It's insane that a modding community has to put out a Multiplayer PVP Star Wars game because a multi-billion dollar AAA developer won't do it.

Blasters in Star Wars don't fire light. They fire plasma bolts, so there is actually a recoil to them.
They do emit light, but its not a laser beam. The light you see is simply because the material is so extremely hot that it radiates light, similar to a star.

There is recoil because it shoots out energy at a high velocity. The plasma bolts themselves are near-massless but will recoil just from the sheer energy needed to fire it.

Our new favorite way of describing a jetpack trooper/droid's role... the "vertical inquisition". 10/10 for both that comment and the great video! Hopefully some jetpack QoL/smoothness to come in the future for more great flanks.

Shift + 0 hotkey for jetpack seems insanely awkward, but he makes it look smooth! Gonna give this a go myself at some point
Highly recommend this mod if anybody is on the fence, the amount of work put in is astounding... there are like 18-19 separate maps, tons of layers for said maps, so many classes, it's just amazing. After experiencing the mod I would honestly buy it for $20-30 if not more.

they used republic commando droid audio at many instances and I couldnt be happier

This reminds me of how much I loved (and still do) the Battlefronts on the original Xbox. I'd get this game just for this mod.

After playing Project Reality for many years and then eventually learning about and playing Squad I found it failed at being a successor to Project Reality but this mod has shown that Squads mechanics was truly made for a star wars game.
Honestly Galactic Contention plays so much better than base Squad

I been playing this for like a month now and it is easily the best Star Wars true war experience I’ve been yearning for since battlefront 1 2004

The playerbase for Squad was already hilarious like that, and then the players for this mod are just the overlapping section of the venn diagram for Squad players and Star Wars nerds... love it. So, so fun on top of the actual gameplay.

The only thing i really wish that GC had is droidicas
Droidekas had limited battlefield use canonically, they were mostly used for defending ships and installations. They wouldn’t really be used in big battles like this

one good thing they should do is maybe add a health discrepancy between the 2 faction and one side to compensate for the clones just sticking out and having a bigger hit box, same with the different types of droids.

This is awesome gameplay. If I ever decide to get Squad I might only play this. That jetpack is kinda crazy. It was a super fast recharge time, I would think in a Mil Sim like squad it would be longer but still manageable

Would be cool if you guys add in more variants of the factions, clone troopers were the minority of soldiers in the war...it would be cool to see the local defense armies on some maps, and maybe non-droid separatists

I'm not astonished from that gameplay, rather the amazing map design!
Of course giant open areas that seem open but actually feel pretty fair in terms of visibility is nice, but i'm mostly talking about the neat things, like how going up the cliffs as a jetpack user uses almost all of your charge, like it was made for it (It probably is!) Too short, and jetpacks will have excess mobility to get up to them and wreck havoc the moment they get up there, or too big and making it extremely difficult to get there in the first place!

14:40 It's not a hit box issue Drew. Squad pays attention to Sight over Bore. It's why your crosshairs are on target but the barrel of the weapon is lower than that and you end up hitting the ledge instead. Found out I have to be more aware of the end of my barrel in Squad a long time ago.
I think he means the hitbox of the mountain. Looks a bit wonky.
I think that blasters are plasma casters not laser rifles, but it is still a tad odd having that much recoil on them :P
It's not odd...for one, it's the gas being expelled that causes the recoil, and secondly...even if somehow it wasn't accurate, it's there for game purposes as they actually wanted weapons to be hard to aim to change up how you play this mod vs how you play normal Squad. Harder to control weapons gives a more cinematic feel, and encourages suppression and mass wave attacks that model how combat is portrayed in Star Wars!
@@tevarinvagabond1192 Frankly, more games in the genre of squad\HLL etc should do similar. Every single damn rifleman being a cool rock-steady deadshot just isn't fun nor really that realistic.

@@MartinTraXAA I think making the accuracy of a non ballistic weapon a little lower is probably the better route. I also think with the gas generation and expulsion there should be some recoil, just not as much for "realism". As a game I don't mind though

to be honest its kinda unfair bcs the clones are white armored in the middle of red environment, where the droids are more perfectly colored for it, with how Drew having a hard time looked the friendlies coming in
I mean, that's pretty realistic. It's actually easier for the clones in this mod because in Geonosis the droids were painted dark brown in order to better blend in with the desert terrain. Here, they are painted their standard beige color.

This looks amazing. It looks like those clone troopers have a severe camouflage disadvantage in their white armour though, the droids are quite hard to spot at a distance :D
On many maps clones have their camouflage
The high recoil on the E-5 was just because it was a cheaply made blaster, it used a certain cheap gas that, unlike the DC-15's, wasn't exactly expelled properly

@ 15:25 um akthually ☝️🤓 the guns in star wars shoot superheated plasma, not light. So there is a physical projectile that would have some degree of recoil realistically speaking

@@onerxowns2202 pretty sure they’re one the special kits; equivalent to the heavy antitank kit or the marksman class in regular squad. Also idk if I remember correctly but limited to a few per game, so not every squad can have one
