    When River gets a little older and wants to draw. DON’T take wax crayons. When it gets hot the wax will melt and make a mess. Colored pencils work better for traveling.

    When you said take a few toys away from the child before you travel remind me what my mum used to do as I was growing up. I only had about a third of my toys available to me in my room at all times. All the other ones were stored away in boxes and every few months it was time to swap them around. I was so excited when swapping time arrived as if my parents bought me a whole bunch of new toys! I would totally recommend this to parents to avoid kids getting bored of toys :)

    Check out wet bags on Amazon. We keep them in the diaper bag and put swimsuits, wet clothes, poopy clothes, etc. They never leak and you just chuck them in the wash and they are good as new.

    One thing that worked for us and traveling with our toddler was to buy little toys, books, etc. that he had never seen before. Doesn’t have to be expensive...just something new... we would save them for the plane or long car ride...he loved it!😉Your videos are a pleasure to watch! Thank you!

    Just as one point that I wasn't sure you mentioned. If you are taking your own car seat check the laws in the place you are going, particularly around what age children are allowed to forward-face in a car. A lot of places are now changing laws so that children have to be at least 2 years old to forward-face, and in some scandi countries it's rear-facing until 4 :)

    • @destiny13006
      @destiny13006 5 лет назад +1

      MattieOnRUclips honest question, how would a 4 year old fit facing the rear? Wouldn't their legs be too long?

    • @kelann89
      @kelann89 5 лет назад +3

      @@destiny13006 no. There are car seat with extended parts. Toddlers dont keep their legs straight as often as you might think. I prefer the rear facing high ages. Its safer for the baby.

    • @MattiHeartsHP
      @MattiHeartsHP 5 лет назад +3

      @@destiny13006 they tend to cross their legs or have them sort of bent up. They are still well supported by the seat so it isn't uncomfortable and they can move their legs so they're not stuck in one position.
      Extended rear-facing is considerably safer for children (for everyone technically but cars aren't designed this way lol) which is why the laws are changing to reflect this :) you can actually rear face longer than 4 but it depends on the seat and the height of your child.
      If you are going on holiday to somewhere with extended rear-facing laws then hiring a car seat is probably easier as they are v expensive to buy usually.

    • @RobRoysDaughter
      @RobRoysDaughter 5 лет назад

      A very good Point. We bought a 360° reboarder Car Seat from Cybex. I can turn my 11 month old daughter front or rear faceing in a matter of seconds onehandedly. But I plan to do rear-facing at least until she is 2 or even longer. It is just saver to do.

    • @surlespasdondine
      @surlespasdondine 5 лет назад +1

    Large swaddle blankets are the best, diy sheet if needed, they make good towels if you every forget one and put the under high chairs in restaurants to catch everything then just shake in bin.

    Baby Zen is the besssssst! We love ours! It’s our only stroller (never bothered with a big stroller) so it saved cost since we bought just one. We had no issues connecting our car seat to it when he was little and it is perfect for travel. Plus is easier to get in and out of the car when we are on the go around town.

    This might be controversial but something funny but effective that my parents did when they traveled with me as a toddler, they would wrap toys for me. Some new but also older ones that they had taken away earlier (like Fleur said). Basically, it gave me something else to do and I thought it was the best thing

    Great travel tips. Just FYI, checking a car seat voids it’s warranty and leaves it vulnerable to damage that you can’t see, but that will cause it to malfunction. The best and safest thing to do is buy baby a seat and install their car seat on the plane

    • @chrislynn9666
      @chrislynn9666 5 лет назад +2

      dina sklovskaya I totally agree. We had a thing that would attach to the seat, had wheels and a handle (like a roller bag), that they could actually ride through the airport in the car seat. It was life changing for travel, and much safer to have the seat you trust for all legs of travel.

    I always bring my gb pockit with me when i travel with my kid. It’s so small and lightweight. It’s ok to filled water in the bottles beforehand when you go to airport. As long as it’s only in the baby bottles. I did that everytime because when I travel I always extra careful with what my baby eat or drink. I may sound funny but I always travel with bottles of water for my baby and diapers (my baby tend to get diaper rash from most brands).

    For organizing I recommend packing in wetbags in your backpack. Have one for snacks, one for changing clothes, one for toys and one for diaper stuff. And if the wet bags have different motives or colour it saves you time when finding stuff.. en when on å plane you can take out the bag with snacks and toys and put the rest away on the top shelf..
    Also is babywearing I usely use babywrap instead og babycarrier on trip. Cause then I can use the wrap as armrest or blanket om the flight. Og as a blanket under baby on the airport. 😊

    Love your baby/toddler videos as I have a baby two months younger than River. We are doing a long haul flight with our toddler in two days & I find she loves photos of family and friends so I’ve printed A2 size pics and got them laminated, put a hole in the corner and attached them to a key ring holder (pepper pig). I’ve also made a photo book for her. Hoping these keep her busy for a while! We have the Yoyo and recently brought the cosco scenera next as you can ‘hack’ it on to the Yoyo and it’s compatible with some airlines when you do need to start buying your toddler a seat.

    Traveling with a child is alot of hassle and stress especially long flights. Is like 14 hrs for us when we go back home for the holidays to Hong Kong. We usually go every 2 or 3 years since is so stressful and time difference too. First time my child was 10 months which wasn’t too bad as could sleep in the basket they have hook at your seat. I use powder formula and kept hot water in a thermal flask since they have hot water on the plane. And just make it up an hour early before there feed usually 3 bottles max bring extra baby bottles. Also just change there nappy in the bathroom. I just use a baby carrier mostly strap onto me since there small didn’t need a pram until i got there and didn’t use it much. When there older definitely need more entertainment toys and lots of snacks. And they usually watch cartoons on the plane thats provided usually one way trip when we come back is usually midnight flight so they sleep after a meal on the plane mostly. The ride on luggage bed case you should invest one is good they can use around at airport and on the plane transfer to bed that extra leg room they need for a good sleep.

    I'm afraid of sick so when we travel by car I always free the surface in front of her seat and put a big towel down. I've seen toddlers puke all over the (open) bags two times too often. I always travel with 3liter ziplock bags and extra paper towels for the same reason. I have never taken the plane with her (we'll do that when she's older) but I've been on a 5 hours train/bus ride. I'm glad you're so environmentally conscious! Also, I'm glad to find out that my toddler isn't the only one who peels the sticker, sticks it on a page, then immediately takes the sticker out again.... 🤣

    Wait, I thought you put those nappies on top of a regular nappie to keep it from getting wet? Was I wrong?

      Never, ever use a normal nappy in water! A swim diaper is a nappy, it let's pee out, keeps poo in.

      No the regular diaper would still get wet. Lol fleur is doing it correctly

      Yes you are. Regular diapers just swell instantly. A reusable swim diaper is the most hygenic option.

    Did you know, you are allowed to take water through security if you have a baby. We always do that and it’s no issue.

      Bella Charles when you travel with a baby, you get extra allowence for the luggage

      Minuskica I’ve travelled with a baby and had no extra hand luggage or hold luggage (except push chair) until my child turned 2 and had their own seat. I think that if she is paying to add on extra luggage than the normal amount it should be stated so other families do not turn up to the air port and get a shock when they are charged for extra

      If you have status on an airline they don’t usually charge you for extra bags - I know executive platinum on American let you take what you want within reason even if you have a coach ticket.

    Definitely hard travelling with a toddler. Although try travelling with a toddler and two other kids too.. welcome to my world 😂🙈

    Any child under 2 should be in an airline approved carseat on a plane.
    It is much safer. Most accidents happen upon landing and take off and a child in your lap is a projectile.
    Always use a rear facing carseat when in a car too, it is proven safer and a no brainer.
    In a lot of places it is illegal to forward face before 2.

      I personally have traveled with toddlers and infants and much prefer holding. They are not as projectile as you think. The foucs pushes them onto you.
