I don't go out of my way to listen to Audrey; but she deserves better than she gets from later generations. She was a late thirties, early forties style of female singer. Revered singers like Patsy Montana and the early Kitty Wells sounded very similar. Rose Maddox used the same style, and got away with it even later than Audrey. Yes, Rose was a better singer, but by how much? Finally, Audrey was constantly up against, no pun intended, the usual choice for greatest country singer of all time.
That's what I suspect, too. It's one of Audrey's better recordings. I hate autotune. I think many of those young things could sing if they just underwent training. Then, of course, there are people who are just not made for singing. I'm one of those people. What's so frustrating is all those excuses other people come up when you play for them. "I forgot the lyrics, sing them for me once...now, stop singing, that's awful, you're hurting my ears." So, the next time, you bring some sheets with the lyrics printed on them. In large print, because "I forgot my glasses" is also a popular excuse. Next thing: 70-year-olds attempt to sing in the child soprano voice they used to have when they sang in a church choir...at age 10. With barely any singing practice during all those decades in between. They start to cough and complain that you are playing too loud. Next excuse: "It's not my fault, I can sing, it's just that I have only 70% hearing in one ear." Some cite the fact that they can still play the violin as good as ever as evidence that they are still good singers. But those are two different things. Just because you can reproduce the correct notes on a particular instrument it doesn't mean that you can do the same vocally. To be fair, violin and vocals are similar in technique, for both you have to rely a lot on muscle memory and your own ear. But the main difference is that the strings on a violin are much easier to replace than your vocal chords. And vocal chords deteriorate.
Honestly, Audrey didn't sound that bad.... not as bad as most of today's singers it's Her personality and the way she did hank that makes her horrible.
My take on Audrey is she’s not terrible, but she’s not deserving of being on a Nashville level record. She’s like the coach’s son in sports who plays capably but is keeping a potential star on the bench.
i was resting just fine with my dog in my lap, then the 2nd song started, and my chihuahua got all restless and scratching and howling. Miss Audrey, you're breaking up me and my dog!!
Her voice is good enough for Blue Grass. Also, during this Era of radio, there were a lot of singers equal to her or worse. In today's standards...she'd still be good with a Local bluegrass band if she was not always solo.
Yeah.. she honestly wasnt that bad.. shes on tune fine.. just a little harsh.. possibly would sound easier in a higher pitch for her.. easily trainable and tweakable.. people acted like like she was totally tone deaf.. i was expecting some wild noises..
People acted like she didn't have A very good voice and really had no business singing with her husband or putting him in that situation in the first place. Get it? Hank was A great talent. She wasnt yet she interjected herself by forcing Hanks hand.
It wasn't out of pitch. It was fine esp in this genre. Though I must admit that it was dry and emotionless and a bit nasal (but everyone is talking this way in the recording). Like if you play a whole piano piece soley by staccato. Like if someone is told to sing in front of a gun. But it isn't off by any means and is very fixable.
i appreciate putting miss Audrey out my daughter 14 years old name Audrey always called miss Audrey goes to hank the 3rd concerts now.and she is a very strong presence as her name sake.
She ‘s off key he knew it and even tho he still took up for her.I think he truly loved her. She had to know listening to a tape of herself how bad she was. I love music I wish II could sing but I know I ain’t worth a darn.
Hanks's was nor a studio recording. I was made on the recorder that Hank carried with him. With that said it sounds pretty good for Hank. The later was from the mother's best radio show. I really shows what Hank had to endure with miss Audrey. There is something to be said about a big star letting his no talent wife take the stage. The drifting cowboys is the really big show here to help make up for Audrey
It's obvious that Ms. Audrey never got over that divorce and later, Hank jr. would become estranged from her because she kept pressuring him to do his daddy's work.
Correct. Hank's 'solo' was originally an acetate, probably made as a practice demo for 'The Health and Happiness Hour'. In 1956, it was released, in this form on MGM 12332.
I wonder what they'd think of their grandchildren, Hank III, Holly, Hillary, and Sam? I know Katherine was killed not too long ago, so she's in their presence now.
Hank's part EXCELLENT as usual --- Audrey --- OMG --- Why? Why? Why? Wouldn't any of the sponsors come up to her and threaten a law suit if she sings --- Poor Hank --- What a sad existence it had to be married to that woman wanting to be a star --- Sort of like Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy except Lucy had talent and it was just a show --- I need to take some pain medicine --- that hurt !
Sherry Swartzwelder They're the The Mother's best radio show recordings, there's a compilation of hours of it on spotify. Just search Hank Williams and look under compositions.
When I saw the movie I didn't understand why everybody didn't like her... Now I understand... In the movie Elisabeth Olsen has a good voice...
xela1821046 right... i was so confused cause Elisabeth sounded great in the movie.
Bruh no she didn’t and her fake accent was an insult.
Audrey was terrible. She thought she was as good as her husband. NEVER HAPPENING

without auto tune i'm sure a lot of today's singers would sound worse than Audrey

Hank Williams Sr a awesome singer and song writer and Audrey Williams a great singer.Hank Williams,RIP and Audrey Williams,RIP💐
Honestly, Audrey didn't sound that bad.... not as bad as most of today's singers it's Her personality and the way she did hank that makes her horrible.
She’s not exceptionally good BUT she hits every good note... I don’t understand why you’re all saying she sounds horrible 😅
If that was my wife singing in the kitchen I would kindly tell her to STFU.
She hurts my ears. When I was a kid an I heard her sing I thought that something was wrong with recording 🤔 😅. I'm serious she can't sing at all.
Because she does
She not even that bad 😔 coming outta a 21 year old who loves country from that era
My take on Audrey is she’s not terrible, but she’s not deserving of being on a Nashville level record. She’s like the coach’s son in sports who plays capably but is keeping a potential star on the bench.

My beagle howls on tune to I've got a blue love in my heart .. sorry Audrey .. you lose !!!
I like her voice. Comforting. Like sitting on the porch at sunset. No airs about it, straightforward and honest.
Her voice is good enough for Blue Grass. Also, during this Era of radio, there were a lot of singers equal to her or worse. In today's standards...she'd still be good with a Local bluegrass band if she was not always solo.
wait i like her singing
Mee too
She hurts my ears. Im going to start howlin

i like her singing and i like the song
i appreciate putting miss Audrey out my daughter 14 years old name Audrey always called miss Audrey goes to hank the 3rd concerts now.and she is a very strong presence as her name sake.
Her voice was like Kitty Wells, but she couldn't sing as good. She could probably make it today with pitch correction.
I don’t mind it one bit Raw talent there. Today they use machines to take off the the ruff edges 👍🙏✌️
Sounds pretty standard for that time. Wonder what she would sound like if she sangthe way we consider these days "normal".
She ‘s off key he knew it and even tho he still took up for her.I think he truly loved her. She had to know listening to a tape of herself how bad she was. I love music I wish II could sing but I know I ain’t worth a darn.
people just mad bc she has an authentic voice
authentic like a bag of cats
LOVE YOU HANK
Audrey sounds better than a lot of today’s so called country singers.
2 of the best We ever had. R.I.P. Ms. Audrey/and Hank.
Hanks's was nor a studio recording. I was made on the recorder that Hank carried with him. With that said it sounds pretty good for Hank. The later was from the mother's best radio show. she ain't bad actually if given a different song she might be great
My favourite singer of all time,Hank!!poor Audrey, she can’t sing!!
July 10, 1952 - Hank and Audrey Williams are divorced for the second--and final--time.
Babybluebbw and the very next day Hank recorded “ You win again”
It's obvious that Ms. Audrey never got over that divorce and later, Hank jr. would become estranged from her because she kept pressuring him to do his daddy's work.

Mrs. Williams sounds like a contestant in an amateur singing contest. She sounds flat but not totally sucky.
I wonder what they'd think of their grandchildren, Hank III, Holly, Hillary, and Sam? I know Katherine was killed not too long ago, so she's in their presence now.
She sounds a little like Kitty wells not bad
sweet! A weeping willow!
Cold cold heart
👌

mothers best im sure
Honey WILLEM God love Tina
Pitch is aight but her dynamics are non-existent
Nailed it
Hank's part EXCELLENT as usual --- Audrey --- OMG --- Why? Why? Why? Sadly, Hank jr. became estranged from her when he turned 18.
Honey WILLEM love. PHONE love Woman Christian. Church
Tabs please
I prefer audrey to hank on this song. Personality, that she has.
Shes better than taylor swift
Audrey sounds flat, but i think she would get better with proper voice training.
She was a decent singer . She couldn't match a voice like Karen Carpenters but she did ok.
The Drifting Cowboys band played perfect, Audrey chopped and destroyed Hank’s song. Wow just terrible.
Tons better than Cardi B
Thank God you guys know what's up...on the pale horse song people in the comments actually think she can sing....lmao!
poor Hank!!!! she ruined all his beautiful music
I don't think it's that bad
God she was awful good grief
She's not that bad tho
Oh my. Audrey is tone deaf.
No, she's just not 'musical'. She's doing fine on the notes, per se.
Jeez she was terrible!
Hank can sing beautifully and harmonize. Audrey is one terrible singer, screeches. Without ol’ Hank she would not have recorded one song.
how in the world did you find these old songs by hank i have a lot of cds of him
but never heard this
Sherry Swartzwelder They're the The Mother's best radio show recordings, there's a compilation of hours of it on spotify. Just search Hank Williams and look under compositions.
My dad bought all of these cd's year's ago. I still have a few of them left
