Everyone! I did something I almost never do! I made up my mind and bought another bike!
On Friday morning I picked up my brand new 2023 Honda XR150L from Schroader’s Honda in Hendersonville, NC. As far as I know they were the only dealer in the area that had received any of these bikes. Jesse was super helpful and I encourage anyone that’s shopping for a bike to go check out their store.
Once I got the bike, I rode a nice leisurely 20 miles on rolling back roads to my work. One of the things I noticed about this bike is that everyone likes it. There’s something about it that appeals to people who haven’t ridden a motorcycle before. I let at least four beginners throw a leg over it and get a feel for the XR150’s size and weight. They were stoked!
Once work was finally over, I rolled out and up the parkway. The XR150 easily did the speed limit and was excellent in all of the sharp corners that the parkway offers. I got to test the headlight in each of the tunnels along the parkway and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s pretty bright despite not being LED.
A rip down through Bent Creek showed me that this bike is the real deal. The suspension is plush, it handles like a dream, and it’s really, honestly a comfortable bike. I think there’s some things I’ll need to change (pegs, handlebar risers, etc) but that’s all small stuff. I also found that I really like the stock tires. Honda learned it’s lesson from the Trail 125 and it’s crappy tires and actually stocked the bike with some really nice CST dual sport tires.
In all, my first impression of this bike is overwhelmingly positive. I think this bike is going to be a blast for beginners and experienced riders who are after a lightweight, easily maneuverable on and off-road machine that gets killer mpg. I know I’m very excited to use it!

XR150L is like the AK47 of motorcycles here in Southeast Asia. You can thrash it, abuse it etc. and it still works. My friend got this bike in 2015 and he did not have any issue on it, and it runs perfectly 8 years later.

This is not a good buy when the OTD is over $4000 IMO. A WELL proven bike, the Lifan X-Pect is a significantly better buy, with much better performance at a significantly better price. Honda gimped this bike for the US market. No Kickstart? smh

Great video, very good. This same model was sold here in Brazil for a long time, initially with 125 cc and later with 150 cc. Today it is for sale as the NXR 160 Bros, bringing more modernity with the digital panel, electronic injection, disc brakes on both wheels and, obviously, a larger displacement. We still don't have ABS, Ride Modes or Clutch Assist, but the bike is a top seller in the segment, a darling.

Hey there, Filipino viewer here. I've driven that bike and its derivatives here in the Philippines and they are fantastic, reliable bikes. These bikes are used in our more rural areas as they are very well suited to such environments.
I don't understand Honda's price premium on the US market. That same bike locally retails for 97,000PHP which is around $1,700 bucks, and here they are charging you guys for 3k. They also did the same thing with the small 150 ADV scooter.

This bike is being sold in Brazil since 2006. The early versions were carburetor fed and since 2009 came with a fuel injection, some years later, I believe in 2011 they allowed flex fuel (ethanol or gasoline). Since 2016 (+/-) this bike comes with a 160cc engine which many owners redeem worse than the original one. (its called Honda Bros there and costs BRL 20,500 or US$ 4,100 + freight)

The NXR Bros 150 and Bros 160 are Extremely popular down here in Brazil. They look good, are reliable, relatively affordable and approachable. AFAIK, Honda builds the Bros bikes in one of their Brazilian factories. I know there are at least two Honda motorcycle factories here; one in Sumare, near Sao Paulo, and another in Manaus, in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. The bikes sold here are fuel injected and can be run on both unleaded gasoline and/or ethanol biofuel (which is produced in Brazil from sugar cane and readily available at the fuel pumps all over the country). I am really happy to see Honda bringing a version of this bike to the USA. Its affordability, approachability, good looks and fun factor will likely help bring many new people into dual-sport motorbikes and off-road riding.

This bike is NOT a Highway 66 Cruiser - anyone who buys it primarily to cruiser the Highways is an idiot. It is built for a purpose, a certain market.
Years ago, I worked on a very large property - nearly 1,000,000 acres. Bikes and horses were our means of transport and working the stock. We had a choice of a number of bikes of several makes from a 150 Honda trail bike to a 650 Yamaha Trail bike. Everyones favourite for cross-country work was the little Honda - it was just so much easier to handle, negotiate steep, rocky terrain and lift up after an “incident” (which happened numerous times per day due to the nature of the ground we were chasing sheep and cattle over). On the highway - size matters. In the bush, in difficult terrain, size can be a distinct disadvantage. This appears to be a great, fun little bike. Nice, honest review 😁👍🇦🇺

That bike became discontinued everywhere, even in Brasil where it was originally build since 2003. Only in Argentina, is the Honda Tornado being sold brand new, I’d say that if that model makes it to the US just like the XR150L has, then the legendary Honda Tornado will easily and very fast, be sold again massively all across our beloved American continent again. Great for us. It is one of the most common mods to do to XR150L, they done that to North American model already.

Nice video! Was close to buying this bike! It was between this and an 1988 Honda NX 250cc. My Honda dealer recommended the NX over this surprisingly. Either way looks to be a great bike for the price but a bit funny when you compare it to a 35 year old dualsport to see how things have progressed. Ultimately went for the NX for the lower seat height, 6speed and extra power. The NX was way ahead of its time but nice to see an affordable dualsport come to Canada.

Thanks for the informative video. Although it’s a stretch to call a fire road “off road”. In Idaho, that’s called a road. Can this bike make it down a muddy single track, over logs, rocks, etc. as well as maintain a comfortable 55+ mph on a paved road?
    At $3,000, if so, it’s a steal!

I've been curious about this bike since hearing it was coming to the US. Yesterday I happened to be by the Honda dealer and stopped in to see what they had in stock. I was pleasantly surprised they had two XL150's in the showroom. I have to say I was very impressed by the bike overall for the price.
I bought a DR650 last June, so am not in the market at the moment. I have a Kimco Spade 150 I used to commute and explore on for about a year and have kept it around as a spare bike, but have been considering selling. I had a blast on it and even did a 1200 mile tour on it in 2021. If most of your riding is city and back country roads a 150cc is plenty of fun and gets the job done.
When I sell the Spade, It will be hard not to pick up a XL150 as a back up and small explorer.

That said, I rode bikes similar to this around town when I was 14. It looks like a great bike for that and it also looks like a great bike to ride on county roads where speed limits are 55-ish. So far its been a blast compared to the 2019 Grom I previously owned. It feels bigger and way more suited for longer rides with the extra gear and seat shape, not to mention all the new goodies on the gauge cluster. I'm glad to see Honda still trailblazing the modern small bore market with bikes like the XR150L. Most don't realize if they gave these small engines a chance they'd see the benefits, such as low cost of fuel, parts and insurance as well as nimbleness on the roads.

If I had one, my future mods would be a aftermarket pipe(not loud but lighter), anti gravity battery for removing some weight up top, a DID x ring or o ring chain and the Honda hand guards.

I’m sold after watching this & other vid reviews. If you find an after market windshield please post it up. I’m hoping to have a low cost practical, fun, mild use “ LT. Adv Honda Rally.!” LOL !!!

I'm new to bikes... but is that what we consider "off-road"? I actually just bought an XR150 today as my first bike... Thank you for the video by the way.

Congrats on the new bike. I hope you enjoy it!
Just depends on your definition I suppose. Would I have liked to have done this on singletrack? Absolutely. But sadly there’s no legal singletrack immediately near me.
Thanks for watching and ride safe!

It sounds like the space ships on The Jetsens cartoon. It will be interesting to see if it gets a bump in power after it breaks in.
