horrible menopause that they become someone else completely. And no matter what you do for them. You're no longer good enough and in their hormonal distressed mind those wonderful twenty eight years of love and happiness. Is only remembered as twenty eight years of suffering and emotional abuse.
It was like someone had just flipped a switch. Her mother lost her mind as well during menopause. But I was hoping that drastic degree of menopause would at least skip a generation. I , unfortunately, was wrong.
I will die alone. I'm already too old and too broken down to be of any use to anyone. But I choose to continue existing at least for now. Because life can change on a dime and when I used to work with troubled teens. I always warned them to Not make any permanent solutions for temporary problems. Because life can turn on a dime and will always when you least expect it to.
Great reaction you two. I'm an emotional movie watcher myself. And I'm former Military Police and a former chef and chef instructor. I'm Six foot three and weigh three hundred and thirty pounds. But I still cry like a baby at many different movies.
