Can we just admire how perfect of a foil Cheryl is to Larry? She does such a great job of being juuuust a little bit wrong sometimes, or misunderstanding him, while still also being the most grounded one in the relationship. It's such a great dynamic, and so impressive that she's able to not just hold her own, but genuinely sometimes steer an entire scene while paired with debatably one of the greatest comedy writers the United States has ever produced. That's an insane level of talent.
I really think Cheryl is fucking with him calling him an ass man. She fell for him and married him. So I interpret this scene as this is the kind of repore they have with each other Wanda is in on it too, I refuse to believe that she as a black woman comedian is actually that offended, I'm sure she thinks it's funny to call him an ass scrounger
I like her best when she's kinda just trolling Larry like she is (must be) here. Later on she often acts more aghast at his behavior like she just forgot how he is and is just another "straight man" who can't handle Larry, instead of acting like a woman who was married to and lived with him for over a decade - she's funniest when she knows he's being ridiculous and plays into it, in her own way, to make him realize, initially squirm, and then finally relax a little - instead of just chastising which only makes him more "righteous" lol (although, understandable on her part. We love to witness Larry's shenanigans, and often sympathize, but imagine being married to this socially destructive guy - while being a socially-inclined person - no wonder she gets tired of it and cuts & runs hahaha. But it does make the character and their scenes less fun, and often less interesting too)
It's more anger Wanda and his wife ganged up on him. And he didn't say nothing bad all was a greeting. Wanda need to stop crying 😭 like little baby over a greeting.
“No no that’s not so” I love when Larry just slips into some poetic language, it’s just another layer that shows that the character is incapable of ever being truly genuine.
I like how Wanda is one of the few characters who can thrash Larry in a verbal joust, she may not fight fair, but she gives him no room to argue, he even said she was right, truly a gift to be able to beat Larry David in saying things that make people regret talking to you.
This remains one of the funniest and most brilliant segments from that show. That he would write such awkward situations for himself... the man is a genius, with no shame! Whenever Wanda shows up, you know Larry is in trouble.
How they are not on their knees howling with laughter is beyond comprehension. 4 or 5 of the best lines of the entire series packed into one scene. Piss my pants every time I come back to this gem.

I took it to mean he said something in between I. E. I'd know that big ass anywhere. And then Larry softened it and Wanda harshened it in their tellings.
Oh please. Greeting your neighbor by commenting about their bum is not normal. Larry is right many times in a weird sort of way but this is definitely not it.

How Cheryl turns this into about how he likes big asses is just genius. This show's secret is how relatable these situations are to our lives and what we've experienced in different context.
The secret is that they retroscript - so they have an idea for the plot and the lines and actions are improvised. It feels a lot more organic and relatable.
Unfortunately the newest season feels harder to relate to, like Larry was just lecturing. There were a couple good episodes like the Klansmen one and the Japanese restaurant, but outside of that it’s been meh.
Cheryl Hines is weirdly hot. She looks like her jaw unhinges like a python so she can consume prey whole, but I can't help but find her super attractive.
It is true about us men, when we like a woman's ass, it does indeed get imprinted on our brains. More than any other part of the female anatomy I think, probably because when we're checking one out we're behind the woman, so we can enjoy it at our leisure it without getting caught. As opposed to say, a woman's breasts, which you have to be a little subtle about, since the woman is looking right at you as you're admiring them. A quick look, then you turn away. As Seinfeld said, "like looking at the sun". I remember one incident many years ago. I was working repairing copy machines, and at one of the accounts there was a young woman named Donna who was in charge of the copy machine who had an absolutely amazing behind. All the techs at our company used to comment on it. One day, I was in New York City, seeing a Broadway show with my then girlfriend, when I saw a girl with an amazing ass in the lobby during intermission. As I was admiring this woman's ass I thought to myself, "what a nice ass, it looks just like Donna's". The woman turned around and sure enough, it was her. Now bear in mind, I live in Boston, so I had no reason to expect to see this woman in NYC. But I had so admired her ass that I had every subtle curve committed to memory.
Cheryl is the perfect partner for Larry. Not too delicate, romantic, rational, or smart, but gives a great sense of domesticity to Larry. All the daily quarrels that don't lead to "social awkwardness" like it is in the outside world, all the "annoying" questions that are kind of smothering but show partner cares as well. Sometimes you like the feeling of being defeated by someone that loves you.
Ahhh, but that’s not the only possible outcome! Larry *perceived* it as an attack on his character. Seems to me that Cheryl was not attacking him, but trying to roll with it. Asking him to tell her about her ass! She said (paraphrase) “so you like big asses, how’s my ass, do you dig my big ass” and wanted to hear “yeah it’s big, and yeah I like it”. And then there’s Wanda, and why would she come over if she were truly offended by his comment? To the trained eye, his unwillingness to cop to the fetish, or at least to play as if he had the fetish, means he just missed out on banging the two of them together.
At 2:58 Wanda is wanting him to blurt it out: “something about my ass is stored in your memory”… the two women are looking at him, imagining his ass fetish.
It’s just so outrageous and demonizing of something normal. Like saying Larry David has a woman fetish because he likes woman, there is just so much bias shown just in the framing of the accusation… that’s why it’s funny to me anyway
I saw this clip before I watched the show and thought it was hilarious. After seeing this episode and hearing the conversation Larry has with Jeff in a previous scene, it makes this scene 1000 times funnier.
