"The debate between 2 strokes and 4 strokes will go on" I'm so happy to hear that. We live in a time where we can enjoy both. They're both great bikes. I'd take the 2 stroke though.

4t predictable and boring. I’ve had both and will never go back, 2 stroke all the way. The throttle response, beautiful sound, and keeps you feeling alive - plain and simple......more fun to ride
Call me sensitive but it warms my heart yamaha stuck with the 2 stroke during that transition period where 2 strokes where phased out by others most forgot abt them but once they where almost all gone the guys who came up on 85s and 125s as i did went we miss 2strokes an yamaha has the market almost cornered which seems to be something most love
Yamaha started this 4 stroke Moto thing. I remember when 4 strokes didn't belong in Moto, then Doug Henry almost won on the YZ400. I thought would only be a phase but next thing I know, people bitch about not having electric start and men go into women's bathrooms.
It would depend on the kind of riding your doing. For day in and day out on the street, it would be hard to beat an old 250cc BMW I once had with it's 16 horsepower. Later years, I had a wonderful Suzuki TS 250R that I commuted with back and forth to my job as a mechanic and service manager at a Kawasaki/Suzuki shop in N.Y. It was as stone reliable as the old Beemer but had the attendant problems of a simpler machine and, even with the great experimental oils supplied by Union Carbide for several years, the emissions and smoking were going to work against it. Motorcycling has had exciting years with technical advancements but really, when the satisfaction quotient depends on constant quests for horsepower, the sport and industry are going into the territory of diminishing returns and I see it happening now. They are falling over their own "progress" and they have lost their way.
@@whalesong999 amen brother, marketing to egos has always been with us ,but it is much worse, maybe to much exposure to other egos. they forget the bike.
One thing you will never get from a video. The truly amazing smell sound and feel of a two stroke aspecialy when the bike trys to throw you off the back like a bull! They are also about 1000 times more fun to work on and thats almost 1 half the fun.
I love both! But in north idaho with highish elevation the 4stroke is more reliable unless your 2stroke is tuned perfectly. But I risk it, 2 stroke all the way for me!
You don't know acceleration until you've ridden on built YZ400/490 bikes from yesteryear! Shift strategy? SHift as fast as you can, and it's likely still not fast enough...! Zero to-65-70 mph in what feels like 2-3 seconds... My Kawasaki GpZ1100 felt slow by comparison.
4t vs. 2t? Blondes vs. brunettes? Ford vs. Chevy? Why? Its best to have both and I do. My WR450 can do things my 250x can't and vice versa. I think it's great that there are so many options these days.
Anything Yamaha wins in my book :) although I would love to see a yz125x type of bike. I ride a yz125 that's heavily modified for woods riding and I love it. Thanks for all of the great videos.
Yeah it has enough power. It would be nice to have a wide ratio transmission. And if I lose momentum on a hill or make a mistake I have to use the clutch a lot, but it works. :) I think the lack of power at times is more than offset by it's light weight though. In my opinion.
I own both a 2 stroke and 4 stroke dirt bikes. I will say that I prefer the 4 stroke for cruising and going on longer trail rides. But I definitely prefer the 2 stroke if I want to go fast and rip around on dirt tracks. Also the sound and smell of a 2 stroke is hard to beat.
@@GrowingDownUnder many modern views on what works better formed by marketing and propaganda, some of us were there when it happened. I do accept some people prefer 4 stroke dirt bikes and good for them but all things being equal they are slower and more expensive
@@crunchytheclown9694 more expensive? I can run hundreds of hours on a rebuild on my yz450f. Two strokes need top ends frequently to keep them moving. And any machining is virtually the same and 2 strokes suck back more fuel. I would say that cost is not much different.
@@trevor866 as these motors evolve they have become more like each other in some ways, shorter life span and increased servicing in four strokes trying to achieve comparable power outputs, two stroke added complexity (power valve , fuel injection etc) The reality is both motors worked hard over a period of time the two stroke is still cheaper to maintain (set of ring and gaskets 60% of freshen ups ) and you still get the bonus of more power less weight. Each to their own happy riding
@@crunchytheclown9694 that's fair to say. I would agree that the two stroke is cheaper. But taking a good look into how technology has evolved in two strokes I'm not sure if the difference is enough to justify the love of two strokes over four strokes. Both are amazing bikes. I'm currently bring a 2008 yz450 back from the dead because the previous owner couldn't afford or couldn't be bothered to do the maintenance. I have about 1300 invested in the motor which in the grand scheme of things isn't too bad for a motor that was one or two rides away from being toast. I've seen comparable numbers with the modern two strokes. I sincerely hope that two and four strokes continue to improve. Both are awesome to ride.
I had an extra 2015 YZ125 as a back up bike that I had for sale and I can tell you that many guys who were on KTM's specifically the 150 couldn't stand the suspension and wanted to trade their KTM for the YZ. Rather than discount the YZ; they need to come up with a updated frame like they did with the four strokes.
I used to have a KTM 250 exc 2-stroke and my brother used to have a yz 250f. We both liked the KTM better because of how smooth it was and how much power it had even at low rpms. 2-stroke all day long!
yeah it’s a little more fun to ride than a yz250fx but it is way more maintenance than the fx and in price bc just the oil u mix in the gas is more than almost all the maintenance you’ll every have to do on a fi 4 stroke if u change the oil every 10-15 hours
It’s all a matter of the rider’s preference. For example, a few years ago I took a 2 stroke 125 into the 450 class at my local track and claimed first for the season. The following season I rode a 450 and took 5th. Season after that I rode my buddy’s CR250 and was back on top. The reason is because I’m a 2 stroke rider. I like to just wring the bike’s neck and toss it around like a mountain bike. Not to mention the nasty snarling sound a 2 stroke makes. The brap of a 4 stroke is cool but the snarl is just sublime
2 stroke just rocks I write this before watching the video, the power surge is like a drug to me I was lucky enough to get a big wheel YZ80 for my 12th birthday after having a PW80 for about 5 years and its just the sound and smell I Fu**ing love it.
The debate has been going on forever and it will forever, 2strokes don’t mind 4ts but 4t riders seem to constantly want to feel superior, I’d have both, if one the YZ250x though. Both look great,. Yamaha have done a great job with the FX, be good if you guys did a long term year review of both and compared costs of ownership.
Owen Arsenault no way mate we havent been trying to ban the 4t for the last 4 decades, we are secure in our 2t skins and not so sensitive to bike farting and sounding like tractors, it dosent bother us at all, but it bothers 4t riders that because they need twice the capacity just to compete if thats not insecurity I dont know what is and then to top it off only in the millenial age is fatter heavier been marketed and worse believed os better than lighter easier quicker handling no different with cars oh modern times. But hey I will always greet you on the track and trail and say nice bike dude. Its how us 2stroke Guys roll “we aint pretty he-s my brother!” 🤙happy trails.
Generally looking at comments, that's absolute bullshit. Even in this very comment section, all you find are people saying how useless 4 strokes are and how 2 strokes will always be superior, even insulting all 4 stroke riders just because of their choice of machine
Dean Grimsell - Was just about to say the same thing, it’s always 2t riders banging on about how much better they are 😴 I love both for different things, but some people are just so blinkered... it’s pretty pathetic.
Not hating on the four stroke, but if you ride really rough enduro type stuff the two stroke definitely is the way to go there, basically the only racing left where the two stroke still dominates the podiums is hard enduro.
JakeTheLittleSnake that’s because the are allowed to compete on equal footing, no bs rules to protect Japanese companies and the fact that the Euro off road brands are as up to date technology wise as they’re 4t counter parts, the Yamaha is held back on some ways being the only 250 2t that is a 5 Speed, the rest are 6 Speed, hydraulic clutch, e start, map switches TPI, adjustable power valves, Yamaha does good with what it is, but how many do you see in hard Enduro, a few but near almost all are European brands, also where 4t and 2 t complete together in Enduro GP which is not traditional as Enduro as it once was, 2t is also dominating. Juniors 125cc 2t - 2504t 2t 125s is leading and they have been dominating the 250fs, E1 - 250 Beta currently leader and won most rounds to date E2 the only class that is 4t only guess what a 4t leads that one. E3 250-2t - 300 2t up to 450 4t, dominated by 300 2t Beta again. Enduro GP overall lead by Beta 300 2t 4 class out of 5 lead by 2t in Enduro GP many special stages are basically Mx or GNCC style tracks mixed with Enduro courses to finish 2t is not dead that’s what MX wants you to believe on even footing and development it would be no contest.thats what they don’t want.
The ironic thing about the Calif and Honda how they pushed the 4t thing through on everyone with they’re fear and threats is that MX is the lure closed course competition it never had anything to worry about emission wise, yet the everyday weekend warrior where however many times more bikes are sold are used outside of a closed course is where the 2t has stayed the course proven itself time and time again, they’re were no politics and agendas that held back those sports why Hard Enduro emerged and is becoming the biggest baddest off road segment of all, it reaches everyone connects to everyone, MX and esspecially SX as become an elitist sport like all others sports dominated by politics and money esp TV coverage. The numbers get less each year u it’s sold, eventually Honda Suzuki will cry we don’t sell enough bikes to worry about MX, like they did with the 500 class, that’s the lie they will tell again, to justify their position. Unfortunately people will buy into that crap.
With some reluctance I agree. I began riding enduros on Bultaco Matadors in the mid '60s and went on to medal in the Berkshire Intl. trials on OSSA and a Suzuki. The terrain was so incredibly demanding in most places and having to get off and pull a bike out of some muck or negotiating the side of a steep hill going across it diagonally, it would have been a huge chore with a 4t, especially if an engine is prone to stalling. The 2 strokes didn't and that was such a big key to them being a joy to ride though there were some Triumph 500 twins getting on well in the larger class. The entire course was laid out by a grand fellow, Al Eames, on a 500 Triumph.
Can’t lie, I love how the 2 stroke sounds But the 4 stroke is bombproof! I had a Xr 100 4 stroke and it went for ages without ANY repairs AT ALL ALso had a YZ125 2 stroke and was constantly changing rings gaskets etc... I’d go 4 stroke these days personally But both are fun... Ride safe boys🤘
Riley McKee Might just be a bit of luck involved My brother bought a transit connect for £4000 ...blew up 3 days later! I bought same model van for £750 Never cost me a penny?!... Luck of the draw I think 🤔 👍🏻
Because your xr was a underpowered trail bike, i had a Kawasaki kmx 125 thas has an detuned kx 125 engine that does 24hp only and that bike lasted me 20.000 miles on a single piston. Your yz was a race bike and racing four strokes last maybe 3x as long as two strokes but when it comes to fixing them , it costs thousands
I owned 4 strokes my whole life. After years I finally had owned my dream bike a 2000 CR250R 2 stroke. I will never want a 4 stroke again. The 2 stroke just has this fun factor that keeps you on your toes with the power band. Hopefully someday I can be in a position to own another dirtbike and I will 100% be looking for a YZ250X
I still remember when my friend let me ride his new 2 stroke Suzuki RM80 and I was hooked. From that point I only bought 2 stroke because the power will put a smile on your face. My last bike was a 85 CR500 before I got married and so I have been out of dirt biking for many years now, so its hard for me to believe that a 450 4T could out run a 500 2T from what the Honda salesman told me. I think he's BS'ing me.
It might outrun the 2stroke but only on certain ground, cause the 4strokes are heavier on the ground and an even distribution in their power band. That holds only true for ground where you have bad traction like dirt. But else there would be no way, it is a day night difference between them. Thats why in many racing category's 2strokes compete against 4strokes with twice the amount of cubic.
I love my 17 450fx... I learned on kx250 2t and I don’t understand how people can say 450’s are for putting around. Lmao they must not have ever pined one before. I put a fmf F4.1 on it and it sound awesome you are correct General!
2 stroke guy, but I will take either or. Actually have a 2 stroke yz250 that I made into a trail bike, flywheel weight, new pipe and took the front sprocket down 1 tooth. But I am looking at the yz450fx for my next ride.
Sold my wr400f for a yz250 and hot damn what a difference, from bush pig to inferno. Grabbing a handful on the WR is ok, but do that on the YZ and she'll launch to the moon without you.
I am a Yamaha guy but I would like to see an updated frame on the YZ125 and YZ250. It's really about time as it hasn't really changed since 2005 for the frame. Yamaha's four stroke bikes have the advancements in the frames and are more balanced.
I would love it, E-start update the engine and trans. I just think of everything they have l done in the past 8 years on 4 T's half of that has to be applicable to this platform.
I agree money should be spent on the 2 stroke platform and E-start would be great. I like the simplicity of two strokes; much easier on the wallet to maintain and rebuild.
The yz250 simply is the perfect dirtbike, if you like carb and kickstart, there is nothing to improve. The ergonomics are perfect and the KYB SSS suspension is exactly the same as on 2024 Yamaha four strokes, i have ridden all sorts of ktms and i still prefer the yz250 because i prefer simplicity. If you can’t handle a kickstart and some vibration , you probably are too old to ride a dirtbike anyways. I have finished top 5 in about every local xc/woods race on my 250x competing with mainly ktm and husky. The only thing i don’t like is the cable clutch but i put a magura hymec on it.
I do own a 2019 YZ250FX and I love it, great bike. But I have to admit that there is something special with that two stroke that you can’t get with a four stroke. Just my two cents. :)
You should grenade both motors then compare the cost to repair them. I like 4 strokes but the cost and ease of maintenance and repair will always keep me on a 2 stroke.
Stacked side by side, the 4T looks sleeker but It’s like asking “blondes? Or brunette’s?” because both of these machines are sexy. I have a bit of a crush on the yZ250X but beauty will always be in the throttle of the beholder.
I could never pick one or the other. A 2 stroke is nearly impossible to stall through nasty slow stuff. It refuses to overheat. They’re so light and nimble and fun. And they’re fairly simple to maintain. And the 4 stroke feels comfier at steady speed and just buttery smooth. With momentum, they’re absolutely amazing. And 4 stroke wheelies are nice.
Just bought a 22 yz250x 4 months ago first time riding in 12+ years and the last bike I rode was a Honda 70 let’s just say it was the best thing I ever bought
Factories are making too much money off the 4 strokes because when they blow up, more money made for the factories and dealers, and more empty pockets for the people that buy the damn things.
@@carlatamanczyk3891 If you maintain your four-stroke it won't blow up. If you ride it until it blows up and then complain about reparation costs you shoot in your own foot. Also that's a myth that dealers earn big money on spare parts. If you do everything yourself they hardly earn anything at all.
@@rovidbouski4022 You need to maintain things, not ride until they break. Your bank account will say thank you to you. Now tell me fixing a TPI bike is less complicated than fixing a 4-stroke. What 2-stroke fans don't understand is that Japanese gave up on 2-strokes not because they wanted to make more money on parts, but because to make progress on 2-strokes like all the fans want, they would make it more complicated than a 4-stroke. And KTM has done just that! At this point a 250 cc 4-stroke makes equal power to a 250 cc 2-stroke, which just proves that the bet on 4-strokes was absolutely correct. You can as well say that it's more complex to fix an injector than a carburettor which can be true, but the truth is, you never have to fix an injector. It's more complex, but it just works. While I remember my farther always messing around with his carburettor. Yes, he could do that on his lap, but it was unreliable. I have never had a carbureted car or a motorcycle just for that reason. I want to ride, not sit in my garage doing "cheap" maintenance.
Aleks, more moving parts equals more maintenance. The reason they switched to 4 strokes is pollution. I dont care what you do to a 250 cc 4 stroke, its always less powerful than a 250 cc 2 stroke. And the 2 stroke is lighter
I'm 55 and have rode since I was 2 I have an Indian 50 my parents got me when I was one , and as far as 2 vs 4 , both put a huge smile on my face any time I throw a leg over . The only gripe I have is with the electric starters!!!! The old saying " if you can't crank it you can't ride it " was a good thing .. now anyone who can mash a button can throw a leg over a 250 or god forbid a 450 and take off and that's bad ,because as y'all know neither is something to take for grantite (sp?) NO ONE who doesn't ride should jump on a 450 and just go , that's death on a stick mate !! So 2 or 4 strokes ROCK , but E.starters NOT SO MUCH !! RIDE ON !!
One thing that is not a debate on which is better. To bring the “greener” four strokes on the market and make them competitive, more money had to be brought to the sport. Prices had to go up! As the four stroke technology got more complex the price had to increase. This in turn had to bring up the price for two strokes as well, other wise no one would buy four strokes. Since there was one power stroke to every other rotation of the motor (2 strokes 1 power stroke to one revolution), displacement compensation had to be use. 250 two strokes vs 400 four strokes. Then 440s then the 450. Then the four strokes could over take the two strokes. Along with the redesign of tracks more suitable for four strokes. In the golden days of dirt bikes you could buy your kid a race bike and it not cost what a street bike would cost. You could work on the two strokes yourself easily. Now four strokes are single cylinder Lamborghinis! Look at the pistons and the head design. I’m going to say top end technology. And still to this day we are arguing which is better? Well I want a Lamborghini too, but it better out preform all other cars. Can we have affordable fun back please?
I bought 2 new bikes on same day because i wanted best of both worlds. The WR450 and YZ-250X -each has their pros and cons. But I do agree with the video. The 4-stroke is more forgiving and handles really well. Bottom end -2stroke all day. But top end -you gotta go with mighty 4-stroke. She just keeps on picking up speed and its pretty fun. Oh and I ride in the desert and sea-level. THanks, great video -though it was made yrs ago.
There is no debate the 4 stroke is king and will always be king.4 strokes are better all around bikes and that 4 stroke sound is way more awesome.im 55 years old been riding motorcycles all my life 4 strokes have been and will always be the bikes to own.
Just reinforcing what we all know. Yes, the four-stroke is probably a better overall bike, and especially for real racing. But, the two stroke will always be more fun.
OK I grew up on 2 strokes, love that snappy power with light weight. The whole roll on 4 stroke things leaves me cold. But this is an annoyingly incomplete assessment. I want a play bike. And I don't want to spend countless hours or $$$ in the garage. Which is easier to maintain? And for that matter, which needs less maintenance? Which one lasts longer before needing a top end (or similar) rebuild? And when it does, which is going to cost less (and that's a combo of time and parts)?
fredgien 4 strokes are easier to ride so on long rides I’d imagine the 4 stroke would be easier but 2 stroke would be more fun and rewarding because it takes skill to ride it well . 4 stroke is easy , can lug it around any gear and don’t have to work
Wish I could afford both. The 250x for extreme enduro, tight single track, then fx for local xc race series. Plus I will still want a ride while the 4t is down for engine rebuilds....valves, cranks, pistons , timing chain and tensioner.......
I rode both of these at a test ride day, and if anyone has questions I’ll be glad to answer... But if you ask what one is better, I have no answers for that, they are both fantastic..
help me mate, 49 years old, looking for some light enduring pleasure riding- not going to get any results- just want to have fun - i do own 250 4t, but recently bought 125 2t- this bike feels so much lighter and more fun..i can controll it much better tan 4t.. but many people say that this bike is no good for enduring, also beginning??
used to have an YZ250 , '83 I believe, but afterwards, remembering serial number, I tend to believe, it was a factory machine.. it was sooo powerfull. A 500 couldn't get away, it was said to have 65HP. Had to sell it, due to place restriction ( parents) , wanted to make it a streetlegal. The next owner starved it, to get it less powerfull, yet didn't end well, not for rider, not for bike :(
The four stroke seems to handle better, because it's slower. And heavier too. Try doing a quick top end on the four striker. When they finally mate a two stroke top end on a four stroke bottom end, with an intake injector, heaven.
I just bought a 2017 YZ450FX and love it. I upgraded from a 2010 yz450f. Let me tell you I really like having electric start. It would be hard to go back to a bike that didn’t have it lol
Racers are probably gravitating towards 4 stroke due to less maintanance, but that goes both ways! A 2 stroke any one can rebuild, while the 4 strokes you gotta know more about the mechanics!
If your comparing 250cc 2 stroke to a 250 4 stroke the 2 stroke has significantly more torque; especially off idle, but also throughout the whole powerband. If your comparing a 250 4 stroke to a 125cc 2 stroke, yes, of course it has more low end torque. Its twice the size. Why not compare a 500cc 2 stroke to a 250cc 4 stroke? The 500 makes more torque at 2000 rpm that the 250 does.....at any speed.
@@brianmorrison9066 you are wrooong!A 250cc 2 strokes produces more power than a 250cc 4 strokes ONLY at high RPM. Do some research before you say anything. You say "why not compare a 500cc 2 stroke to a 250cc 4 stroke". Yes of course it makes more torque at low RPM! Because it has a lot bigger displacement than the 250 4 stroke. But a 4 stroke has 1 less power stroke every 2 crankshaft revolutions. 4 strokes have more displacement but less powerstrokes and 2 strokes have less displacement and more powerstrokes. NOW WE ARE FAIR. Its like comparing a Rotary engine to a Piston engine. A 1.3L 2 rotor Turbo rotary can make 250HP but a Piston 4 stroke engine with the same turbo boost would require more cylinders and higher displacement to achieve that horsepower. The rotary has 1 big advantage. Even though it works with the 4 stroke principle IT FIRES 3 times per crankshaft revolution! Im trying to tell that the 2 stroke wins because it has MORE power strokes! Thats why 4 strokes usually come with bigger displacement. 4 strokes can rip the dirt as good as a 2 stroke when you compare them to a 2 stroke of lower displacement. But as i sad, the 2 strokes has more POWER STROKES. Thats why it can make more power with less displacement
Oh, I see your point which is; Because the 2 stroke has a better design we will give the 4 stroke 100% handicap. *like NBA where one team measures 6'8" and the other one is 5'4" they just need to....you know.....score 2x the points to win a game......because "now we are fair".
Love my 2018 yz250. Only thing i dont like is the throttle. Compared to my 2007 kx250 it feels really easy to turn. In choppy terrian it blips real easy. Is there a stiffer spring out there i can put in my carb. Or any other tricks to make it feel more old school.. lol Ive been reading dirtbike mag since the 80s.
get a 4 stroke. Its much more durable, you get better fuel economy, it has plenty of low end torque which is good for begginers. You can get a 2 stroke too tho. 2 strokes break down more often but parts are cheaper. Both are great
@@MrBusta30408 Modern 4 strokes rev higher than the 2 strokes of old. Peak power on a water cooled 250 two stroke is around 9k RPM, while a 250F and even a 450F will rev up to around 14k. The power bands are narrower necessitating a closer spaced gearbox.
I prefer a 2 stroke over 4 stroke any day but I will take a ktm 250sx over a yamaha 250 yz also but as far as brands are considered yamaha would be my 2nd choice out of any other bike!
Why would you do a 250x 2stroke vs a 250 4stroke? Wouldn't a 450x be more on par HP wise? I get that they're both 250's but they're apples & oranges. They don't even compete in the same class, do they?
"The debate between 2 strokes and 4 strokes will go on" I'm so happy to hear that. We live in a time where we can enjoy both. They're both great bikes. I'd take the 2 stroke though.
I am afraid if we keep comparing with the heavy bias to 4 strokes Yamaha may stop making the yz250 2 stroke. The 2 stroke can stand on its own.

Ane things for sure, weather its a four stroke or a two stroke Yamaha it always the best
Amen! Words simply cannot describe it! 😁
100% agree. Riding a HondaCR 500 was an absolute beast, it felt like shifting up gears the acceleration kept increasing! I’ll never forget that bike
life is short, try both, pick the one you like the most, or both, end of story, nobody cares...
Miss my 2 stroke. But 4 stroke lot more relaxed pulls up steep mud & loose rocks easier.
Cant imagine what a dream these are to ride. Was way back for me, 1974-90~, the technology today is amazing. Bob Hannah Rocks!!!

In south africa ive seen 125x in the last couple months
any yamaha even the 250 cant last 10 times more than any 530 ktm
Loydal yz125 have enought power to climb hills??? in slow riding?
Yeah it has enough power. It would be nice to have a wide ratio transmission. And if I lose momentum on a hill or make a mistake I have to use the clutch a lot, but it works. :) I think the lack of power at times is more than offset by it's light weight though. In my opinion.
Loydal so if i get 250 2t il have no problem

I own both a 2 stroke and 4 stroke dirt bikes. I will say that I prefer the 4 stroke for cruising and going on longer trail rides. But I definitely prefer the 2 stroke if I want to go fast and rip around on dirt tracks. Also the sound and smell of a 2 stroke is hard to beat.
Why do people care so much like just pick what works for you!
because they are the same people who think size matters, usually they are overcompensating because their ego won't let them ride 4 strokes
2 stroke is the way to go. Just sold a wr450 which felt like a tank. Just wish Yamaha would discount the 2 stroke to compete with KTM.
I prefer the Yamaha over rhe KTM easily.
Way better suspension
More fun and more reliable.
The e start doesn't impress me much
I like the kickstart
I had an extra 2015 YZ125 as a back up bike that I had for sale and I can tell you that many guys who were on KTM's specifically the 150 couldn't stand the suspension and wanted to trade their KTM for the YZ. Rather than discount the YZ; they need to come up with a updated frame like they did with the four strokes.

yeah it’s a little more fun to ride than a yz250fx but it is way more maintenance than the fx and in price bc just the oil u mix in the gas is more than almost all the maintenance you’ll every have to do on a fi 4 stroke if u change the oil every 10-15 hours
I have the 19 yz250fx, and wouldn't trade it for nothing out there, love my 4stroke
Well said, 2st rider can usually ride 4st better than 4st ride 2st. They both have there places.
Owen Arsenault no way mate we havent been trying to ban the 4t for the last 4 decades, we are secure in our
2t skins and not so sensitive to bike farting and sounding like tractors, it dosent bother us at all, but it bothers 4t riders that because they need twice the capacity just to compete if thats not insecurity I dont know what is and then to top it off only in the millenial age is fatter heavier been marketed and worse believed os better than lighter easier quicker handling no different with cars oh modern times. But hey I will always greet you on the track and trail and say nice bike dude. Its how us 2stroke

Maverick224 it will go until everything's electric
Dean Grimsell - Was just about to say the same thing, it’s always 2t riders banging on about how much better they are 😴 I love both for different things, but some people are just so blinkered... it’s pretty pathetic.
2 stroke the only way too go! Thanks Yamaha for still making them!
Juniors 125cc 2t - 2504t 2t 125s is leading and they have been dominating the 250fs,
E1 - 250 Beta currently leader and won most rounds to date
E2 the only class that is 4t only guess what a 4t leads that one.
E3 250-2t - 300 2t up to 450 4t, dominated by 300 2t Beta again.
Enduro GP overall lead by Beta 300 2t
4 class out of 5 lead by 2t in Enduro GP many special stages are basically Mx or GNCC style tracks mixed with Enduro courses to finish
2t is not dead that’s what MX wants you to believe on even footing and development it would be no contest.thats what they don’t want.
I’m getting a ***** on it must be time for me to go ride my 2t🤪
We have the same bs in MOTOGP 😣

Because your xr was a underpowered trail bike, i had a Kawasaki kmx 125 thas has an detuned kx 125 engine that does 24hp only and that bike lasted me 20.000 miles on a single piston. Your yz was a race bike and racing four strokes last maybe 3x as long as two strokes but when it comes to fixing them , it costs thousands
Nothing NOTHING beats two stroke when it comes to fun and sound.
Riding a 2 stroke dirt bike is one of the funnest things that I've done in my life

I almost bought the 250x but the Husky TE300 came with more feature out of the box. I do think the suspension is much better on the Yamaha.
How do like the TE today?? I bought a 23' WR250 and love it but really want to try a TE!
Sold my wr400f for a yz250 and hot damn what a difference, from bush pig to inferno. Grabbing a handful on the WR is ok, but do that on the YZ and she'll launch to the moon without you.
A YZF450 would blow your YZ250 away!
I just love it that you stick to 2 strokes. They make me feel exillerating.
I am a Yamaha guy but I would like to see an updated frame on the YZ125 and YZ250. It's really about time as it hasn't really changed since 2005 for the frame. Yamaha's four stroke bikes have the advancements in the frames and are more balanced.
I don't see it, they poured a tone of R&D into the yz just before the 4 T's took over.
Sales = R&D $$'s. I love my yz250 but orange is calling my name
I would so love them to take the YZ 2T range to the next level! The fact they are still selling them new gives me a glimour of hope!
Which would you recommend for sandy and rocky conditions?
I love my 2014 YZ250. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I'd take the 2 smoke funer to ride
yes ''less power'' would find traction. up to ''rider to deliver ''2 stroke'' power , gently......

Aleks, not true! 4 stroke bikes will be much more expensive to fix and are more complicated
4 strokers love the smell of my Bel Ray.
Both are great bikes, some rides I would ride the 2 stroke, other longer rides the 4 stroke.
I'm 55 and have rode since I was 2 I have an Indian 50 my parents got me when I was one , and as far as 2 vs 4 , both put a huge smile on my face any time I throw a leg over . The only gripe I have is with the electric starters!!!! The old saying " if you can't crank it you can't ride it " was a good thing .. now anyone who can mash a button can throw a leg over a 250 or god forbid a 450 and take off and that's bad ,because as y'all know neither is something to take for grantite (sp?) after the EPA outlaws 2 stokes we'll be wondering what's better 4 strokes or electric bikes nice comparison love yamahas 2 or 4 stroke thanks
Why do people argue over what's best they both are better but in different ways, so just stop complaining and ride what feels best
I have a 250x but have always been a little envious of the looks of the fx.
Thanks for sharing
There is no debate the 4 stroke is king and will always be king.4 strokes are better all around bikes and that 4 stroke sound is way more awesome.im 55 years old been riding motorcycles all my life 4 strokes have been and will always be the bikes to own.
Next 6 stroke
Isn’t a twostroke more of a handfull than a fourstroke? Which bike could you handle longer?
fredgien 4 strokes are easier to ride so on long rides I’d imagine the 4 stroke would be easier but 2 stroke would be more fun and rewarding because it takes skill to ride it well . 4 stroke is easy , can lug it around any gear and don’t have to work

used to have an YZ250 , '83 I believe, but afterwards, remembering serial number, I tend to believe, it was a factory machine.. it was sooo powerfull.
The 2 stroke is such a beauty
I really wish the yz250x was offered with electric start!
Are there any differences from the 2018s???
Racers are probably gravitating towards 4 stroke due to less maintanance, but that goes both ways!
A 2 stroke any one can rebuild, while the 4 strokes you gotta know more about the mechanics!
Left hand throttle?
Oh, the 4t hooks up better?
Throw on a fww, flx the head, pv mod and jetting on the 2t and then compare. It's about $350.
I'm amazed that the two stroke sounds quieter than the 4 stroke. That is the biggest surprise to me.
2 stroke beats it's all day round the track and on the straight ....the power doesn't lie
I remember for years magazines kept saying how 4 strokes had so much more torque. Yeah, sure they do. More like %40 less.
actually 4 strokes have much more low end torque and a wider powerband. They just don't kick hard
2019 250sxf dyno (2017 250sx)
4k 10hp (17hp)
6k 17hp(32hp)
8k 28hp(42hp)
10k 35hp (50 hp @8800 rpm)
12k 38hp (n/a)
14k 38hp (n/a)
Res ipsa loquitur.
Oh, I see your point which is;
Because the 2 stroke has a better design we will give the 4 stroke 100% handicap.
Or any other tricks to make it feel more old school.. lol
Ive been reading dirtbike mag since the 80s.
Ah, the two stroke sounds so good to an old guy like me.
well i always heard 250 2stroke is supposed to compare with 450 4stroke, not 250 4stroke?
i just bought the 2022 yz450fx a couple of weeks ago.....so glorious.
Which dirt bike would be good to get at a low price?? (My first one)
get a 4 stroke. Its much more durable, you get better fuel economy, it has plenty of low end torque which is good for begginers. You can get a 2 stroke too tho. 2 strokes break down more often but parts are cheaper. Both are great
I always wanted a kick stand.
2 stroke needs to have a 6-speed. 5-speeds work for mx track & sand thats about it
SOLAR SS 2 strokes 5th gear Max’s out at 144kms , don’t see anyone needing a 6th gear to go faster then that
OK!! Why does the 4- stroke get 6 gears and the 2-stroke get 5 gears? Seems u guys are giving the 2-stroke a disadvantage to the 4!!
I think because the 4 stroke doesn't have as much power so it needs a lower 1st and a 6th for the top end.
The two stroke doesn't rev as high and doesn't need gears spaced as closely
@@RyanMcIntyre I hope you meant the 4 stroke doesn't rev as high.
@@RyanMcIntyre interesting.
I wonder if they are going to update the 250x anytime soon I don't want to buy a new one and then they update it.
