  • I grew up with a deep love for soul food. There's nothing quite like crispy fried chicken, gravy over mashed potatoes, and a warm biscuit! But growing up in an African household meant eating what was available, not necessarily what we craved. My mother never went out of her way to make soul food, and we didn’t even bother asking because we knew it was a no-go. So, I had to wait for those special occasions when we ate out, got a school lunch version, or when I eventually got a job and could buy it myself. No matter how long the wait, it was always worth it.
Today, I’m diving into a new territory of country-style cooking that I wasn’t introduced to as a kid. We’re making chicken fried steak with country gravy! Plus, we’ll whip up some mashed potatoes and asparagus on the side. Each dish has its own special recipe, which I’ll share with you along with the main entrée.
So, let's get started and whip up a taste of country !

Hey another thing i noticed: when you’re talking about doing something like “Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and thyme” or “set the oven…” or “place the potatoes in a large pot with 1 tbsp of salt…” the camera should match up with what youre saying. So when you say set the oven, show yourself setting the oven. Or when say place the potatoes in a large pot, show us that you’re placing them in a large pot and then adding the salt ya know? I know it requires more editing and planning and stuff, but the end result will be so much easier to follow along with because the audience gets those visual cues to go along with the directions you’re giving.

@@JoshuaBonny-Cooks Yea i mean the recipe looked like it turned out super good so you obviously know what you’re doing. The instructions were all clearly spoken too, but i think the very final step that you needed was just that editing stuff

@@JoshuaBonny-Cooks Awesome i dont have instagram or facebook or anything, but i might still check out those recipes. Honestly the best editing tips come from watching other successful people and taking notes. Like Joshua Weissman. He kinda overedits some things, but his cuts for when he’s actually making the food and putting everything together are super satisfying

@@JoshuaBonny-CooksAnd trust me, I’m not just talking out of my butt here. This is my actual RUclips account (i dont really use it for personal use, so thats why i have the separate account lol). But this is all stuff that I’m still researching and learning too. And the best editing techniques I’ve learned have come from watching other people who are in similar niches as me. My videos are about video games, so i watch popular video game youtubers to learn. But like i said for you, definitely check out like Joshua Weissman, Ethan Chlebowski, or Cooking with Babish. All super successful, so they know what works
