  • A Trader Vic’s early rum classic to enjoy. Tangy grenadine and mixed citrus with a mild rum linger. Trader Vic's 1st rum cocktail invention, 1972. Comes in at 18% ABV.
MIXING NOTES: Other rums that can be utilized are Cruzan Aged Light, Denizen white, Bacardi light, Don Q light, Trader Vic's Silver. The Trader’s grenadine makes the cocktail pink and is very robust here, so don't overpour. Rose’s might work as well, as it also adds flavor with color. I believe a little less OJ (1 1/4) is called for to balance the other juices out (I am using Naval). A bit more light rum will elevate this up from a “punch” ABV category.
P.S. For a tweak on this one, I used Plantation 5 YO aged Barbados and it added a noteable rum essence. But of course, the original recipe was violated.
    X1
2 Plantation 3 stars (Jam Barb Trin 82.4 proof)
½ Bols orange curaçao (USA 60 proof)
1½ orange juice (fresh squeezed) recommend 1 1/4 for Naval
    ¾ lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
    ½ lime juice (fresh squeezed)
    ¼ grenadine (Trader Vic's)
Ninja dry mix 3 sec, all into cracked ice filled compote bowl, straw
