My apologies for this long text. My view is that the relationship between France and Africa, also known as Françafrique, has been an unhealthy one, with two distinct aspects to consider: 1- The External Relationship between France and Africa: In Africa, the relationship between France and its former colonies has been complex. Although promises of economic prosperity through democracy were made, Francophone African countries have not seen significant progress compared to Anglophone African countries. The Françafrique system perpetuates imperialist monetary policies, limiting domestic economies and undermining democracy. The CFA franc, designed by France, has tied these countries to French control, hindering their economic development. When Guinea attempted to issue its own national currency in 1960, France sabotaged its efforts to destabilize the country, sending a clear message to other nations about the consequences of seeking independence. France has historically chosen leaders for these countries, ensuring their loyalty to Paris. This dependence stifles flexible monetary policies needed for industrial development and job creation, leading to high unemployment rates in sub-Saharan Africa. The French government maintains a colonial mindset, seeking to expand the CFA franc zone and maintain military bases in several countries, ostensibly for fighting terrorism but also to protect more French interests rather than Africa interests. For example: In Côte d'Ivoire, where France has maintained a military presence since independence, the military bases have not only been used for fighting terrorism but have also been involved in protecting French economic interests. During the Ivorian Civil War in 2002, French troops were accused of taking sides and intervening to protect French-owned businesses. In Gabon, the French military presence has been a long-standing feature since its independence. French troops have intervened on multiple occasions to support the government and protect French economic interests, such as during the 2016 presidential election when troops were deployed to prevent protests against the re-election of President Ali Bongo, whose family has maintained close ties with France. In Senegal, French military bases have been maintained since independence, with the official reason being to combat terrorism. However, there have been concerns that France's military presence is also geared towards protecting its economic interests in the region, given Senegal's strategic location and its role as a gateway to West Africa. 2- The Internal Relationship between France and Africans within France: Racism towards Africans remains a prevalent issue in France, despite its color-blind stance. Studies indicate a significant percentage of French citizens hold racist views, leading to negative perceptions of minority groups, including Africans and Arabs. Discrimination against Africans, even those pursuing higher education in France, is common, while French nationals in Africa are often treated more favorably. This has resulted in an increase in anti-French sentiment among Africans. Young Africans in France, in particular, have expressed growing frustration with the perceived inequality and discrimination they face. The lack of opportunities, limited access to quality education, and experiences of racial profiling have contributed to a sense of marginalization among these youths. As a result, some young Africans feel disillusioned with French society and believe that the country does not prioritize their interests and development. Moreover, there is a stark contrast in the treatment of French individuals in Africa compared to Africans in France. French nationals often benefit from a certain level of privilege and preferential treatment in African countries. They may encounter fewer barriers in conducting business or obtaining visas, and their presence is sometimes associated with economic opportunities and development projects. On the other hand, Africans visiting or residing in France often face discrimination, hostility, and mistreatment starting at the border and extending to various aspects of daily life. The far-right movement, led by figures like Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour, has gained substantial support in France. Parties like the National Rally, formerly associated with anti-Semitic rhetoric, now focus on anti-Islamic and anti-African sentiments while promoting the principle of Laïcité. This political landscape has further fueled anti-French sentiment among African youths, who feel targeted and excluded by such ideologies. Overall, the relationship between France and Africa, both externally and internally, has been fraught with challenges and complexities, with historical and systemic issues affecting economic, political, and social dynamics between the two. France's military bases in Africa have been perceived by some as serving more to protect French interests rather than African interests, leading to debates and criticisms about the nature of the relationship. The presence of anti-French sentiment among African youths reflects broader social tensions. I believe tthe accumulation of all these issues that has spanned across generations has made the relationship between France and Africa at its llowest point. Honestly, I think it's a little too late given the current dynamics in France and in Africa., basically two opposing dynamics
You have written very eloquently about these two views on the French African relationship. I have not heard about a growing anti French sentiment. I think it is easy to overlook the personal views of the people in central Africa. I mostly look at their Wikipedia pages and hear about them in the news. Just as a comment I thought for the last years that Africa is in a renaissance. Making great gains between European interest in trade and development to stop migration and Chinese dept-trap diplomacy which comes with major infrastructure. Now to your points to the external relationship. I noticed that you wrote multiple times about the military presents and I was wondering if you really see a big problem with it. You say they are against terrorism and for protecting the economic interests of France. Is that not a win win situation? After all they help to train the local military safeguarding their states and France can buy thing from Africa. This should be good for the job market and stability of the region. I think that democracies in the past have probably done horrible things because the voters didn’t care. But today this has reversed. Many voters are much more conscientious and African immigrants are keeping ties to their home country. Today I think I would like to have the French in my neighbourhood as an African.
You said all this and you missed the point, the real question is how the terror come to be? who created ISIS and Al Qaeda? Was the distraction of Libya part of the plan? France can't build anything in Africa, so they use terror as an excuse, These people want to see real investment, the infrastructure they need power, need hospitals, and schools not toilet paper printed and backed by nothing, and only a few people at the top benefit, The question of other countries to the Africans shows us what France and the US build for you? They ask France and the US you've been in Africa for a long time what did you build for those people?
I think that ISIS and Al Qaida are both streams of radcal islam that have been around for hundreds of years. Sometimes they were allies to fight comunist influence. The US just focused on that probably having no idea about these peoples believes... Lybia wanted to trade oil in something other than dollar. That didnt end well for Gaddafi. It is hard to think about the alternative world where the arab league sells oil through their own currency. That might have been a good incentive for them to grow their economies and transition to more open societies. Maybe Islam has been robbed of the opportunity to develop into something that can fit a modern and open society. Devenatly worth thinking about. On the other hand in America sometimes write to have presence throughout the world. They are more self sufficient because they have started to frack and now there is room for Africa to grow into. Back then trying to mess with the currency of such a big democracy was no joke. This is the thing with the pressures back then democracies would have never build anything in countries cursed by recources, because they get the lowest prices from dictators. These societies are unaware of how powerful they are. They are the "few peope at the top", because everything their governments do is to benefit them. Even when the peoples attention changes they cant build states in other countries. Schools and hospitals should be build by the locals.

Pure truth, they have been stealing from Africa for centuries to keep themselves rich and keep Africa down and poor then give aid from the same money stole from Africa as theirs then acting like they are all that.
True, and there is a lot going on here: internet smart phones; China actually helping to build (belt and road initiative) Africa; Russia historically not being imperialists; even, that viral video of man (DR Howard Nicholas) saying the West absolutely needs to keep Africa Poor (that video will never die in Africa imo); African (thru smart phones with internet) realizing it's true size, wealth, and relative virility; climate change and the need for clean growth; focused political leaders ... all these things and many more come together to change a whole continent...it's good to be African
that's right the world would stop without Africa's minerals.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 YOOOOOOOO ✋️
My apologies for this long text.
My view is that the relationship between France and Africa, also known as Françafrique, has been an unhealthy one, with two distinct aspects to consider:
1- The External Relationship between France and Africa:
In Africa, the relationship between France and its former colonies has been complex.
For example:
In Côte d'Ivoire, where France has maintained a military presence since independence, the military bases have not only been used for fighting terrorism but have also been involved in protecting French economic interests.
2- The Internal Relationship between France and Africans within France:
Racism towards Africans remains a prevalent issue in France, despite its color-blind stance.
France can't build anything in Africa, so they use terror as an excuse,
These people want to see real investment, the infrastructure they need power, need hospitals, and schools not toilet paper printed and backed by nothing, and only a few people at the top benefit,
The question of other countries to the Africans shows us what France and the US build for you?

White people leaving in africa hundrets of years ar as africans as black are americans in the west living there hundreds of years. dont be racist fool. myy onest observation is that black and asians are much more racist then whites and that could be proven easily. but i wold also rather listen some intellectuals with god internet from west africa
They already know this but they are blinded by self righteous arrogance. SMDH.
It's over for France in Africa.
"The Pact for the Continuation of Colonisation" is the problem the former colonies of France are facing.
The African younger generations are not satisfied with how their country is being treated Financially , their wealth and resources.
Reset African as if Africa is a toy with a reset button 😂 this western haha they’re funny
They can't hear themselves when they speak. Let them keep talking. We already know these devils 🐷
😂😂😂😂 They bout to get slapped so FKN hard lol 😆 😂 🤣
That's a good one😂
I like the way the host is shutting down this old imperialist man defending the french😂😂😂😂😂😂
you obviously you live in your own imagination and see things in very special way
He's not shutting him down - just trying to make it seem less ridiculous. He should have brought on a counter opinion not 3 people to parrot the same thing.
Dear Al Jazeera, Europeans discussing Africa without a single African. The Arrogance continues.
I'm South African
@@MarisaLourenco-io7ocYou DO NOT represent black native Africa. Please STOP! You may represent a small minority in a country in the continent of Africa which has over 46 plus country. Most African people in the streets on Niger do not relate to you and vise versa.
You knw what we are refering too and no you DO not represent Africa my dear lady. Continue to be a media pupped and an acceptable token but don't insult us.
France is nothing without Africa, that's why there are so scared. I pray that Africa is free from the west.
This is the time Russia to step up, and listen to Africans call for help and not keep quiet, Russia should step in
I don’t agree. Africans must own their fights. I don’t think that their is a need for another country to meddle in this conflict.
It' about time!!!!
How any European former coloniser can reset relations with any African country, without profound embarassing apologies and reparations, is more wishful thinking than realist geopolitics. Time may heal all wounds but can Europe wait centuries while Africa is courted by Asian powers without the colonising legacy ?
It's called geopolitics.. Get over it
@@anshuraj4277 nothing to get over. The colonizers are getting nowhere.

Colonisation was bad
How does that justify coup and Simping for Russia
Heck Russia can't even take care of itself
@@anshuraj4277 Not up to you. Neither you nor the French can change the fact that most Africans do not sanction Russia, do not resent the Russians as they resent the French. Get over it.

What do Russia has to offer any way lol
So much crying over colonialism
Yet supporting Russian Agression
Reset ties? or Reassert Chains?
Calling their African relations partnerships is wild. How do you have a partnership with a thief?
Mana Africa is waking up finally😅😅😅
The people must be armed to confront the beast...remember what they did to haiti
After the slaves rebelled in the colony of plantation Haiti. In 1825, Haiti was forced to pay France $21 Billion To Preserve Its Independence. It has been in perpetual poverty since then.
@@MuantanamoMobile wtf. when france went out of haiti , look what happen there. total chaos and not because of france. im not defending france at all, but your brain so clouded by hate. It is very nice for you to have scapegoat like france. africans have obviously in their blood to just blame others if i would judge just by youtube..
Africa is awakened ❤❤❤❤❤
As african, I feel Africa needs to put the blame on something else. We must fight for freedom. It’s not free
It’s our failure to fight back that creates unbalance.
The antagonism that France is facing today from Francophone Africa stems from the atrocities perpetrated by France in its colonies even before independence. Over the decades, France has refused to allow the colonies to take charge of their national destinies. Today, the younger generation in most of francophone Africa see France as an Power that has been bane of their existence. If France does not engage differently so as to promote a more prosperous, stable and secure Francophone Africa, then I fear France will never be seen as a good or worthy partner for a very very long time as Most africans want France OUT OF AFRICA COMPLETELY.
This interview was bias toward Francophone Africans who have been subjected to unjust neocolonial policies and practices of France.
Why didn't you bring on African analysts who have the real life experiences on the African continent instead of the same more, same more European analysts that are detached from the reality of life experiences leading to these sequence of coup de'tarts in some Francophone African countries? How about the CFA Franc? How about more than 50% of Francophone African countries national reserves or more being held in the Central bank of France? How about how these countries have been unimaginably rich in natural resources but the masses living in abject poverty due to such policies?
Why should it be this way and why can it not change?
I’m South African. I’ve lived my whole life on this continent.
