Haha. I had left my first comment to play a normal Gengar deck on yesterday's vid. When I saw the vid today was regular Gengar today- I was a bit giddy.
They did my boy so dirty after giving him the coolest art on his EX card. Three psychic energy to do 100 damage makes Gengar EX so damn rigid and underwhelming. If we had a basic or stage 1 Pokémon with abilities similar to Greninja or Butterfree, he could at least be a good control card.
Problem is 95% of ppl try to make double gengar EX work, when 1-2 normal Gengar is just way more consistent + only 1 EX as an option. That’s the strength of gengar Ex, that it can be a normal gengar too and surprise the opponent.
There's an interesting deck I came up with as I could not, for the life of me, build any of your shared decks unfortunately. I call it the "Energy Discard Deck" and consists of running mawile and spearow (both who have a condition of removing energy, either random or of the active pokemon), with a combination of a high attack basic pokemon, or no longer than stage 1, though, heavily recommend the basic over the latter. I know it heavily depends on luck for a 50/50 on whether one energy will be removed, but due to most of the meta consisting of reaching high value attacks or moves that remove energy at the cost of high attack, I thought it would be interesting to try it out. Plus, it helps if they're trying to retreat their pokemon. First time through and won against an Articuno EX deck! Hopefully anyone checks it out or does a more efficient/consistent variation: Mawile - 2 Spearow - 2 Fearow - 2 Lickitung - 2 Pokeball - 2 X Speed - 2 Geovanni - 2 Sabrina - 2 Prof. Oak - 2 Red Card - 1 Potion - 1 Edit: The biggest weakness is the lack of high HP Pokemon. Lickitung isn't exactly bad but building him up takes time, time that the opponent can use to lower him down to the point you can only use him once. If anyone has a suggestion for a strong basic or stage 1 that can work, please be sure to chime in!
@@furymonger5395 It was his favorite faction. I am pretty sad they changed the game so much from the three row system. I actually played on PlayStation cross play which is also not possible anymore, so I stopped playing altogether after they changed the game so much.
It's so funny how much Gengar ex doesn't make any difference triple the energy for double the damage and the exact same effect because, why wouldn't you attack on your turn?
The difference is two-shotting things when you manage to attack. As average damage as it is, it's a bruteforce sacrificial-type card you just keep on active spot and trade because you have supporters and the enemy doesn't.
would love to see you design around Dodrio, I feel like the 0 retreat is good but I dont know what it would be useful in, if at all. THANKS! Also we collabed once (on a different channel than the one im logged into now) on Duelyst back in the day, found you again due to Pocket, glad to see you made it!! Love the content broski.
Thanks to Mogwai, whenever my wife asks me what we should eat for dinner, I now know how to say "you decide. My life is so much better now. Ty, Mogwai!
Omg how exciting seeing you run a similar deck I've been running so far! I was going to run it with Gengar EX but I found it so much better with basic Gengar so I can beef up mewtwo EX in the back while also shutting down their supporter cards. So good
Been running a water/electric deck since the beginning for dragonite with jolteon/vaporeon. Swept entire teams with jolteon alone and ranged attacks with zebstrika. Haven't seen anything like it yet so it catches people off guard lol
Gengar ex doesn't suck at all. He's an awesome mid-late game sweeper with good damage, an amazing ability, and insane bulk. With 170 HP, the only things in the game that can 1-shot him are basically Charizard ex or a couple Pokémon (like Zapdos) with INSANELY lucky coin flips. I've been running a x2 Gengar ex/x2 Mewtwo ex deck and absolutely killing it. Drop Mewtwo ex and slap two energy on him, then slap their mon, Sabrina, slap their other mon, repeat, while you build up Gengar ex, then bring in Gengar ex and sweep. You'll be pretty much one-shotting most of what Mewtwo ex hit prior, while also shutting down any potential game-winning Sabrinas, Mistys, Giovannis, etc. that the opponent might have, and with that 170 HP (or 210 if you stash a couple Potions) you can pretty much tank anything they have left until you finish them off.
Gengar is like Slayer from Guilty Gear... _Sometimes, you have to play supportive roles_ *BUT WHAT MATTERS IS THAT YOUR EYES SHINE~...* _In the moment_
Kangaskhan is usually better. There are not many good tanks in the game and Tauros is worse because it needs 2 energy to work. But since it requires less energy cost too, it is viable in a few decks that requires a little more reliable damage and doesn't waste many energy.
Hey mogwai i have seen a lot of your decks with niche and cheap cards. I started to play a few days ago and i Wonder if you could make an eelektross deck, i have been trying to make it work but i dont get much result. Hope you can do it and thx for your videos and ideas ❤
Frosmoth is a weird one cause the approach is similar to Greninja Vileplume, and there is the Nite Fross deck, but I think that frossmoth could have some useful non-misty deck
New promo haunter has the chance to end the game early before the opponent csn even play their evolutions. Like it csn oneshot staryu and there goes your starmie and your 1 energy.
after trying out gengar ex for 15 games, Gengars HP pool is really nice, it tanks anything that isnt a slow fire deck with a potion at least 2 times, while disabeling supporter cards, which is kind of a big deal, my only problem is his energy cost, either let it be 2 with 80-90 damage or give us a haunter with a good two energy attack. My best deck(went 7-2, with 5 of those being against mewtwo, of which I won 4) was unironicly with two Zubat and two Golbat as counter for mewtwo, which it usually handled alone most of the time. Gardevoir feels really excessive for a pokemon that doesnt discard energy on attack and is kinda unreliable. With the current Haunter I believe normal Gengar is the way to go, just keeping gengar as a tanky cheap disrupter.
Replacing Tauros with Mewtwo ex is a potential option, giving more late game potential. But regular Gengar is just a worse version of Kabutops, whereas the ex is a worse version of Machamp
i have a deck suggestion that you can do.. i don't know if it good or not bz so far I used and it has 50% on both loss and win.. you should try arbok plus wigglytuff ex deck.. seems like it an ass of a buildup but it actually pretty fun to use deck
I run double ex Gangar, and double Galbat! Galbat takes any energy so it counters mew, and you forgot to mention Ex Gangar had 170HP! So the only one shot it will take is from Ex charizard. All that to say I went on a 10 game win streak with that deck! Seriously the only way to run EX Gangar!
@MegaMogwai I need you bro to test a deck for me, I think I cooked, but haven't got the cards yet! Grass Energy Deck - 2 sets of Golem - 2 sets of Exeggutor (non Ex I think) - 2 BROCK - 2 Prof - 2 Pokeball - 2 Xspeed - 1 Erika - 1 Sabrina I guess that's it. Please test it to me, no one I know has 2 sets of Golem yet 😢 Perhaps there's some other pokemon that goes harder with Golem Brock, if you can come up with something!

Love you Mog but ain't no way I'm going to open a fuck ton of packs to make the same decks. This is not a game I think I can enjoy watching because of that.
I made a deck with ex and clefable solid enough and flexible since clefable do descent dmg descent hp and 1 cost retreat, plus it has no weakness on darkness Pokémon. The normal gengar decks seems so nice too unlikely i cant play it yet cause gengar normal is one one the 2 pokemon missing rofl
What are you talking about my dude 100 damage is a lot of damage you can kill most non EX in one shot also I've seen a lot of EX's get required 4 energy to attack this is only three and it does 100 damage while it's no Mewtwo that's pretty good my dude lol 😂

That first deck, who they run 2 Moltres, a full Charizard line, Eve and Flareon, Growlith and Arcanine and still have space for Taurus and trainers!
Yeah there’s a bit too much going on in that deck? Yet they drew all of it.
This deck is one of the few creative no ex decks that I can actually see becoming at least B+ tier. good job, this deck is fun to play.

You could play it with enough healing or pidgeot for disrupting I think. Not having good pivot means you have to win the card race every time though.
that one guy in chat saying that he's gonna end himself will haunt me tonight

the deck is as much a jynx deck as it is a gengar deck, its not very piece dependent like other decks

3 colors Eevee with the only basic Pokemon being Eevee (that way she will be drawn for sure at the opening hand)

Very good deck actually, realizing that tauros would work better than kangaskan or farfecht is key

Mewtwo EX & Pikachu EX just totally destroy this deck with early pressure.
Same with Starmie EX, Charizard EX you just got lucky in the video.
Hey Mogwai, I just noticed; do you have a biting fixation?
Wouldn't regular Mewtwo be better than Tauros? 120hp same retreat cost, plus it's on theme for corner cases
