- In this video, Singer Chitra talks about her first meeting with A R Rahman. At that time, he was assisting Ilayaraja. Chitra thought that how this small boy can play keyboard. Later, when she went for singing Roja songs, she remembered that that small boy is now the music director. She also acknowledges A R Rahman for crediting all musicians in the music cover.
Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra, often credited as K. S. Chithra or simply Chithra, is an Indian playback singer from Kerala. Chithra also sings Indian classical, devotional, and popular music. She has sung more than 25,000 Songs n a number of Indian languages such as Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tulu, Urdu, Sanskrit and Badaga as well as Foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese and English. Chithra is a recipient of six National Film Awards(Most by any Female Singer in India), eight Filmfare Awards South nd 35 different state film awards. She has won all the four south Indian state film awards.[11] She was honored with India's civilian honor Padma Shri in 2005. She is the first Indian woman who was honored by House Of Commons, British Parliament, United Kingdom. She is the only singer from India who was honored by the Government of China at the Qinghai International Music and Water Festival. She is the only South Indian female singer who has presented her maiden concert at the world's prestigious concert hall Royal Albert Hall in London. Her song "Kannalane/Kehna Hi Kya" from the film Bombay (1995) was included in The Guardian's "1000 Songs Everyone Must Hear" list.

I felt Ilayaraja has been a very important part in what rahman is today. Having worked with the Legend for more than 500 films itself is like being in a college for 10 years. Rahman would have learnt lot of things in that 500 movies which has made him what he is today. If he'd not worked with raja for 10 years, i doubt very much whether Rahman would have been the same person he was in 1991. Rahman never gave any credit to Raja for that. Never seen him. Even in Raja's programme, Raja revealed that he has worked with him in more than 500 films. In fact, Rahman could have mentioned about Ilayaraja in his oscar speech and thanked him. Raja is the teacher and Rahman is his student. No need to compare. Both are legends. Their music style is totally different.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to incorporate 100+ names in a small cassette cover's rear side, cassettes which sold for humble Rs. 10-25 those days! There are movies IR has used 200+ musicians for a single album like Thalapathi, Hey Ram, Guru, Kaalapani etc. It is EASIER to name a few for namesake. WHO KNOWS all those now? NONSENSE. People like Suresh Peters, Sivamani etc. became somewhat known, because of their interviews on 90s Cable TV. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do it for 1000+ movies (it needs a BOOKLET for every cassette then, which would increase the cost of the cassettes!). Also, CREATIVE inputs needs to be given for composers who use it! It is NOT required for composers like IR where every note is his.

So, IR is the RAREST of the genius in music. He is ALSO the most critically acclaimed composer in INDIA. Period.

These people donotu understand the difference between an notation based orchestrated and jamming. Every single note payed in raaja sir composition is from his imagination. Where as Mr ARR does not work that way, I wil give you an example. In movie DUet, he engaged kadri gopalnath. Al that was not ARR sir's notes. ARR wud play the main melody and few intelude patterns, based on which Mr Gopalnath developed the harmony. That's how it worked. So it's ideal, right thing to put Mr kadri's name. But again he cud have got away with it by not putting his name, it shows he wants to credit the contributor. That's how whether it's Suresh peters or I forgot the other person name. But during those days that was the global trend. But namba para'atnamnu nenacha yedha venalum panuvom. Like say, husband to wife, Nala velai inaiki idly'ku chutney aracha, super. Idhula yena perima, idly'ku chutney vekarathu....apadi'than. but ARR is a maverick, of course one in a 100 million. But Meastro is one in a 100 billion
