Great advice, thank you! Also, before you even go on a date, always run a background check. You’d be surprised how many narcissists/ con artists have criminal history. I wish I knew this years ago… And BEWARE of picture tell-tell signs. If someone has a single picture of himself staring in the mirror, you’re likely dealing with a narcissist. I dated someone whose profile had one (bathroom) picture and he also lied about where he lived- over an HOUR away! He lied about so many things, it took me awhile to unravel it… Never trust anybody until they EARN your trust. If you don’t feel safe next to someone, that’s probably a sign to run before it’s too late. Take care and keep your standards high! We all deserve the best! ❤🙏💯🌹

Thanks so much for sharing. You are definitely not alone. Men are a huge part of this problem and targeted very very often. A lot of the same signs and definitely the same rule: meet her or delete her!
The compliments thing: my immediate red flag. I don't respond to strangers' calling me 'baby', 'beautiful', etc ~ that's for established familiarity. Also the out of the country deal! I often wonder if these people, who are supposedly trying to tailor their profiles for a specific type, even *read* my blurb, which explicitly refuses non-locals.... good thing I have no money.
This is a great summary. Sadly, too many people are still unaware of this type of scam, and only start researching this topic AFTER they've lost their money - and their heart - to a professional criminal.
Sound advice all round. The most important thing is for people to ask for a phone/video call as soon as possible, and cut off contact if they refuse. Many people, once they've been messaging for a while, become invested in the illusion that the scammer is genuine. Then they're so caught up in it all that they refuse to believe they're being conned, even when confronted with overwhelming evidence.
I believe I'm being scammed right now sadly. The girl I talk to sends me nude pics and videos but doesnt have proof of license no car says cant call phone doesnt work. No mailbox but send me a address in seattle. Asks.for money. No video chat. But she send me a pic one time that has a peice of paper says I love you mr.brown. i dont believe Its photo edited but all the other signs feel it's a scam.
Maybe perhaps Im in the same situation right now and I do hope so Im totally wrong and just overthinking.. But what else we can do, lets not be embarrased of the experience itself but to accept it as a lesson. Just don't give any amount of money to anyone specially on Dapps etc.
I have unintentionally sent new connections away, due to my severe anxiety surrounding phone and video calls. (This is what I think happened, anyway.) People’s “rules” regarding “top red flags for catfishers and scammers” makes my already debilitating anxiety, worse. I wish more people would talk about this, because there are those of us on the fringe who are genuine, but also terrified of speaking to new people on the phone/via video call. My besties all understand my fear, and we do chat on phone/video when possible. Us worried folks out here deserve love too!! 😢❤
So I’m imagining you are not meeting these people in person and exchanging numbers. So you are meeting them online and then unable to switch to communication off the apps or dating sites?
@@CoffeewithCareyYes, exactly that. 😢 Like, it always successfully advances to the stage of exchanging phone numbers, but we just continue texting until it ends with me being ghosted ‘cause I took too long to communicate any other way. I’m just fearful, ‘cause some guys out there can be really strange. I’m always afraid they will get weird on the phone, or on video call. I also just prefer to sus people out for a bit, to get an idea if advancing to a phone call, video call, or in-person meeting even seems like a good idea. A week just feels way too fast for me, because I think, “What if they are a maniac?” I realize when I hold off like this, that I’m only giving potential dates the same exact thoughts about me 😂 It’s difficult, damned if you do damned if you don’t, but I’m trying to work through it. I appreciate your response ❤ I guess online dating just isn’t for me 😢

Plus, my rule is you are meeting these people within a week so you’re already appearing to only be looking for a pen pal. A couple things I've noticed is they use two first names, like Johnathan David or Timothy Scott. They have very "GQ" looking photos. They'll claim to be from, say, the Netherlands, are currently living in America, but working overseas. It's really easy to pick them out because they use this routine so much.

Certain types of social media perhaps. The lesson here may be to choose a more positive, accurate and helpful curation of the social media you ingest. There are no low value and high value human beings first of all. We all have equal value so that conversation/theory alone that is found in corners on the Internet is not helping anybody.

Thank you! I have had everyone of these experiences at one point or another - such good information that all people on dating sites need to hear. I was just talking to someone but the excuses started on why he can't meet face to face - and used COVID as the reason. Like who's going to argue with that one? But we had been talking on phone for 3 days and not once did he sound sick (coughing, raspy voice) - then after 7 days, he claimed to test again and it was still showing positive (with no symptoms). He gets demanding for wanting "full body photos" - um, NOT, not in this lifetime!
@Dancing Daisies That's a good one! Ask them for money, see how fast they scatter! I worked with a guy who would scam women and saw his system. He used the same flowerily letter for all the girls and he would just change the eye color in the letter based on her photo she posted. He would then take a bunch of pictures of her with a nice camera, like he was a photographer. now I am thinking that he probably got her in compromising photos and maybe blackmailed? But I don't work with him anymore, but I wouldn;t be surprised if he was blackmailing

They are always abroad, widowers or they were cheated on by their wives (so you will feel bad for them and they get your simpathy), pour a lot of compliments and love declarations in a too short time after the first talking, usually parents already deceased and no kids or if one of them is living in another country, they have a military career, they are engineer or a doctor. They have large texts creating a bio and make you questions that make you feel like you are in a job interview. To me, the bottom line is: somebody I only know on line and never met, will never mean more to me than an acquaintance, tops. Not even a friend I would call them, let alone boyfriend. In order to progress in the relationship I need to meet in person. Thank you for the important content, we need to help each other.

Dating apps! 🤣 Don’t let your guard down and do your due diligence to confirm that people are who they say they are. Google is your friend and gullibility/wishful thinking must be avoided. 🤷🏻♀️
@@CoffeewithCarey I love you. I’m curious for when people won’t feel sorry for them they don’t need help they know it’s wrong to use people and To not ask for personal information that is a crime and they will go to jail for that sooner or later right?
It’s not always a person. It’s a whole group of people! And it’s hard to catch them. So we have to protect ourselves. Do not talk to anybody who doesn’t live nearby and won’t meet you within a week.
And most of them can’t take a hint, once you tell them you don’t want to hear from them anymore, it’s like they ignore it or act like you’re having a bad day. Then they try and ask “for help to get gas in my car?” I blocked one once on WhatsApp and she actually texted my phone number. No idea how she got it.
If you had worked to install a money machine in your backyard, it might be awfully hard to stop visiting it just because your patio slider was sticking. .😉
I was talking about how these days, lots of people try to anthropomorphize their pets. After a certain point, I don't think it's good for mental health. I do want someone to come home to in the evening and talk to. Someone that I can depend on. But with all the scams, ugly men, and married men... it looks like the only option I have are two cats.
A lot of people with partners and whole families in the home treat their pets like full family members, so not sure it’s part of the same loneliness problem. 🤷🏻♀️ Ps. Scams are so easy to avoid. You’ll be fine. 👍
About getting scammed, it can happen to anyone. The sooner you realize that, the better you can defend yourself. It's not a question of being stupid or naive. These people are professional manipulators and they will lure you in.
Again this is about you. Lots of people do loan money to their family and friends. I think it’s great that you are sharing your opinions but I think you need to realize that everybody is not exactly like you.. This is why sweeping generalizations (assuming everyone is just like us or share our opinions) are not as helpful or well received, as just sharing your thoughts as your own opinion.
My scammer was so good at it. We fought more than anything but I really fell for him. I had never heard of catfishing or dating scams before it was too late. We don't look it up if we don't know it exists.
Thank you for interesting information. I would like to broaden a bit your perspective and talk about my country. In Poland (Central or Eastern Europe) there a lot of poor or disabled people who are searching for friends or love, therefore we share sometimes our hardships from the begining of the conversation to help each other in the time of the pandemic and energy crisis in Europe. It is not always a red flag in my culture. This attitude towards the success vary according to the culture. Being a good partner does not always go along with being rich or financially stable in Poland. Two people with small money can support each other and survive together. Moreover, looking for penpals should not be called as "less dangerous" than scamming for money because penpalling is not dangerous at all. Also, somebody from different country does not have to be necessarily a scammer. I have a penpal from a different continent for years and it works well. To sum up, the most valid point of your video is about not sending money to unknown online strangers.
My point was that if you are looking for someone to date, not have a long distance relationship with, you are going to want to connect with someone you can meet. Working with all of my matchmaking clients there are some who have the ability to fly wherever I need a Match, but many people are looking for someone to have dinner with this weekend and if that person is a plane ride away that’s just not what they are looking for. And of course there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a penpal. But that is typically a friend.

A lot of these techniques the scammers use are the same ones that are employed by psychopaths / sociopaths. Having dated one years ago, I'm more aware of these tactics. I only recently joined tinder, and within a few days I had already encountered three different crypto scammers. Something just didn't feel right. The way they answered questions. The way the would slide mentions of crypto into conversations. Moving the conversation to another chat app too fast. But, I trust my instincts, and if it doesn't feel right, something is up. I called one of them on his obvious scam too, and he freaked out! lol!!! Started insulting me, etc. Whatever. Block, delete, moved on. :)

@@dyamondcrawford6439 Sweetheart, you never met your crush in person, not even the one scamming you Did you speak with the scammer on a video call or a phone call? Typing on a keyboard is just as much of a relationship as checking your bank balance online.
Great advice, thank you!
Also, before you even go on a date, always run a background check. You’d be surprised how many narcissists/ con artists have criminal history. I wish I knew this years ago…
And BEWARE of picture tell-tell signs. If someone has a single picture of himself staring in the mirror, you’re likely dealing with a narcissist.
I dated someone whose profile had one (bathroom) picture and he also lied about where he lived- over an HOUR away! He lied about so many things, it took me awhile to unravel it…
Never trust anybody until they EARN your trust.
If you don’t feel safe next to someone, that’s probably a sign to run before it’s too late.
Take care and keep your standards high! We all deserve the best! ❤🙏💯🌹
Trust is earned, yes!
I know this is geared towards women but I am a guy and was sucked in.Girl isn't a Nigerian scammer but has been on Facebook for years. She indicated she had kids and needed money for daily needs,Turns out her kids didn't even live with her and every conversation was how broke she is.After 3grand I realized she had other men she was working as well.
Sad as I didn't mind assisting with the kids and pissed finding out she had no custody of her kids.Girl was partying nightly.
Took some months to get over it. I am now thankfully
Thanks so much for sharing. You are definitely not alone. Men are a huge part of this problem and targeted very very often. A lot of the same signs and definitely the same rule: meet her or delete her!
That’s good you don’t deserve that kind of girl allcc bc she wants you is money , remember when is involved that’s not love that’s scam

You’re a nice guy-don’t let anyone play on your good nature
Cuánto lo siento. Todos estamos expuestos. Es el mal que está presente en la humanidad ,Satanás es el Padre de la mentira.
Well then let’s keep talking about it. 🤷🏻♀️
It's happened to me twice and I'm in my early 40's. I was smart enough to know something was wrong.
Nice summary.
C'est ainsi.. il faut fermer ces scammers, on ne connait pas une personne aux réseaux. Il faut les mettre en prison. Tous!!!,
I believe I'm being scammed right now sadly.
Follow your gut. For me, the nudes would have been the first warning sign.
I appreciate your response ❤ I guess online dating just isn’t for me 😢
@@branypoo you have to do what makes you comfortable, but I recommend clients get off the apps immediately. You can really only learn about this person through a phone call and video chat. Lol.
You can always block the phone number and we always meet people in a public place and don’t leave with them.
Plus, my rule is you are meeting these people within a week so you’re already appearing to only be looking for a pen pal. Perhaps you should try making plans after a few back and forth text messages to meet for that beverage or walk. And you can skip the phone or video call!
Big and virtual hugs. We've got this. ❤❤❤
These topics should be maximized in media for information drive and awareness for all people in general. After all, we all deserve genuine Love ❤

A couple things I've noticed is they use two first names, like Johnathan David or Timothy Scott. They have very "GQ" looking photos. They'll claim to be from, say, the Netherlands, are currently living in America, but working overseas. It's really easy to pick them out because they use this routine so much.
As soon as someone says they are working overseas cut off all contact.
Yes, a lot of these idiots get confused between what is supposed to be the first name and what is supposed to be the second name. And then the bad English will follow. Oh, and the love declaration... 💘
True! Happened to me too. Handsome man from Tender lives in USA but from NorWay. Working on oil rig as an independent contractor. Needs $ to fix equipment. Asked me to purchase “Vanilla Visa” cards. He put $ into my account and as soon as bought the Visa’s, money was gone from my account and Visa’s were at .00🤦♀️
5 Visa’s @ $500 each. I have to pay since I purchased them even though I confirmed $ in my account with CapitalOne before buying the cards😡
@@johnballard6725 absolutely. First thing I ask is if they are located in the city listed. If they say yes, but working in Canada, on an oil rig, etc. - bye bye! I don't even respond back.

Certain types of social media perhaps. The lesson here may be to choose a more positive, accurate and helpful curation of the social media you ingest.
There are no low value and high value human beings first of all. We all have equal value so that conversation/theory alone that is found in corners on the Internet is not helping anybody.
Same can be said for women also

Exactly trust your gut. Nobody is worth ignoring it
@Dancing Daisies That's a good one!
Im glad I am brave and not afraid to report the scammer.

I'm not sure the "pen pal" is always so bad or a waste of time. Sometimes this can turn into meeting someone nice. You should be friends before you're anything else. Having said that, Carey's other advice is spot-on. Particularly the money, urgent help or asking for revealing photos. Instant red flags and immediate block.
no, I don’t think you should be “friends before anything else”. Not if unless you’re looking to be in the friend zone forever.
The dating sites do NOT care about your settings, I get men from out of state. Meet people through friends.
True. No matter how much filters you apply, 80% of responses are of those guys you wish NOT to meet! Age, geographics, religion etc is kind of important. Now you get messages from guys your son's age in South Asia. Really?!

Good tips. Especially that you shouldn't waste your time with people who are too far away to meet, if you want a serious relationship.
And you don't want someone with all sorts of money problems, even if they actually are genuine.
They are most likely not.
@@CoffeewithCarey Oh believe me, I have met and had relationships with some real men who couldn't or wouldn't manage their money.

Always a reason why they couldn't pay back any loans.
Would take the rent money and spend it on some luxury for themselves etc etc.

About getting scammed, it can happen to anyone. The sooner you realize that, the better you can defend yourself. It's not a question of being stupid or naive. These people are professional manipulators and they will lure you in.
Not if you follow the one rule.
@@CoffeewithCarey I agree victim blaming is evil if you ask me.
Only stupid people will fall for a scam 😅 No brain cells ,that is the problem. 😂

I’m sorry that happened to you. You are not alone. 😞 And that’s why I keep talking about it!
@@CoffeewithCarey thank you very much for your response ❤️
A little too late for me, unfortunately! The feelings of guilt and shame are very intense!
Ugh. I’m sorry. Hopefully you’ll be able to turn those feelings into something positive by helping other people avoid the same situation.
Thank you so much! It will take time for me to come back to my senses! Its still very raw, I just found out! I would gladly help spread awareness at some point!
Good information
Really appreciate you putting this out there
🤎

I caught a scammer red handed and I roasted the crap out of them
Check out this week’s new episode!
If caught several of them .i new they were trying to scam me.so I let them think I was crazy about them .Then when they ask for money I lowered the boom on them .Boy did they get mad .one told me I never expected that out of you.i said i know you though you had me tied around you little fingers .How’s it feel .He called me a bitch. I just laughter .
I guess if you have you have time for that. 🤷🏻♀️
I play along for a while... and then it's roasting time! I have a whole collection of angry "African gods" faces! I think those were supposed to scare me. Not sure?!
@@barniaburton1205 Send them my way when you're done with them. I'll roast them all over again!
Thank you for sharing.
🙏
Thank you for your advice
Well if you have watched my scammer episodes it will not take you long to recognize That someone is not interested in hearing about you Or trying to make plans with you immediately.
A matchmaker!
I immediately think of the song in Fiddler On The Roof.

@@CoffeewithCarey you are terrific. I saw the Norman Jewison directed film the summer between seventh and eighth graders - it always stayed with me. So much human truth. And the music was dynamite.
It's a crisis. Do not be on any social platforms.....better stay alone
Or... just be aware and be smart about it. Most of us date just fine using apps and websites and most marriages these days are between people meeting online. It’s not very complicated. In fact two rules for yourself and no worries at all. 💖👍
Thank you so much for this great video information really appreciate it
Thank you back at you, Maureen!
I experienced it. Very heartbreaking n loose lots of money .
I’m sorry to hear that.
Thank you so much for telling us about the Google image search! I used it and confirmed my suspicion that the girl I was texting was a scammer! Thank you thank you thank you
So happy to have been helpful, Ed.
Very nice explanation 👍
What if they offer to help you with bills sending you money. And want you to leave and go to another state and buy you a home.
Have you met him in person?
