No team should be taking on Trouts contract. He is not going to be playing for much longer due to the injuries. Youth and time are not on Trout’s side.
He'll be 34 years old next year, injury prone, and maybe 2 or 3 good seasons also will be paid huge money until he is 40 years old. Even if the Angels eat half of his contract, it's too risky for any team.
So, let me remind you of a few things... Cobb... got a contract, didn't play a single game Ray... played what 5 games Snell... did everyone forget that he missed 1/2 the season, HE DOESNT HAVE 100 INNINGS, FOR 30,000,000 DOLLARS. Do you want me to go on cuz I got more... NO!!! FUK NO!!!! OH HELL NO!!!!! The last thing the Giants need is another aging "veteran" on the back side of a STUPID contract that gets paid to ride the bench.
Yes please Giants take Trout!! Phillies Yankees Dodgers someone take this guy off our hands please and don't listen to the fake Angels fans aka Halo Honks!
Lets start with getting rid of Farhan. Getting to competing standing. Working towards a coaching staff that doesn't look like double a and then add some pieces. Trout is fun to see in SL Bees. But a major league Trout in SF would be great if he could be top dude in a full 162.
nope he's a strikeout machine and getting worse and worse every year. his injuries are not all in the field either many of them were from just running bases , so def more injuries to come , stay far away. his peak now is .270 35hr guy but with the caveat of top 3 - 5 in strikeouts year after year and possibly getting injured again running the bases. only if the angels are willing to pay half would it make sense , but even then it's a trade so giants would have to send young talent and that sounds like a bad idea. it would have to be a pure salary dump by the angels where in return they're getting guys like conforto or yaz not a matos or eldridge and they pick up half the salary
Heck NO. No disrespect to how great Trout has been, but he is not that player anymore. He's only played 266 games in the last four years (41%), and it's clear that he can't reliably stay healthy.
No they should not take over this contract. The price is ridiculous.Giants need a superstar in the line up? Like you said how often has he actually been in the line up. Be really really patient and let's hope his son is playing baseball in 18 years. 😂😂😂 Or Giants develop their own stars.
Real shame Trout has had so many injuries. I think JHL could have been that seat-filler for us before he was injured. From what I know of Trout, I suspect he would retire an Angel before being traded, just my conjecture.
At $37 million a year for trout i would take it and play him strictly at DH. Cause you will be paying $25 Million for A year for the next 6 years to Matt Champan who will be 32 years old starting next year. Then sign Willy Adames there you got a good 4-5 hitter combo. Slide Eldridge in the 3 whole with either one backing him up.
Given his injury problems, no. Plus, this is the " one player away from contention " fallacy that too many fans fall for. The Giants need about two more Matt Chapman talent level players before considering Trout or Juan Soto level talent One caveat: will the Angels pay, say, 30 percent of the contract? It might be then feasible
If the Angels went 50/50 with the Giants in twrms of the $$ and they put Trout as a DH only then i dunno, maybe? I think overall there are better ways of spending $37M a season
Trout has a full NTC so he would have to OK any deal, and the Angels haven't shown any desire to trade him. That said, if there's interest in getting a deal done, I wouldn't mind the Giants taking a chance on Trout if the Angels were willing to pay half of of his remaining contract (6yrs/~$213mil currently remaining on his contract as he enters his age 33 season in 2025; he'll be 38 in the last year of his deal). Yes there's risk, but he would still be a bigger upgrade over anyone else the Giants have in the OF even with his injury history as of late. And while yes I would prefer Soto, it feels more unlikely now than it did to start the season that the Giants would sign him. Giants would have to present an Ohtani level offer to Soto for him to even consider them, which would prevent them from re-signing Snell. What also doesn't help is that he and the Yankees have played well this year, he gets more media exposure playing for the Yankees, and their fans would riot if they let him walk. There's always a chance, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
No why pay for a guy who can’t play? He won’t be healthy you’ll pay him too much for zero production. This would be Marvin Bernard 2.0. Whoever thinks this would be a good idea doesn’t understand baseball or how an organization or business work. They don’t need a superstar at all.
The Giants have not had a homerun hitter at home since Barry Bonds. Not saying Mike Trout could pick up the slack but he is older now and constantly injured. They do not make baseball players like they used too. So Giants get him make him the DH. I am 42 years old and can still do a full sprint and play tennis. We all age differently.
I recently saw an article that said Mike Trout said he would be OK being a full-time designated hitter. It might be good for attracting fans to the ballpark at first, but I don’t think it would necessarily turn the team around and lead them to the World Series. For me, the most important thing is winning. If we’re not competing and the novelty of having a superstar wears off it doesn’t do much good. My son-in-law’s family has season tickets to the Angels games for four generations, when it becomes apparent that the angels weren’t gonna compete they just gave the tickets away, or didn’t go. Even withTrout or Shohei.
If the Angels are willing to pay like HALF of that contract, why not? You'll probably have to give up a prospect or 2 as well. Btw, Juan Soto is also a free agent so the Giants may break the bank for him. The problem with Mike Trout is they have to convince him to play either the corner outfield or DH (as you mentioned). Playing CF is just taking a toll on his knees.
Overrated? 😂 Trout in his elite years bat .300+ OBP of .400+ and OPS of a 1.000+ while hitting power . He was elite could have won 5 MVP's but they robbed him multiple times. What Bobby Witt is doing this season, that's basically prime Mike Trout is like.
Stick him at DH for 130 games play him in left for 20 he will stay healthy put Eldridge at first Eldridge at first Wisley second Fitzgerald short Chapman third Bailey catching Ramos in Left McCray in Center and Lee in right thats a Great 8 LFG.....
Is it risky? Of course Is there a better than 50% chance the contract will "work out"? Probably not However Baseball teams burn lots of $ - it's part of the game So the question is: Is it possible that he can recapture past glories? No team should be taking on Trouts contract. He is not going to be playing for much longer due to the injuries. Youth and time are not on Trout’s side.
True that
Why would anyone take over a very large contract for a player who cannot stay healthy.
I guess in hopes he will stop getting hurt.. but the pattern is MORE injuries as players get older, not less.
which sf giants teams won the ws?
the ones who pursued and paid fa or the ones that built from within?
He'll be 34 years old next year, injury prone, and maybe 2 or 3 good seasons also will be paid huge money until he is 40 years old. Even if the Angels eat half of his contract, it's too risky for any team.
We can pick him up if he’s willing to negotiate a major pay cut
Full NTC which he has stated on multiple occasions he's not waiving. /video
So, let me remind you of a few things...
Cobb... got a contract, didn't play a single game
Ray... played what 5 games
Snell... did everyone forget that he missed 1/2 the season, HE DOESNT HAVE 100 INNINGS, FOR 30,000,000 DOLLARS.

NO!!!
FUK NO!!!!
OH HELL NO!!!!!
The last thing the Giants need is another aging "veteran" on the back side of a STUPID contract that gets paid to ride the bench.
That's crazy, only Juan Soto That's all!!!
Soto would definitely be the better option.
Soto is not coming to SF. Do not get your hopes up
@@juansantamaria7476 oh don't worry; my hopes are never up when it comes to free agents.
Yes please Giants take Trout!! Phillies Yankees Dodgers someone take this guy off our hands please and don't listen to the fake Angels fans aka Halo Honks!
Waste of money because he's hurt all the time
And he is Overrated
Lets start with getting rid of Farhan. Getting to competing standing. Working towards a coaching staff that doesn't look like double a and then add some pieces. Trout is fun to see in SL Bees. But a major league Trout in SF would be great if he could be top dude in a full 162.

As much as I like him fuck no keep our OWN home grown talent
Heck NO. No disrespect to how great Trout has been, but he is not that player anymore. He's only played 266 games in the last four years (41%), and it's clear that he can't reliably stay healthy.
If the Giants were going to take on Trout’s entire contract, they’d be better off spending that money on a younger and healthier player.
They forgot what aubrey huff was or barry zito. Let him DH its working for ohtani
Just having Trout on the team could make SF a more desirable place to the BIG free agents we haven’t been able to land
No they should not take over this contract. The price is ridiculous.Giants need a superstar in the line up? Like you said how often has he actually been in the line up. Be really really patient and let's hope his son is playing baseball in 18 years. 😂😂😂 Or Giants develop their own stars.

You guys can have the Angels cover half of contract or something like this
Mike Trout isn’t a superstar anymore…if you’re throwing out that kind of money it’s Juan Soto
Sign Juan Soto, make two lower level trades for Jose Caballero and Connor Wong. This addresses SS and the catching depth that they need.
I'm good I don't want an injured fish on the giants lol
Trout? Absolutely not.
At $37 million a year for trout i would take it and play him strictly at DH. HOF is in the rear view mirror.

It's a disastrous contract for the Giants to take on...which means this will probably happen.
Trout has a full NTC so he would have to OK any deal, and the Angels haven't shown any desire to trade him. That'd be pretty sweet.
This Team is in Desperate need of Star Power.
No why pay for a guy who can’t play? He won’t be healthy you’ll pay him too much for zero production. This would be Marvin Bernard 2.0. Whoever thinks this would be a good idea doesn’t understand baseball or how an organization or business work. They don’t need a superstar at all.
Do it. Trout is done.
We'll send you Rendon lol
The Giants have not had a homerun hitter at home since Barry Bonds. Not saying Mike Trout could pick up the slack but he is older now and constantly injured. They do not make baseball players like they used too. So Giants get him make him the DH. I am 42 years old and can still do a full sprint and play tennis. We all age differently.
I don't believe that would be a good idea. But all we can do is wait and see.
100%
Shhh 🤫.....it's an excellent idea
im an agel fan please take him giants lololololol
An all Mike outfield?! Conforto, Trout, and Yastrzemski. AKA: Mike, Mike, and Mike. Make it happen!
I would make him a DH He’s too injury prone
I recently saw an article that said Mike Trout said he would be OK being a full-time designated hitter.

40 million a year for a crippled man in a wheel chair on HGH
Have the Angels pickup a 1/3 of the contract and do it!
Yes.
i think you guys should, that would be a smart baseball move..please do so...please
Mike Trout is damaged goods right now. It's very risky to make that trade.
No! Enough already of this one step towards the future, two steps into the past nonsense....
No, no, no, no ,no
If the Angels are willing to pay like HALF of that contract, why not? You'll probably have to give up a prospect or 2 as well.

The problem with Mike Trout is they have to convince him to play either the corner outfield or DH (as you mentioned). Playing CF is just taking a toll on his knees.
Yeah, he would have to change positions for sure.
You guys can have Soto and Trout in the OF oh my !
You guys can just let Trout sneak in some extra PED's and just look the other way when he starts belting 70 home runs
I'm hoping we get Willy Adamas and/or Anthony Santander.
We have to get Trout and or Soto
Id go for it but only as a DH and leave the outfield for the young kids!
Mike Trout is not a superstar! Very overrated.
Trout has the same career OPS+ as Judge, both are almost 20 points higher than Ohtani and 30 points above Harper.
Those guys are each leading their teams into the playoffs . Trout doesn’t play and when he does play he doesn’t drive in runs and strikes out too much
Overrated? 😂 Trout in his elite years bat .300+ OBP of .400+ and OPS of a 1.000+ while hitting power . He was elite could have won 5 MVP's but they robbed him multiple times. What Bobby Witt is doing this season, that's basically prime Mike Trout is like.

Any team besides the White Sox and Athletics need to try to get Mike Trout out of Anaheim
Not my $$$$$ sign him
if the Angels eat half the contract, sure
💯
🪦⚰️
Is it risky?
Of course
Is there a better than 50% chance the contract will "work out"?
Probably not
However
Baseball teams burn lots of $ - it's part of the game
So the question is:
Is it possible that he can recapture past glories?
Let's look at *_ONLY_* the far right column of his Baseball Reference stats

So, it *_is_* risky
However, the potential upside is HUGE
