Tuomas wrote this song for Floor. It's about her and her life with hannes and freja. I love this song:). You should listen to the accoustic version it's amazing.
Finally we are here. This is my favorite because I am a simple old softy. I get always a little emotial with this. The message is so beautiful (kindness, caring and Love). If I understand correct the rope means hanging rope and blade means hate. Burn them and come with us. The second verse is inspired by Floor. The acoustic live version is more intimate and emotional and therefore maybe a little bit better. Thank you, Elvann.
I see destroying the rope & the blade as a way to say 'don't do it'. The dance being life, dance some more - hang in there. To be mindful of those that are suffering (drowning) and how simply asking how they are can help and let people know they're cared about.
I love how Tuomas personalised it with the verse about Floor, Hannes and Freja. He obviously respects what she's brought to the band, and wanted to show that. I also think including his own wife on the album shows that Tuomas is in a good place emotionally, although his troubles have spawned some of Nightwish's most powerful songs.
no knock on Floor's vocals or Troy's playing but the acoustic version is not for me, it is too stripped back. It is ok to listen to. If they kept the oboe or whatever other stringed instrument is used in this version it would have worked better for me as I find the guitar too harsh.
@@mnewm21 I´m with you. Yes it is very intens - but Floor does not get the most out of either the song or her own voice in the acoustic version - and the guitar playing is not that good (sorry to say). All of it works so much better on the studio version.

Such a beautiful song... Tuomas wrote some lines in this song for Floor, like "We met where the cliff greets the sea" (about Hannes and Floor) and "Now there's one who came from me. A child of light, another tale" (about Floors daughter Freja). The emotion really shows in Floor's voice when she sings it, especially in the acoustic version.. Loved the reaction, as always

I am not a musician/singer but have always loved how intriguing music theory/structure is...probably the math nerd in me...and you describe these things very well. I agree that Floor is challenged a lot in this album...not by super high belts or “show off” type vocals but the precision and attention to detail to stay on time/pitch and still deliver the feel/emotion of the song is crazy. This has become probably my second favorite song on this album behind Pan. The acoustic version with just her and Troy I like even better. Stay safe.
Very interesting analysis of this song from their last album! You're doing a great job! Even if I'm not a professional musician, it's really helpful the way you are explaining all the details. Thank you, my dear! 😘
You really should listen to the acoustic version of this that Floor & Troy did for Planet Rock. As to this making Floor an even better singer, I imagine something like this: Everyone: "Wow, Floor can sing absolutely anything...." Probably I`m not the first, but you have to listen to acoustic version of this. Live Floor vocals... that was something, she`s nailed all the difficult lines
MY FAVORITE ❤️ Having navigated some very emotionally and mentally dark places, this speaks to me. Compassion and love can be in such short supply and can heal so deeply. Showing some for family, friends, and strangers benefits everyone 😊 Look at the lyrics and there’s a definite link to Élan 😉 Also, I keep learning new vocabulary: paean noun Save Word To save this word, you'll need to log in. Log In pae·an | \ ˈpē-ən \ Definition of paean 1 : a joyous song or hymn of praise, tribute, thanksgiving, or triumph unite their voices in a great paean to liberty - Edward Sackville-West 2 : a work that praises or honors its subject : ENCOMIUM, TRIBUTE wrote a paean to the queen on her 50th birthday Thanks for my favorite reaction to my favorite song from the album 😎🤘
Another great reaction. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to the live acoustic version. Floor's vocal performance in that one is mind blowing. Floor uses a bit more cord closure and bit lower of a larynx position pretty much everywhere in the song relative to the album version, and the live performance also captures a bunch of little nuances in her vocal that I can't make out in the album version.
Again a lovely reaction/ analyse lol am waiting till you sing one of those songs lol ...i already felt in love with Angels fall first .. sorry couldn't help it .. and yes you should listen to the acoustic version of this song of Floor ( as if you didn't did that already :) )
I didn't listen to the acoustic version yet because I want to also record a reaction! :D As for covering it, I'm actually thinking of doing that at some point! I'll see! 🥰
I saw so many bad reviews about this alb "its not metal, its not what it used to be" bla bla bla... Yes, its diffrrent. Its more, more than just metal. I love heavy brutal songs like Iced Earth - Dante's inferno etc... But this is beautiful art of music with deep touch. Still metal, still melodic, yet more beautiful than before. Some people simply can't understand or (dont want to) feel the music I think
I think what you're trying to say is that operatic vocals sound more grandiose and epic, whereas Floor's light vocals sound more personal and down to earth.
I was trying to find a way to describe the tone of mixed voice that's dominantly head. Added up to that it sounded light. It's just really hard to find words to describe tone very accurately, it's something you just hear, like describing what's the difference of tone between a trumpet and a violin is really hard to do in words XD
So while I'm seeing that Tuomas wrote some lines for Floor(about Floor) and stuff like that, before I knew that, I equated this song to acts of kindness, offering a hand to those in need. idk it's a base level interpretation but yeah it's a very beautiful song and I love it so much!
Love this track. I heard the acoustic version before this and was surprised by how good they both are, can't choose between them. Watch the video carefully. The 'steampunk' clockwork heart is beating in time with the song ...
"It's the Elan of this album". Definitely, though I feel its better as a track. I have no idea why this was not the second single. It also fits well into the album. A great ballad for the mid-set.
In this song ,Tuomas made a few lyrics specially for Floor (she told in an interview with Metal Talks on spotify ) open.spotify.com/playlist/5be5IDhTFpTj8AcQin6dMw?fbclid=IwAR1l5Ba4vJdu95Q9zPDfK1NCDfNrvzQ9-fmv09LiE0AQQToLJi8toA245dg listen to 'HOW ARE YOU DOING' there she tells about that. You are absolutely right. the lyrics were so difficult to sing that she started practicing this at home in Sweden (the hole album was a challenge for her ). Only when she was satisfied with this and after long practice did this become the result
Yeah, I agree with you dear Elvann, this is kind of the "Elan-song" on this album! Very melodic, catchy, a little folk sound, and Floors vocal are so lightly shining like a sparkling water on a spring meadow:-) I love it, and I also love your reaction and analysis, can't wait for the next:-)
Hello Elvann. Another cool reaction. When you said pop, I thought about it when the chorus came on. It is the second most common song on the album, the next is the first (worth the lyrics) but Tribal you should listen to last, it is the most different, not from the album, but from the band's career.
I'm not a musical theorist, but I think what you were trying to capture regarding head-voice vs. opera,, is that when she goes into that light head-voice she still has huge reserves of power, which gives it resonance most other singers can't hope to match. Most Western pop singers, male or female, sound squeaky when they use head voice.
Great reaction/analysis, as usual. Thank you. Because only 15 or 16 people so far already told you to react to the amazing acoustic version, here I am, telling you to (please) react to the acoustic version on Planet Rock...😊 Yup, this song being the "Élan" of this record was the first thing that came to my mind. Sounds like single material, so kudos to Tuomas/Nightwish for not choosing the cheesy/likeable/heartwarming/catchy song as the first single and choosing "Noise" instead.
This song is definitely really good, and I enjoy it a lot, but after hearing the acoustic version I wonder what it would've sounded like if it was written as more of a celtic/turn loose the mermaids type feel. It has a tavern/celtic feel so I feel like this would be a perfect match for turn loose the mermaids.
A lot of the lines hit me on a personal level, so this one was a bittersweet listen, but I agree, the folksy undertone helped the song overall in conveying its message (which was part of what you said, I believe).
hi there i knew you would love it, the acoustic version is even better. Tuomas wrote the song also for Floor how she deals with her being a mother, how she met Hannes a.s.o. he told that in an interview, and Floor was very touched as she heard it .... i am convinced that in this vid. you see Hannes with his long lion hair, together with Floor and Frya.... have a nice day and stay safe, grts from the dutch cheesehead in Germany
Being an Atheist i have always disliked the religious argument for charity because it comes with evangelism. I have never seem that sentiment worded better than the lyric "An act of kindness without an Amen" Perfect. I love your reactions and reviews of Nightwish and Floor coming from someone who is a real fan. Your expertise is much appreciated, Thank you
For me, this song has the same style as Elan and Storytime. Some kinda popish sound that I enjoy a lot. Also, the acoustice version is worth watching. Troy and Floor outstand themselves.
@@ElvannReacts hello again, I have now listened your free song, I can assure you, that with that kind of performance there is no need to be scared to share, even though I perfectly realize how scary it is to share, I've played to audiences myself too when I was younger (I used to play violin). I like your clean voice and preciseness. I always respect musicians who are doing clean job, and you definitely are nailing it! :)
I am definitely looking forward to hear more of your music so I encourage you to do more! I would also like to hear the evil sound of you (in a form of a scream or similar), in a more heavy song, perhaps you could try writing a song with more dynamics! I am also very surprised that you live in Finland! What a coincidence, because I am finnish (living in Turku region). That NEVER crossed my mind when I first started looking at your videos, I always thought you are on the other side of the ocean :). May I ask, in which part of Finland do you live and how did you end up here anyway? You are most welcome to stay here! Thanks again for great content! Best regards, Juho
I think what you may have been trying to articulate about the difference between head and operatic voices may be that operatic has more resonance and depth to the tone? Pure head voice generally sounds thinner and more fragile with less force behind it. It's like... head voice is two dimensional, while operatic is 3D.
This song will replace "I Want my Tears Back" in the set. It gives Troy a pipe song and some vocals. Many of the lyrics, especially the second verse are about Floor and her family.
Why is it that Tuomas can write with more complex English than a native speaker can, I'm always trying to look up words he uses "Paean" a "song of praise or triumph" apparently, own up who knew that before looking it up?
You and me both, I went to old fashioned Grammar School between '51 and '68 but Tuomas is a master of English and Finnish too, even his interview responses are measured, articulate and meaningful.
The Poet and the Pendulum: "On the shore we sat and hoped Under the same pale moon Whose guiding light chose you Chose you all" How's The Heart ?: "We met where the cliff greets the sea Shared a story, took the leap Rose up rooted, hid a note You know where You've been there" Is this the same person or experience ?
In the poet and the pendulum it is about how they were together as a band, and it was destined to be that way ("guiding light (...) chose you all"). It also shows how close they were, because you don't sit with random people on the shore in the night. In this song it is about Floor and her husband Hannes. I don't know their story, but everyone is fairly sure it's about that. I get that you think that it would be the same person, because it has similarities in the lyrics. In Élan there is also a line about a cliff that greets the sea, and that is also about Floor.

Thanks for my favorite reaction to my favorite song from the album 😎🤘
As for covering it, I'm actually thinking of doing that at some point! I'll see!
@@ElvannReacts Just sing it for us next time.
@@ElvannReacts maybee try to use something like 70% head etc but kinda sound weird that way to
I Absolutely love this Song. For Me It’s the Best Nightwish Song ever! It gives Me so much joy and happiness. Can’t stop listening to it.
A beautiful song about compassion, great reaction Elvann. I would love hear a cover of this I think that would be great.
So while I'm seeing that Tuomas wrote some lines for Floor(about Floor) and stuff like that, before I knew that, I equated this song to acts of kindness, offering a hand to those in need. idk it's a base level interpretation but yeah it's a very beautiful song and I love it so much!
@Elvann Congrats on hitting 10K subs well deserved
Thank you once again good reaction! This song is very beautiful and catchy, noticing that I hear it in my head most often from this album songs...!
Yeahee same here!! It's really sticking in my head super long after I listened!
this song reminds me of My Walden, its got the same homely theme mixed with the gloooorious celtic parts :)
Love this track. I heard the acoustic version before this and was surprised by how good they both are, can't choose between them.
Watch the video carefully. The 'steampunk' clockwork heart is beating in time with the song ...
Absolutely right; How's the Heart is the Ever Dream/Nemo/Amarath/I Want my Tears Back/Elan of this album... :-)
this one has been growing on me
I love this song and the live version is awesome to.
Great reactions, I love them
"It's the Elan of this album".
Only when she was satisfied with this and after long practice did this become the result
this song is wondeeful tank you for your reaction
Yeah, I agree with you dear Elvann, this is kind of the "Elan-song" on this album! Very melodic, catchy, a little folk sound, and Floors vocal are so lightly shining like a sparkling water on a spring meadow:-) I love it, and I also love your reaction and analysis, can't wait for the next:-)
Oh, and I almost forgot, congratulations to 10k subs!! That's awesome, and in my opinion you deserve also 100k! Let's work on it:-)❤
love the content keep up the hard work
Hello Elvann. Another cool reaction.
When you said pop, I thought about it when the chorus came on. It is the second most common song on the album, the next is the first (worth the lyrics) but Tribal you should listen to last, it is the most different, not from the album, but from the band's career.
It's hard to explain? , no it isn't. Floor is amazing! That's it :) Thank you for this great reaction.
the acoustic version is the best the best!! for sure!
This one is growing on me. I kind of overlooked it on first album listen.
Ie, the word you are looking for is Resonance. She has it even in her lightest voice.
Your idea about Nightwish's variety is the same as mine with Dream Theater :)
I got what I was hoping for is an understatement
🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘 Such a great song with a great message!!! I LOVE it!!!! 🤘🤘
There's a full line set in this song that ties directly to Èlan!!! Have fun!!! Stay safe!!! ❤️😊
Such a well written and sung song, one of may favourites along with èlan
It has a really similar feel to it!
@@ElvannReacts "we met where the cliff greets the sea", very similar to èlan "meet me where the cliff greets the sea"
There is an acoustic version of this, sooo beautiful, please react to it as well.
Yess! I will a bit after this series is done!!
Exactly, I'm still wondering if it's them... Actually it really seems it is !!
Your expertise is much appreciated, Thank you
Ohh, I missed that. Nice observation.
Amazing! my album has not yet arrived.
Elvann please react to the acoustic versión please! 💕✨🖤
And just the fact that the part after the second chorus sounds like a Heart(the guitar) :)
Please listen to Korpiklaani if you like Folk Metal! For instance "Henkselipoika"
For me, this song has the same style as Elan and Storytime. Some kinda popish sound that I enjoy a lot. Also, the acoustice version is worth watching. Troy and Floor outstand themselves.
should check out the live acoustic version Floor and Troy did for the radio.
Hey Elvann just dropped in to say hello and tell you that I like these videos, keep em up :)
hello! :D Thanks so much! 😎 Seeing you again probably tomorrow!
@@ElvannReacts hello again,
I have now listened your free song, I can assure you, that with that kind of performance there is no need to be scared to share, even though I perfectly realize how scary it is to share, I've played to audiences myself too when I was younger (I used to play violin).
Best regards,
Juho
Elvann: Translating sounds into words is not the easiest thing...
Me: aren’t words sounds? 🤔😂
There is already acoustic version of this one :)
new sub love from sweden ;D
wait until you hear tribal, the arena crasher attn stadium engineers make sure the structures are sound !
I think what you may have been trying to articulate about the difference between head and operatic voices may be that operatic has more resonance and depth to the tone? Pure head voice generally sounds thinner and more fragile with less force behind it. It's like... head voice is two dimensional, while operatic is 3D.
Check out the live acoustic version of the song

This song will replace "I Want my Tears Back" in the set. It gives Troy a pipe song and some vocals. Many of the lyrics, especially the second verse are about Floor and her family.
Is that Marko singing in the bass register? Another string to his bow, if so.
Its Troy
@@curwennapier5404 Ah, OK, thanks. I thought I could hear Troy in the tenor slot, that's all.
like pouring water
how did it happen that you didn’t make the reaction to Stabat Mater Dolorosa? by Simone Simons and Floor Jansen
There are also he as vocals in this song. Can you hear it?
Will you react to disc 2 of the album?
No, I don't plan on doing Disk 2!
Opera Rock. From Spain please. React to Camilo Sesto: Getsemani ( live 1977 ).
The Poet and the Pendulum:
"On the shore we sat and hoped
Under the same pale moon
Whose guiding light chose you
Chose you all"
How's The Heart ?:
"We met where the cliff greets the sea
Shared a story, took the leap
Rose up rooted, hid a note
You know where
You've been there"
Is this the same person or experience ?
In the poet and the pendulum it is about how they were together as a band, and it was destined to be that way ("guiding light (...) chose you all"). It also shows how close they were, because you don't sit with random people on the shore in the night.
In this song it is about Floor and her husband Hannes. I don't know their story, but everyone is fairly sure it's about that.
I get that you think that it would be the same person, because it has similarities in the lyrics. In Élan there is also a line about a cliff that greets the sea, and that is also about Floor.
Similar to Elan? Well... you know where, you've been there!
Hola desde España, Please can you react to CRISTINA RAMOS, SHOW MUST GO ON AT GOT TALENT, I LOVE HER VOICE, SHE SING OPERA, ROCK, HARD ROCK, METAL..... AND CHANGE VERY EASY ROCK TO OPERA, IS THE SPANISH FLOOR JANSEN FOR ME, IN GOT TALENT CHINA WAS BRUTAL!!!!!! THANK YOU
Album hidden gem... thought most of the songs were kinda mediocre tbh but I love this one
Mediocre? 🤦😱
@@ChrisPage68 thought alot of the songs were lacking that special magical feeling...
Best drums and guitar work the band has ever recorded. It already proves that there is nothing mediocre. It is not an opinion is what the compositions say. I will not talk about musical taste, each person has one.
wonder how this sounds life at stage...
Love your reactions ! Please React to Stargazers from Tampere 2015
I plan to do so at some point!
Elvann, you repeated that you like modern music (urgh!), do you have any love for early modern stuff, with clavichords and all that good stuff?
I do like it too, but french impressionism is calling for my heart in a really special way ❤️
@@ElvannReacts Well, probably because I love this little song, RUclips showed me a metal band recording with a clavichord and a theorbo (wtf). Here, 2 minutes: ruclips.net/video/zuu5_tO1EG8/видео.html

You say that as if Pan wasn’t catchy! ... or Noise ... or Harvest ... or Music! 😂
