Platini was a real leader on the pitch with an extraordinary vision of the game. Zidane most special skill is ball control. Platini and Juninho are the free kick GOATs, with different ball weights.

He was so great, just thinking about the fact he is the best passer ever and at the same time in his prime he was always the top scorer in every competition he played is absolutely stunning.. people underestimate him just because he was not super fast as other playes as Maradona, Zico and so on but his technical and tattical abilities were out of this world.. i put him after:

He definitely was not a better passer than Zico man... Platini is unreal but hell no, he's not better than Garrincha, Ronaldo (R9), Romario, Di Stefano or Beckembauer in my opinion. He's for me talent wise right aroun the top 10, in the class of other genuioses like CR7, Zico, Van Basten, Ronaldinho, Laudrup... to be fair he was by far the second best player in the 80s overall, it's just that when Zico was in his prime he was better than Platini and then after 83 with the injuries Platini was the best player in the world but only for like 1 year coz Maradona and Van Basten quickly emerged
@@Luckymag-if4dw i totally respect your opinion but I disagree especially about CR7, he was not a genius.. he was an amazing goal scorer with the abilty of freestyle (stepovers and all the other tricks) and not else.. about Zico he is probably my favorite player because of his dribbling abilty second only to Maradona and Messi in my opinion and yes Zico was complete, but in my opinion Platini had a superior vision, a superior positioning, a superior finishing, a superior composure and a superior passing skills.. that's what I think based about what i see
@@lulygrem9357 I agree CR7 is not a genius in terms if instincts compared to those other guys, but I can't deny his accomplishments and feats so I put him in that group. I mean, in regards to Zico maybe Platini was as good a finisher as he actually has a great record and was a bit bigger and played a bit closer to the box than Zico, but in terms of passing and vision man there's no comparison, Zico similar to Messi and Maradona being so much more agile allowed him to go and initiate plays from his own half not every once and a while but lots of times through the matches. Platini's dribbling and close control were obviously great but by the standarts we are talking about they do lack in comparison and in terms of passing Zico is in my opinion beyond even Messi. I mean, watching any full match from him between 77 and 83 I can't see Platini or any other midfielder in that level of composure, awareness and IQ. The only one I could put ahead would be Cruyff, even though they had different styles both were equally as efective, perhaps Zico was a bit more of a genius but Cruyff mixing his instincts and even superior dribbling and speed might have made him a bit better. That's why I always considered Cruyff the greatest european footballer ever, he was similar to Zico, Pelé, Maradona and Messi in the sense they were players that had the instincts and geniality of Laudrup, Rivelino, Platini, Zidane or Dinho but also had the pace, agility and speed to operated like a dribbling monster. But I mean, watching Zico for example in the 81 intercontinental cup against Liverpool is probably the single greatest performance I ever saw of a player without scoring a goal alongside Messi in the 5-0 against Real Madrid in 2010/11. But I get your point Platini was a genius, it's just that I always felt he wasn't as good as Maradona and Zico, which doesn't mean he isn't a 95/100, it's just htose guys were about 98
@@Luckymag-if4dw yes Platini was not so dynamic but personally i think his technical and tattical abilities were divine and that's the reason why Platini was less dribbler than Maradona and Zico.. speed and agiliy are so useful to make you a great dribbler and Platini weak points were right speed and agility.. however if someone would ask me to build a team around one player to create a winning team would probably be Platini his 9 goals in 5 matches in 1984 Euros talk about his size when he was in his prime.. while for the pure show i would choose Zico and Maradona, but Platini was so concrete and effective.. he was deadly
@@lulygrem9357 I agree on Platini's quality but my point is the other two especially Zico were just as concrete and clinical while having that agility and dribbling advantage. That's why I would put him third, but he's everything you just said in my opinion better than Zidane for example (who was a genius so we know how good Platini is to be better than that). It's just that those other 2 players also were incredibly technical and smart while having that other advantage. Although in my opinion Maradona for all the genius was the "less smart" of the 3 you gotta pick him due to just how naturally gifted he was and how he could impact the game, but Zico in my opinion was smarter even than Platini in hos positioning and making the team go while having more technical ability. He was the perfect mix between Plantini and Maradona, even at set pieces as well. Really probably the only thing he was worse than the othwr two was his endurance as he did play longer but had a lot more injuries through seasons than the other 2. Platini at his prime was a model os consistency. I just don't think really any other midfielder can be compared individually ti Zico. Had the genius technical aspect of a Ronaldinho or Laudrup plus the IQ and production of Platini and Rivaldo. In the same way I believe Henry is incredibly underrated so are Platini and Zico, there really wasn't a gap between then and Maradona back then, in fact up until the injury in 83 Zico was considered universally the best player in the world since 78 and Platini took the crown until 86. For all his talent Maradona everyine knew how great he was it was after the 85/86 season he really separared himself and it was aided by the fact the other 2 were finishing their careers. Don't get me wrong, I would pick Maradona first, it's just that people talk as if it was like Pelé in the 60s or Messi in the 2010s, there wasn't this gap really and by the early 90s Van Basten, Baggio and Romario were already the best

Platini was doing the same thing as Zidane and at the same level, in addition to scoring three times as many goals. He's the greatest goalscoring midifielder ever as well as one of the absolute greatest playmakers ever.
No, he could not keep the ball under pressure and drible like zidane. Zidane role was between xavi and iniesta basically zidane was not a striker he was not playing in the box , platini was. Stats shows nothing, iniesta and xavi have shitty goal stats because they were not in the box a lot just like zidane. Zidane didn't go into the box a lot he was used like iniesta . Zidane was way better than platini not even comparable

Just look at an entire game of him like this one : ruclips.net/video/IpnsuU4xAtM/видео.html The difference between him and Zidane is that he picked the opposite defensive line way more often, thus creating way more goalscoring opportunities for himself. He had a more vertical game, alternating between a very deep, Pirlo like position to a false 9 position. But his 'average' position is similar to Zidane's. Zidane liked to roam more on the flanks than Platini did though. Zidane kept more the ball and he dribbled more indeed, whereas Platini's game was more direct. Both were extraordinary playmakers despite their differencies. Platini may very well be the greatest long-range passer ever.
@@chanmaliechanmalie8893 Zidane was better at his best level he was more useful for the team and i agree that zidane could have score more goals , Zidane used to stay outside of the box too often because he had in mind to assist rather than being the finisher , for france he played more in the box. If you are a coach you take zidane since zidane will score if you tell him to go more in the box or to go in finishing positions more .

Stats tells nothing , if you try to shoot or score by yourself anytime you get the ball you will score more while wasting lots of occasions for your team so your team will score less . With zidane you score more than with platini .

its such a shame what he became, but as a player I loved watching him. He was brilliant and perhaps not mentioned enough when we talk about players from the past. I think Cruyff had stopped playing by the time Platin in his prime so for a short time he may have been the best player in the world.
