Hi from Boston. Work brought us to Ireland last spring, and I bought some Taytos, if only because I thought the name was amusing.
They were pretty alright. Honestly not all that big on the cheese and onion. Thrilled they have salt & vinegar over there, though.

I live in Dublin, and have gone to Tayto park every year since 2011. It’s always been a great day out, but you rarely meet anyone who isn’t Irish there. It’s not a tourist location. It’s not in an easily accessible place and it’s not very big. I feel like it’s almost insulting that they went with a name targeted at audiences abroad rather than here, where the actual demographic is. Most Irish people despise the stereotype of Ireland being all shamrocks and leprechauns. I’m really hopeful that the rebrand won’t be too tourist focused, I’d like to see more Irish mythology and history themed attractions.

My partner went to meet with Largo Foods as part of a job she was doing around the time the Coyles were still involved. Charles Coyle at the time was not running it but was involved in the company so she met him. She found out that because he was the heir to the Tayto brand and was a fierce good lookin man he was locally known as "Prince Tayto".
That is probably the closest thing Ireland has to royalty.

Really appreciate finding a deep dive into this little Irish park! I'd been to Ireland a few times but hadn't heard of this until my last trip in 2018 for a friend's wedding. I bought my husband some Taytos straight off the plane to welcome him to Ireland and we both were amused by the ads for the park on the back and wished we knew more. We didn't get to the park since we had other plans, but the wedding reception did bust out Tayto sandwiches at around 1 am so we had a representative cultural experience.

Glad to finally have an in depth review of the theme park I've only experienced by reading pamphlets in a tourist center lol, I loved the novelty of the theme, especially the 'cheese and onion' and 'salt and vinegar' car parks. I've been fortunate enough to visit Ireland a few times with my parents during the Tayto Park era, but the huge travel cost from Australia meant we were lucky to spend a couple days outside of Galway or Mayo. The whole purpose of the trips was spend as much time with extended family as possible, who understandably had no interest in visiting a potato chip theme park in Meath 😂

I am from Portugal and there are two parks from my childhood I never see covered anywhere
one ( in Portugal) is closed now for many years and there are basically urban legend to why it closed… i never menage to find any video about this … its still seats there abandoned and intact since the yearly 2000s
the other one (Isla Magica in Spain) is the most popular theme park near by… it was so grandiose and amazingly themed… is still pretty good now but as gone down a bit… i would love to see a video covering it up in the style of a typical “ disney history of the park” kind of video… i love seeing those kinds of videos
i know is alot to ask for but i feel like it would really suit your channel as so far for what i see u cover so many different topics that aren’t the usual Disney and Universal

It might be that I disliked Hersheypark because I worked as a games clerk. The park itself is fine, but the food was the main thing for me. The dessert stands and the Crabfries were great. I only went to Hersheypark on my days off because they used to give you two free tickets every other paycheck or something. The theme park in this video sounds pretty rad, though.

@@MikeFromTheParty I mean I’ve been to 99 parks as of last month. I think it’s awesome that most of the UK parks have a spooky/horror theme that we only see here at Halloween. There is a lot more theming than we see in most of the amusement parks here (Excluding Disney/Universal). The queue/pre show thing for The Walking Dead scared the life out of me. The hotels at Chessington and Alton Towers serve some of the best breakfasts in the world! Alton is responsible for the research and development that led to some of my favorite coasters and Nemesis and Smiler make my top 50.

Ok if you've been to so many parks that makes a lot more sense! I love the positive things you have to share - the first time I did that Walking Dead pre-show we were the only ones there and it was so scary walking down that long corridor alone. I do have a couple videos in the pipeline about Thorpe Park...

So I originally bought the book to include a bit on it but I cut it as I thought it was a tangent too far. Unless this video goes mega viral I probably wouldn't do a video just on it to be honest but I can share a bit with you!
The vague vibe is that it's the real story of the Tayto company but retconned to include Mr Tayto, so with real photos but photoshopping him in. In the book Mr Tayto's dad was friends with Joe Murphy and they set up the company together based off Mr Tayto's grandmother's recipe. The book then goes through each decade of Ireland's history since the 50s, sharing Mr Tayto's opinion on everything from rock music to boob jobs. It's a weird read!

@@MikeFromTheParty Oh wow, that is more extensive than I thought, thank you! I'm assuming the book never really goes into the moral issues of a potato participating in the business of potato chip consumption? ;)
In a perfect world the quirky food based theme park would be the video that really blows up, but I get why your Twilight video is more popular. (I'll admit that I only invested the time in watching this after seeing that one.) As someone who grew up with a dream of going to Hershypark, this content speaks to me!

We went there a few weeks after it first opened. There was hardly anything there at the time, the cafe, factory tour, zoo, playground and the climbing wall and the jumping harnessed things. The Native American theming was bigger then and they had people dressed as native Americans walking around chatting to kids and taking photos.
We enjoyed it but thought it was doomed to failure as so little there to make you do a return visit.
Glad to be proved wrong with how much they have invested into it and usually went every year up until COVID-19.

I was SO confused when you started talking about Twisted Chip (I wasn't looking at the screen) but THEN I realised you were talking about what we call Chips On A Stick here in Australia, they're only ever really at big carnivals or fairs in a food truck. They're super popular but I've never seen a brick-and-mortar Chips On A Stick store before, one of those would probably disrupt the fabric of the universe in immeasurable ways (also they're the best with chicken salt, any other flavouring is bullshit)
