Fastidious Restomods I am a “scrimper” because for too long, I had to make due with what I had. Outside the box thinking... it’s part of fabrication, right? I’m doing LMTV rims and tires today... should have something to show for the work by tomorrow. Can’t wait to have you out and see Rusty and Paul for the first time. Priorities not necessarily in that order.
Oh boy! If you have an FMTV... tomorrow's video will be the definitive guide to popping apart the split rim on a old worn out and stubborn FMTV tire (395/85R20)... and then mounting the newer Goodyear MV/T to the FMTV rim. Hope to see you again!
I had wished at the time of making this video there were more out there. My contribution to the community was small, but getting great comments like yours, knowing it might have been helpful to you, is all that matters to me.
Love the 16” rim trick. And pulling the bead lock the way you do it is so much easier than using a ratchet strap to compress it. Thanks for the video Dave. :)
In the next one coming out tomorrow... I use your techniques! Thank you for giving me such great content at the event. I know there were many others that were also very thankful for that. And... "I'm not scared anymore!"
Excellent question! I removed them only because I had heard about how monsterously difficult they were to remove and put back in. I wanted to find out for myself. You actually cannot run these without the bead locks (that I know of). I put them back in and slapped on an FMTV split rim so I can use the tires on my trailer.
You get a work-out today? Bet you did. At least you got the two M142 rims off the tires that you wanted. I also see that you have at least one FMTV rim apart, so I guess you are half way there? Best of luck, and don't let a tire fall on you.
Work out?! You can say that again. I got the other tire done today... have at least two more LMTV old tires to take care of, though. Yeah, I will probably make an LMTV workout video at some point. It sounds like something I would do.
M Verdone you will really like the new release today... working with LMTV rims and tires. It a little different because parts of the CTIS for the rim are in it as well.

Hello! I replaced the back four tires, using michelin xzl 395 85 r20, new, mounted on mrap aluminum wheels, like what you have. What did you do with the aluminum rims? There doesny seem to be a market for them...
I found a guy that was doing some mods with an MRAP axle swap that I sold the rims to, for basically scrap. I couldn't use them... though I loved the design and the weight savings!
💯😁love those rims and tires
Me too! They’re just a bit heavy is all. 😂
Nice work Sir!
Thank you kindly! It's a work out.
I knew I should have hung onto my Subaru brake rotors and 16" steelies... you got all the tricks Dave...

Thanks for the tutorial Sir.
Just doing my part for the community I love. I'm glad it helped!
@@HelicoolsHelipad yeah, it helps a lot Sir.
Awesome, thanks for sharing, I subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! Lots and lots more to come.
Those were nice looking rims...
I wish they would fit the LMTV, but no dice. Must be 60 lbs. lighter and so much easier to work with.
I like that tip: "If you have a long stem...."
I have a long stem, and I surely don't want to overheat it or strip it!
When you put the rims back together, use anti-seize... it really helps for the "next time."
@@HelicoolsHelipad Roger that!
Awesome video I learned a lot
You never know i may have to do it one day 😆

Excellent tutorial. I'm researching wheels and rims for an international 7000 series overlander conversion.

Thanks Dave.... You made it look easy. Now changing out all 6 of Jolly's tires doesn't seem so daunting...
Paul D I got another video coming out, probably tomorrow... don’t miss it. That one is the one that will be most helpful! Take care, my friend.

Muy bien 👍
Muchas gracias. Me alegro de que te haya gustado.
Why did you remove the bead locks? Are you not going to run them?

I wish I saw this yesterday. Literally doing the same thing and switching over xzl’s from Hutchinson’s. One down, 4 to go. Great job!

Dave you wouldn't happen to have 4 of those alum. mrap wheels that fit a lmtv that you would like to sell?
I already sold them... sorry.
