If we would have had Todd last season we definitely would have made the playoffs!.. 😊 I'm happy that the boys are seemingly starting to find their legs and confidence
Three games in and Holl and Chariot already looking at a little different. I like it. Also, love the team getting Larkin that goal at the end of the game.
Veleno looks quite solid in that top line, good pace and skating and his passing looks more like what was hopped. Brings a good element with razor and larks
Agreed...I have always liked Veleno, he also brings size and strength to the line. I wonder if he will be like a Martin Lapointe, a top scorer in junior who reconfigured his game to stay in the NHL....good stuff
I agree, I'm really hoping it unlocks a new level to Veleno. Feel like the dude has been giving it all, has some talent, and it just hasn't been working out in his favor at all.
But wait .. didn't you notice almost half way through the first period that the Pens had no SOG??? I was taking repeated looks to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me.
@@TheParadoxDestroyer amazing what happens when you put a coach with experience and one with expectations. Todd holds the boys accountable and demands them to be better. I think they have responded! #lgrw
Yeah I haven't watched Red Wings hockey in like 2 months now and now I'm going to make it a point to watch next game.. I just had to make sure that they were for real..
Happy New Year, awood! Hope the Wings will keep you busy in the second half of the season with the new coach in place. Wishing you all the best and may you always find better than you seek.
That ENG was proof that this team is once again an actual team. Ray wouid've 100% made that shot just to make sure they win the game, but instead he seen Larkin next to him and let him score to break his goal drought.
@@TheVlad1616 Remember Seider came into the league day one and was making calm decisions in his own zone like a 10yr veteran, literally could not be knocked over as well as put up very solid offensive numbers for a defenceman in the NHL let alone a rookie. I think he had a nice mix of both Edvinsson and Sandin-Pellikka. This horrible stretch of play the team has had Seider has not been taking shifts off in fact he's showed he understands that accountability starts with him and the example he's chosen to set. That's captain material right there. And no knocks on Edvinsson but he is going to take more time to look more comfortable back there but honestly Seider being able to do that right away Is not the norm. Whoever turns out 'better' is a good problm to have, especially with ASP coming soon. Holy shit Red Wings hockey is going to be fun as hell to watch when he gets here
The way seider kicks his leg out into shooting lanes is so unique to me and in the crease, would love to see a compilation of him acting like a second goaltender, there’s gotta be enough clips of him it happens almost every night
Early in the broadcast, they mentioned that over a long career, Malkin has never failed to score at least one point in any game he played in Detroit, either in Joe Louis Arena or in Little Caesars Arena. Great job of jinxing it! Like Jimmy Carter, that streak lasted a ridiculously long time, but didn't quite make it into 2025!
I know its early but I really felt that Veleno has a chance to excel but just needs a good coach to see his potential and slot him with the right pairing. He looks good on the first line with his pace and believe he will really shine brighter as he builds confidence along the way. Hope he can prove to the naysayers and show them why he was granted exceptional status. LGRW
I don't think that he will ever be the superstar that you might expect from someone who got exceptional player status as a 15-year-old, but he is still proving himself a valuable player. What really impresses me about him is his versatility. He can play any role in any of the twelve forward positions, and while he might not be as good as the regular player in some of them, he is at least good enough in each of them to not slow down the entire line. Stanley Cup contenders need to have a few players like that, because there will inevitably be key injuries at key times in a long playoff run.
@@jeremykraenzlein5975 Veleno's speed and forechecking are an asset on the first line. It makes another line more potent as there is more talent balance. The same appears to be true for the defense by putting Edvinsson on the second pair. My main concern is whether the team is trying to highlight Veleno for a trade later in the year.
@@TheParadoxDestroyer that's what everyone is saying, preparing to ship him out. If it really happens (sadly), hopefully we are able to fleece a desperate team.
Amazing what getting back to basics can do. To top it off the new line combinations are paying off. These last 2 games is detroit playing hockey again. Kudos and let's keep driving!
Good to see Rasmussen finally sacrificing his big body to play physical. He can be frustrating to watch when he floats and avoids contact. Looks like the Wings found their testosterone finally.
That third goal was such a great moment. The whole arena singing blink-182, then a great rebound goal. So good. That's how Hockey Town should be every night. Good to see the fans getting back into it even if it's only been two good games.
Copp has to bury that chance with under 10 minutes left. I give him credit for at least being more or less ready for the no look and receiving it successfully in tight traffic, but you have to shoot it hard, with or without lift. You can't let it dribble weakly off the stick there. Goalie may have been beaten even with just an instantaneous hard shot low. I was very encouraged by the win but that was one of 2 moments that seemed to me moments where when a corner is truly turned, it will go differently. The first one was that power play goal to tie it up. When the corner is turned, Pitt won't score there. And when the corner is turned, a situation and chance like that Andrew Copp will put in past the goalie.
Red Wings beat the Penguins and Team USA beats Canada 4-1 in Ottawa with Trey Augustine having a great game. Things are looking up Detroit. LGRW and Go Green.
This kind of game shows how much Bergy is valuable his skill set with the puck his vision top notch even his shot now ! Guys who don't want Berggren on this team clearly hate good hockey. Kid is Gold
now that this team has a new coach and system you can already tell the difference in just 2 games! lol 🤷♂️flying out there now the cage has been opened their just getting started on a new chapter moving forwards! 🤷♂️💪👍
20 years of watching hockey and I still couldn’t tell you what is and isn’t goalie interference, pens second goal player has his whole body weight on Lyon
Look...love the Lions....but I agree....it's gotta be a little demoralizing...I get it last year but this year time to give some attention to the team out there....Lar-kin..... Lar-kin
if they win the Super Bowl, they are going to be chanting his name for the rest of time lol. At least it appears to have replaced the endless wooing. If I had to pick between 2-3 Goff chants per game or non stop wooing for 15 minutes (which I've experienced in person), I'm taking the chants.
Him and Raymond have had strange years statistically. Larkin had 9 goals the first 13 games, then 3 more the next 8, and none since (until last night). Raymond had 1 goal the first 15 games, now 14 in 22 since. Both were still putting up 10+ assists each during the scoring droughts. Those things tend to even themselves out over time and that's what has happened here. Meanwhile, DeBrincat who had similar hot/cold streaks last year, has been pretty consistent the entire season. Hasn't had a goal drought longer than 5 games, and hasn't gone longer than 3 games without a point. I expect all 3 players to still hit the 30-goal mark.
Was the O’Connor second goal not even a potential look at for goalie interference seemed like he was barely touched and then purposely took a dive right into Lyon
I know its only 2 games, but we look and feel different. I love it.
Its such a dramatic change that i thing we can say its the coaching change with confidence.
This is a win streak

Crank it up, baby.

I think in 3 years, Mo will be our 3rd best D-man. I the Ed and ASP are way better skaters than him.
For real. It feels like we’ve been conservatively tough for years now.

Lyon got away with 2 wraparounds that should have been goals. gotta clean that up
his weakness is over-committing yeah, thankfully Ned's glove hand high is still just as bad as when he played for us.
I think Lyon had a poor game. He just wasn't sharp in his reads and he seemed to react late a fair amount.
