  • Why do people choose to quit the Amish? Or to not be baptized to begin with? Here are five of the most common reasons people become ex-Amish (plus one bonus reason).
My name is Erik Wesner and I'm not Amish. Back in 2004, I met the Amish while selling books. Since then, I've visited 5,000+ Amish homes & dozens of Amish communities. My book on Amish business, Success Made Simple: An Inside Look at Why Amish Businesses Thrive, was published in 2010. I run the Amish America website: amishamerica.com/

One rare reason why a few leave their Amish communities is because the communities died out from old age and the remaining members simply dispersed to other communities or went out into the English world on their own like me. Our Community was mostly members born in the early 1900's to the 1920's and there were a couple of members that were born in the late 1800's that were descendants of Shakers that never had children. When my Mother passed away when i was 12 my Father who was of "English" background raised me in the Southern Baptist church and i was the last member of my Amish Community. With me living most of my life now without a Amish support network i did just fine. I love the Lord Jesus intensely and am Baptised and saved and i think that is all that matters in the end.

Anybody collecting money for ministering or saying that same-sex marriage is a sin when it is not now part of the Great Tribulation that started September 1st. They will be blacked out from the holy Spirit and experience such mental torment that it will bring them to repentance or they will wait too late and die with the wicked.
The answer to end covid is for all the thieving ministers to return the money (Malachi 3:8 . . . Malachi 2 proves it's prophetic instruction for the thieving ministers to repent.)
      Mathew 19:12
🏳️‍🌈 Eunuchs that are born that way are transgender.
🏳️‍🌈 Eunuchs made that way by others were abused.
🏳️‍🌈 Those that choose to live like Eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven are bisexual people that choose partners of the same sex but opposite in gender.
I am Elijah of Malachi 4:5-6. Acts 3:22-23 says it will come to pass that anyone that fails to listen to me will be UTTERLY destroyed from among the people.
Male or female is determined by gender, located in the brain. I am the forerunner to the return of Jesus, who was transgender and will return as a woman. Most of the famous prophets from the Bible were transgender as well, including David and Joseph.
Anyone saying ssm is a sin wont be here much longer. God prefers it 😊🏳️‍🌈.
Lev, Corinth, and Tim is referring to pedophilia. Billy the money-hungry lying wolf Graham translated it wrong. Romans is NOT referring to Eunuchs where one partner is transgender. And God did it on purpose because they were trying to procreate during orgies.
And in Deuteronomy it clearly states no one was castrated back then. That doesnt fit anyhow. No one is born making the decision to be celibate, nor born castrated. But that's what God wanted the lying preachers to think so they wouldnt take it out of the bible.
Politicians, judges, police, and all rich people are also evil and will be part of the Great Tribulation until they make a public apology or they will wait too late and die with the wicked. STAY OUT OF THE FAKE CHURCHES IF YOU WANT TO LIVE..

I think she said it was late 70's or early 80's. I'm wondering if by chance it's the same community you're from. Thanks for the video and your perspectives, Eric. Regarding higher education, here, in the Lancaster County area, if you were to search for job listings on one of the online websites, you will find an inordinate number of listings that state “No high school diploma required”. I know this isn’t true for most other areas, so it must be due to the high population of Amish here. Another thing you will see quite often is “Older applicants are encouraged to apply”. The ad will almost always say “encouraged” and not something like “welcomed”, or “may” - businesses around here know that the older Amish work just as hard, if not harder than most of the younger English, plus, their work ethic is second to none.
Off topic, but were those pictures you posted in the wood shop at C. Fisher’s place?

Great example Bruce. I think you are right, Amish labor is well-regarded for the work ethic, even quite young workers. Related to that I noticed when paging through the Busy Beaver this summer how many "Help Wanted" ads there were. I guess reflecting the labor market which I assume hasn't changed too much since. So those photos were actually from a community in Tennessee - they're by Michael Pilkinton who runs an FB page on the Ethridge Amish (the photos are from another settlement though which allows more tech).

Amish and Mennonite are both Anabaptists who along with Calvinists came out of the reformation movement around the same time as the Lutherans. When I grew up in Ft. Wayne, Indiana (Allen County), there were a lot of ex-Amish families who became members and attendees of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod - who have a huge presence in the area. The Missouri Synod is a more traditional segment of Lutherans that appeals to many German-speaking descendants and those who want a more traditional Christian church that is still not Catholic.

Good questions - so no they don't intend that and it's not the case - not even with the most conservative Amish. I think that's an external idea of the Amish placed on them - although it's true they traditionally have tried to keep "the world" at arm's length. But that is less and less the case today. Doctors, business partners, non-Amish customers, veterinarians, drivers, and so on. There is a pretty nice interview with an Amishman in Illinois that just came out where he touches on it: amishamerica.com/on-camera-interview-amishman-joseph-yoder-part-2/ The recent video on this channel "Are the Amish Green?" addresses it some as well.

PCUSA, UMC, UCC, Episcopalians are some of these. Many of them also hold liberal attitudes toward abortion. Romans 1, I Cor 6, and 2 Tim 1 are clear on homosexuality It's not even natural..a male body was not made to interface with another male body. Same with women. It isn't rocket science. The human body, created by God, defines the parameters of our sexuality. Anything else is simply chaos and disorder.

I have been told that the most popular religion on the planet is non-practicing Catholics. I think it would be a much better Planet if it were non-practicing Amish. My family was historically mennonite. Back before there was a difference between them and the amish, at least not that much of a difference. One of my relatives sold off pretty much all of the land for vacations and diamonds. At least the Amish don't believe in giving their descendants as little as they possibly can. I suppose it's like that tradition I grew up with in the 1980s, on your 18th birthday you are kicked out of the house. But look at the people from india, on their 18th birthday they are typically handed a mini mart or a gas station and wished the absolute best of luck with the best of what their parents could give them. I know that the Amish community is somewhere in the middle of all of that. If you pick the middle ground, everyone loves you. Pick the edges and everyone hates you. I am personally trying to reinvent the Amish in a better way. Mostly because I had no idea they existed for most of my life. As far as the pull from Love, I would do quite a bit for that. But I suppose I haven't met the right person yet. I even tried to join the mormons, apparently there is no website click link thing or whatever to do that. The Jehovah Witnesses promised me a wife if I joined them. That doesn't sound like something that should be promised. What match would they have found me? Anyway, I have yet to see a religion that is decently balanced. And I haven't met anyone that wants to start that religion with me.

Generally speaking, a religion is a set of beliefs you use to guide your life toward what you understand as your better self, and ultimately achieve a transcendent goal: Heaven, eternal life, unity with the Universe, Nirvana, etc. It isn't the same as earning a livelihood, joining the company offering the best job conditions or living in a country/culture where you feel more yourself than in your original one. Following any religion is demanding; you are right that non-practitioner Catholics are more numerous than practitioner ones, same as secular Jewish, or others.
From this far away, it looks like you are looking for a convenient spot, mostly from a comfort and economic point of view, instead of the way to God, or any Absolute. You seem not having any interest on the actual beliefs of any religion, but what it offers to you in practical terms. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs are vastly different, didn't you notice that?
I highly recommend you to stop trying to create a religion at your image and convenience, that seems too much as if you were trying to create a cult of people at your service. If you care about the future of your soul (if you believe you have a soul with a future), please take a look at the Bible, Matthew's Gospel, chapter 25. That's a Christian point of view, but those rules of life to achieve salvation also mean you'll become a great human being and an asset to any community. As long as you seek to serve others instead of how others can serve you, God (if you believe there is one) will find you no matter which tag you put on yourself. If you really don't care about supreme beings, life after death, commandments, sexual restrictions, sins, prayer, rituals, charity, reading sacred scriptures, dressing or eating according to rules, or anything that living a religion entrails, don't waste your time in this search. All religions, if followed sincerely, demand more than what they give. Just be non-religious, and a good person.

Hmm yeah I’ve learned about this recently from the anthroposophical movement, it really resonated with me. Lucifer and the others are here by design too further our evolution, basically like a negative catalyst. If you can view things from this perspective it changes everything and is very unifying and empowering. From my perspective this understanding is the key to embodying the Christ consciousness and truly behaving as a Christian, we’re all apart of gods perfect plan even the ones who have strayed and succumbed to different forces. It’s their path and that’s the way it should be. Hatred is certainly not going to help them see the light and the ones who hate are just as blind as the ones who falter. Thanks for speaking up!
STAY OUT OF THE FAKE CHURCHES IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.

Sure thing, overall I appreciate Amish people for a lot of reasons and have friends among them, etc. And I do find certain aspects of their lives inspiring (generally close community & family, mutual aid, thoughtfulness about technology, religious faith). But I don't view them as perfect people of course because I've seen too many examples where they're not. Ultimately they're people too.
And thanks for the suggestion but it's been about 18 years and I'm pretty far from getting bored! I would bet there are some good channels on Judaism out there though
