    There is sectional for Kato 83 and it has the ballast built-in. Very expensive but if you want a very reliable easy to put up (Say Christmas), I would go with KATO.

    Something that was overlooked in this vid, & in most vids, is overall height. Not all Code 83 ties are the same height. For example if you attempt to mate Walthers turnouts to Atlas flex track, both Code 83, you will find out that the ties are different heights and the rails do not align... effectively making them incompatible without shims. I’m pretty sure Peco turnouts & Atlas flex (again code 83) are the same overall height and can be used together without needing to add shims all over the place. I have no experience with ME flex or Central Valley turnouts. This is an aspect of track products many people do not pay any attention to.

      I agree. You have to check compatibility if you want to mix and match brands. I prefer staying with one brand.

    I used to use Atlas 100 a lot when I was a kid :) I have fond memories of using that track. I still have a whole bunch of it laying around. That being said, for my new layout I settled on Micro Engineering code 70 for more realism. I also went with the pre-weathered version, because I think it looks much better :) If I end up doing a "yard" underneath my main table, I will use the Atlas 100 for that. No one will ever see it down there, and the extra rail height might help avoid derailments.

      That's great. I should also mention that WalthersTrack now has flex track in Code 83 and Code 100, along with Lionel. MTH has code 83.....guess I have to add those to the video....

      Don't ever throw any track away send it to me or use it in scenes I always used atlas code 100 cause 83 rails are low the old locomotives and some newer locomotives will not run on it more realistic yes but code 100 will run everything old n new

    I have 75 feet of ME code 100 track and 75 feet of cork roadbed to put underneath it. Now to get nickel silver turnouts--what turnouts are compatible with Micro Engineering? Cheers from eastern TN

      ME turnouts or Walthers (formerly Shinohara) turnouts will work with ME flex track.

      You can go to walthers dot com and type in the part numbers above. Use the part numbers for other stores on the web too.

    I respectfully disagree with you that Peco turnouts are the best. Micro Engineering are not only reliable but are also the most detailed of all. They are also set up for DCC without any alterations. Their drawback is that at present they only make a #6 (#5 in their ladder track system).

    • @scotabot7826
      @scotabot7826 2 года назад

      Yes, That is if you can get them at all!!! All sold out everywhere as well as the ladder track system. The company is now up for sale. This is why I'm considering Peco at the moment. I wish the ME stuff was easy to get, but it's not, and who the heck knows about the future???

      Peco also makes an insulated frog turnout that is compatible with DCC. They are hard to find in the USA though. I personally prefer the looks of Shinohara (now Walthers) to ME turnouts but you must isolate the frog to make it work with DCC.
