Remaining opponents: UST, ADU, DLSU
Great comparisons! Love it! I share the same sentiment. It's highly unlikely that we see a performance like this from UP again. If we do, then I am panicking 😬 - Gab
NU played hell of a game. We should give credit to coach jeff to his defense and the break become their friend as they prepared well and they executed very well. The TO of UP didn't help as it took their rhythm out.
Hello Sam Gab and Maui! Game Take aways for NU v UP. This is an Upset no one expected. may halong malas yung laro ng UP that sunday. 26.2% FG shooting, 13.8% 3pt shooting, 36.1% 2pt shooting, and 37% shooting on the charity stripes. UP Simply cant buy a bucket that game. It's weird, and alam ko tapos na Halloween pero ang tamang term sa laro nila eh Na-maligno. although, I think, they just had a bad day and for sure they be bouncing back on their next Game vs DLSU. as for NU, that was a team effort overall. 43.9% FG shooting, 41.2% 3pt shooting, 45% 2pt shooting, and 71.4% shooting on the charity stripes. Yu, Figueroa, Palacielo and Santiago stepped up for the team and maybe their mindset has something to do with it. wala na yung pressure to assert themselves sa F4 kaya nakapaglaro sila to the best of their potential. Imagine how good this team would be had Diassana didn't get injured. baka nasa 3rd Spot sila. Pat Yu is just scorching hot from the rainbow arc. Pogi na, Shooter pa. HAHAHAHAH FEU vs UE: Yes! Tama kayo i was always critical on Royce Alforque and it cant be helped lalo na nung Round 1. But I'm starting to come around Royce in Round 2. He was facilitating better on the offense. not forcing the ball inside the paint, and at last hindi na sya bricks. the occasional dumb plays are forgivable dahil nangyayari naman during early parts of the Game. at this point, Veejay Pre? We already said enough about how good this is right now and how great he will be in the coming years. I just want to point out 2 more players in our team. Una si Konateh for being his stoic demeanor in all games he played lalo na sa laro na to. He just played solid defense on each UE possession and despite all the taunts he got from Momowei, he played with the intention of winning the game. 11 rebs, 3pts, 3 blks. that is commendable despite low scoring output. Also, Cholo Anonuevo has been the missing piece for this FEU team. That guy can play 1 to 5 positions. He gave Abate a hard time scoring. and He was also guarding and playing mind games with momowei in some parts of the game. Overall Happy ako for Cholo kasi we all know this kid can show more when he's healthy. #GatoradeBallers of Sunday Games: Pat Yu, Gelo Santiago, Mo Konateh and the ROTY in my opinion, Veejay Pre! Credits to Sir Pong Ducanes for the stats I mentioned here hahahaha! Thank you!
NU and FEU for defeating Final Four contenders. They are gate crashing the party and they have still a chance to enter the final four. exciting times for the uaap. #Gatoradeballersoftheweek
Exciting times indeed! That race for the 3rd and 4th slots could get messy! Hopefully we get to enjoy the last few weeks off the season before the final four! -Maui
Maybe UP was too focused on their re-match vs DLSU and forgot to respect NU. Thought they could get back in the 2nd half as what they usually do but I like that NU never gave them a chance. It was a humbling experience. Kudos to Coach Jeff's gameplan and adjustments during the game. Maybe the venue had a slight factor due to the unusual outcomes of previous games but I'll not discredit NU's grit to win and Pat Yu's best shooting performance. What's interesting is UP never lost a back to back so winning this Sunday has a higher percentage but then it will be their toughest. If Motor Mike plays again like the game kanina vs FEU na nakakainis na haha dahil he's everywhere (nose for the ball was soooo spot on, steals and blocks), and Josh David (UP killer) shoots his treys, and KQ being KQ, UP has no chance. I think the team who wins the 1st quarter, wins the game tbh.
At the start of the season, I really believed UP had the deepest lineup (and they are), but I also wondered how they will manage the playing time across the entire team. It seemed inevitable that their depth would be tested, especially if an opponent managed to outplay and rattle them. In those moments, you’d expect eager players from the bench to step up (some might be gigil). Unfortunately, in this game against NU, that eagerness led to turnovers, and it cost them. This loss is a true test of character for the team-will they trust each other, stick to the system, and focus on taking it one possession at a time on their coming games??? I’m really curious to see how this shapes the lineup after the season ends.
You made good points. We have the same sentiments. With a roster this deep, the concern is definitely having to manage the minutes and that could affect the level of play
It seems that these top teams tend to relax and become complacent after a blowout game. When DLSU was upset by UE in R1, DLSU also came from a blowout game against Adamson.
The outcome for the NU-UP game was far from what I expected. If UP won, it would be a momentary tie with DLSU at 10-1 prior to the Wed game against FEU. The loss was a massacre that gave me nightnares as a UP fan. It was Murphy's Law that led to UP's loss not to mention an overwhelming numerous travelling calls. On the brighter side, may this worst scenario happen now rather than the semis and finals (still holding on to the thought of a UP-DLSU finals renatch). Maybe UP needed this loss as a wake up call for them to really start strong at the start of the 1st Q. I agree with the comment not to rely on being the comeback team because the 2 losses are perfect examples that UP cramming maroons will not work at times. While the result was not favorable as a fan, i salute NU as they need this win to boost their morale to continue to improve their standing. For UP, i am definite that they are resilient enough and hopefully manifest a convincing comeback on Sunday with their rematch with DLSU. It is the perfect time to redeem themselves but for sure DLSU will be well prepared too. PS: Despite the UE and UP's loss, I immensely enjoyed your animated reactions and witty remarks as always. Keep it up! Hopefully in the upcoming episodes in between game reactions, you will be able to respond to my previous scenario questions along with other personal questions from other subscribers 😊
If I remember La Salle lost to UE 75-71, and that was because they gave UE a hot start. Never compromise on any team, Murphy's Law can happen at any point in time. This upset by NU to UP is a statement and probably exposed the chemistry of the UPMBT. So for all the "habol-nalang-sa-2nd-half" plays, mukhang di na uubra yan especially you guys mentioned this is already in the middle of Round 2 where teams are battling for a Final 4 spot. I was also in shock on the UE vs FEU game and mukhang totoo nga ang binanggit ni Coach Sean na manggugulat sila come Round 2.
Yep, UP and DLSU can't afford to relax with the other teams. The depth and talent advantages are theirs but the other teams can catch them flat-footed any time
Regarding FEU getting the 4th spot, medyo malabo para sa akin dahil sa schedule. They still have UP and La Salle ahead of them. AdU on the other hand, has a better chance of getting that 4th spot. They can force a playoff for number 4 provided that they win their next 3 games (NU, UST, ADMU). And that UE only win one game on their next 3 (they have UST, ADMU, UP). Isa pang chance ng AdU is if UST loses to either UE or NU. The UST vs. AdU match will be a playoff match. Although, this all hinges on AdU winning against NU and ADMU. And we all know how inconsistent they are. 😂 For the UP loss, baka naman nasobrahan lang sa mga Halloween party kaya para silang mga tuod maglaro last Sunday 😂. I expect them to bounce back against DLSU. I'm kinda scared that they will hand my team their 2nd loss. 😅
Yes that makes sense. ADU is actually the dark horse to make the final four for the 2nd season in a row. The schedule is more favorable for them. That game vs UST is probably their biggest game of the season. Re: UP a bit concerning lang because they have to he consistently good if they intend to beat Lasalle. Lasalle has been consistently good except for that UE game where UE shot the lights out. -Maui
since day one, I never bought into the hype that UP was a 'no-brainer' for the championship. This team just seems destined for another bridesmaid finish. They need to respect every opponent instead of relying on dramatic comebacks. NU’s upset today showed that luck eventually runs out, leaving UP to take a humbling loss. Cagulangan couldn’t even show his face during the hymn. Lesson learned: stay grounded and play with heart, not just hype.
Adjusting to the traveling calls mentioned on the previous episode got to UP, I think. First quarter pa lang, majority traveling calls. Hindi na sila naka-kuha ng momentum. Also, parang babad QMB - ‘pag off-game, hindi sila sanay na si Stevens yung big man na nasa loob or yung FSA nila. 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah, a lot of traveling calls nga. But there were also a lot of errant passes and miscommunication. Not to mention the missed FTs UP just shot themselves in the foot
Cheers to another great episode! UP's loss was really surprising and no one was really expecting them to lose especially to NU, who played perfect basketball from start to finish. Kudos to coach Jeff with his game plan. UP needs to start strong and stay consistent if they want to win a championship, they can't start slow. The other game was even more surprising, imo, cause it gives FEU and the other teams to take that 3rd & 4th spot for the F4. This 2nd round ending will be cinematic, let's see who is going to be in the F4. Kudos Boleros! Can't wait for your next episode.
I'll challenge the statement lang that NU played perfect basketball from start to finish. They also had 24 TOs, shot less than 40%, and even had a 2nd quarter stretch where they were scoreless for 6 mins. UP could have taken this game at multiple points but they were just beating themselves - Gab
