Got one yesterday - mainly for our camper which the generator went bad on us. Also will run power tools on a farm which has no power. Havent used it yet and I know nothing about them.
Just got the Predator 4000 (non inverter and a bit louder) yesterday for use at home during power outages and to run a table saw that always trips my outside circuit. Thanks for the video. It's good to see what they can do.
Harbor Freight is kind of hit and miss, but i am having good luck with my generator. I think it is all about taking care of it with regular maintenance...
a BIT louder? LOL. Have you heard these inverter gens in person? You can stand right next to it and carry on a conversation without ever having to raise your voice.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video! I’ve watched quite a few on this model. I’m putting together a truck camper this summer (8’ bed and an A.R.E. topper), and like you, I’m in the sweltering Florida heat. HAVE to install an AC in there somewhere, and since it’s such a tiny space that I’m cooling, I’m gonna use a tiny 5k window unit that I’ll temporarily mount through the cap window when I get to my campsite. So I’m thinking about getting the next inverter Predator model down (2000 I think, can’t remember), just to run the AC and microwave. All of my other needs are rechargeables, like lights. I gotta assume the lower model can handle this, and although I would like to go for the 3000/3500 to be safe and to use for home backup purposes (hurricaneland in South Florida!), I’ve read that the weight on it is a mother. I’m a little guy, and an old fart, and don’t know if I can handle it. But your videos and others have shown me how good these gens are, especially with proper maintenance and compared to the costs of Honda and others.
The only issue I have had with this generator is the governor spring coming off. Rough roads probably led to this issue. It was an easy fix but we did spend a very hot night in the camper with no AC. All in all it is well worth the money. Good quiet power.
Perfect, perfect. This is exactly the information I was looking for. Although I was somewhat curious as to what the microwave would do on the amps, this video still took care of all of my concerns about purchasing the Predator 3500 for RV camping off grid. Thank you so much.
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Ahhh. Thank you very much. I might use the microwave once a day, so that's a good bit of information. I'll remember that when I need to turn it on to heat something up or just make sure the AC isn't running.
Good video. All I had was problems with mine. It ran just fine in the cooler weather. My unit is on the back of my Expediter Van on a swing arm. It ran my 13,500 AC unit on top of the van just fine when I installed it in SC in December. Ran it a few times running my Espar heater. It worked great. But...…… like everyone said, will it stand up to the Laredo Texas heat!!! Well, I went down to Laredo. Started up the generator, kicked the ac unit on, and layed down. I didn't lay down for long. The generator kept overloading. This is after the first oil and spark plug change. I tried everything to keep it running. I went to RUclips and watched a video about taking the oil fill door off because the unit was starving for air. I took it off, it helped some, but would still overload. I ended up taking the whole side cover off so it could get as much air as it needed. It was loud, and it would still overload. I cannot always park the van so that the sun is not on the generator. Being in the shade helps, but it still overloads. I can't have that problem down in Texas. I need reliability. Another driver bought a newer one after I bought mine. He is having the same problems. I took mine back, went and bought a 3000IS Honda generator. It never misses a beat. Been to Laredo several times, start up the generator even while in direct sunlight, kick on the ac unit and it purrs like a kitten!!! No problems at all. I think Harbor Freight is headed in the right direction with these generators, but I think they still need some more tweaking done to them. I certainly hope yours keeps working good for you. I'm going to put a soft start on my ac unit and I will be able to run the Honda generator on ECO mode running the AC. Keep up the videos on this generator. I would like to see how it's working out for you. Thanks!!!
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for the video series on this generator. I've been shopping for generators large enough to run my AC for a while now and been having a tough time deciding on one. I also have a 15k unit and it's nice to see videos showing it start up a 15k unit, gives me some assurance it will do it. I've run the numbers and it all looks good on paper... But I've had gennies look good on paper before fail to start things they should be able to. Your video helped me make up my mind, thanks!
I recently purchased a toy hauler, 30 a.m., just want to make sure I do this correctly, start the generator first, then start flipping on the breakers for AC refrigerator things like that do not I have everything turned on and try starting the generator correct?
I know someone who has two HF, a 6.500 watt and a smaller one. The small one maybe around the 2000 watts? But it is super quiet, can't hardly hear it. He is really impressed with them for the price. Yea, but you didn't show it charging your phone?? Thanks for sharing.
HF makes some good stuff and some not so good stuff lol. These are actually a clone of a more expensive generator and are of very good quality. Like anything else if you take care of it there should be no problems. I totally forgot to show me charging my phone, next time....
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival nice to know, yet in Canada, it is all about heat, heat, heat in the winter. I am a bit less worried, thanks to your personal experience, knowing that it will run more than two or three items
Both TV and lights are pretty low wattage, no challenge at all for this generator. Heaters do draw a lot, but many space heaters can still be run for 1500 watts or so.
Looks like enough generator to do the work. Quiet enough as well. Inverter is the way to go if it is true sine wave to run any electronics. Thank you for the video, Matt
Yep. True sine wave. Inverter generators are the way to go! After Hurricane Harvey I was sitting in my living room playing Xbox, watching movies and charging my laptop off that generator.... all while running an AC window unit to keep me cool and powering the fridge. This generator probably won't have the longevity of a Honda, but it is damn good for right now.
Wow. Keep thinking about this. Your videos are great. I just want to run a shed. TV VCR, 5000 air conditioner, ceramic space heater, couple LEDs, microwave. Oh, fan. Not all at the same time. Maybe I should just get the 2,000 predator. I was adding up the Watts. I just like this big thing, I like that it's quiet and even quieter than the 2000 I guess. Huh?
Thank You...great video!!!! I got a Predator 3500 several months ago to boondock with my camper (similar size as yours/15K BTU AC) as well. I haven't really put it to the test YET! But you just did, and answered all my questions. Also gave me an excellent idea on what to expect on gas consumption! Must also say, excellent video production. Very much appreciated!!!! I subscribed and liked!
I just bought a 3200 to 4000 peak generator and plugged the Tralier cord into the generator, turned on cooler and ran 3 mins then tripped breaker on generator and shut off cooler any info greatly appreciated.
That's harbor freight for ya. They have quality products, but abysmal quality control. So it's a flip of the coin. And NEVER buy open box from Harbor Freight. One store sold me an open box gen they claimed was a floor model. I got it home, pulled it out of the box and SAND poured out the bottom like an hour glass. Needless to say it went right back, I gave the manager that lied to me a few choice words and drove across town to another harbor freight where I got the one I have today.
I read so much about the Predator 3500 losing the Multifunctional Indicating Meter and not being able to get replacement parts. I see for years people have ordered this part and being told (on backorder). I’ve never seen any response that anyone has received this part. What’s you take on this and to get around this?
So firing up your AC by itself is fine. Then going and turning all those other things on after its at the "run" AC level may be misleading? What happens when the AC reaches the desired temperature and shuts off. Then when it has to kick back on again would you overload the unit if all those other things were still on or would you have to shut everything down before that AC unit kicks back on again.
Thanks for this video. So this should be able to power a winch on a truck? or is it overkill and I should consider the smaller version (2000W) ? Thanks in advance for your advice.
@@TC-tw5zk Yes. Most important: change the oil often. Manual says run for 20 hrs then change it, but I changed mine at 4, 8 then 20 hrs and am glad I did. Lots of metal specs in the first change at 4hrs. Use regular oil, not synthetic during the break in. I changed the plug at 20 hrs also but this is not mandatory. Mine runs like a champ, yours should also. Watch the spark arrestor during break in, it may clog. If it does just clean it and continue. Let me know how it goes...
I actually live in my 32 ft. In 110 degree weather And seems like I am going thru gas very rapidly, I'm getting maybe 8 hours of AC on 5 gallons. Does that seem about right? $20. for 2-3 hours in three days?!
Hey FloridaBoy Surival, I watched your video's and was impressed with the Predator video's. been looking at them for a while Got and add from Harbor Frieght and the 3500 predator was on sale for $689.00. I took the bait. LOL. This thing is so quiet. Can't believe it. Going to hook up my camper and check it out. Bit the manual said only use 75% while in breaking time. Sure Think I will enjoy this one. Honda is way out of my price range. Though not knocking Honda. Just to exspensive ffor me. LOL
Break it in for 25 hrs first before you load it up. Run it with about a 30% load during the break in. Take out the spark arrestor and change the plug at 25 hrs. Change the oil at least 3 times during break in. Then this thing will really surprise you....it is just as good as a Honda
Of course you can build it up, but the biggest question is will it handle the surge cycling of the AC Compressor / Fridge on a heavy load.... might pop the breaker. Really would like to find someone who has one and putting the unit on a resistive load (ceramic heaters) and see if its really rated at 3KW
Search youtube, somebody has already done it...pretty impressive. The guy uses a bank of halogen lights and can switch them on one at a time or all at once and he takes it beyond it's capacity until it trips. I was surprised how long it ran in overloaded state before tripping.
Just to let you know I contacted harbor freight technical support and he said that was pretty much normal for it to run for 15 to 20 seconds after shutdown after running under load other people experience the same thing
Good day sir, very good test and explanation, i am planning to buy a genarator when i will be back home in tha philippines, and i already computed the watts of all appliances in home its just 2500 watts, and i will buy a POWER HOUSE PWH-4500 watts enegize series ,so this one will be good sir.whats opinion sir?
Nice video. Always informative. My only concerns are parts for repair. How Easy Is It To Get Parts to repair When Needed and where do you buy them? Thanks
Thanks! This is really the exact same unit as the Northern Tool Powerhorse, theirs is just blue. You should be able to get parts from Northern Tool if needed
Thanks for the response but I should have been more specific. To store for a long time without use do you run it out of gas, empty the gas, or do something else so it is ready quickly. Thanks

@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Well I just watched you 25 hr. oil change and there is no mention of how or what procedure you used to brake in your new generator.

@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvivalSorry, I guess I’m not asking the proper question? I understand the serving, but what kind of loads, for how many hours, that sort of thing, etc. for a proper break in? Thanks
Good solid review of this model. I'm looking into using this for a small mobile detailing setup. Do you think this would run an ryobi 1600 electric pressure and say a vacuum or occasionally a polisher if I have too? Not all at the same time of course
Great video man . Question .... I know this would probably void warranty but , could it be hard wired to start from the inside of my Class A and pull gas from my tank with let’s say a marine bulb primer or the proper electrical 12v pump ?. I do know they make a barbed brass fitting that goes into a gas cap and hooks up to a 3/8” fuel hose.
Thx for info...silly question but looking to be a first time owner of an inverter generator....is it safe for use in all weather conditions? Rain snow etc. Thx
What are your thoughts on running 2 of the predator 2000 in parallel vs. The predator 3500. Fuel efficiency, noise, etc... my thoughts are running my camper but if I wanted to use just one predator 2000 for something else it would be more portable. Also together would produce 200 more watts than the predator 3500.
I thought about that also. All you need is the parallel kit and you are set. You would have a little more power but you would have to deal with two units. Either way I think it works well...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I'm on the fence with the idea. I would assume the noise level would double and not sure about the fuel comparison. Thanks so much for the review on the 3500 and for responding. I look forward to watching more of your videos
What I don’t understand is, I just bought this unit everyone said it was fine fir rv. But folks said the ac needs 30 amps. But ur video didn’t show the ac taking in 30 amps from the generator
Right. The A/C does not need a continuous 30 amps to run, it just needs enough capacity to cover the "spike" in amps when the compressor starts. After that it pulls about 12 amps continuously. The Predator 3500 will start it and run it just fine...
@@mcleod55 My error, I read your comment wrong. In the last hurricane I was running a full sized fridge, window fan, 42" TV and a couple of lights with power to spare. At night I ran a 6k BTU window unit to cool my bedroom with no issues.
Thanks!. Either one would have maxed out the generator which is why I did not turn them on. In order to run the micro and/or the water heater you would have to turn off a few items but it would definitely run it.
That meter is measuring volt amps, not watts. VA is apparent power. Anything with an inductor or capacitance load will not have a power factor of 1.0 which is a pure resistive load. For example, a 9w LED light will show 13VA. Refrigerator uses an induction motor with a likely power factor of 0.7 .
I’m looking for something to use at for storm/power outages. Just running a refrigerator, tv, possibly a lamp or two. Don’t have much knowledge about generators and I’ve been seeing that electronics need an inverter because of surges and uneven power flow. Is that the case or would I be ok with a regular generator and some some surge protector strips?
Electronics do not need an inverter because of surges, they need an inverter because of the type of power they put out. A regular loud contractor generator puts out modified sine wave power and an inverter puts out true sine wave power, which is what our present day electronics need and like. The compressor on the fridge and the TV will thank you for the inverter, but if you are just running lights and fans you can easily get by with a regular generator. Surge protector strips would accomplish nothing in this regard.
The nice part about inverter generators is they can be run in parallel. I use the Westinghouse parallel cord to pair up my Westinghouse igen2500 with my Aldi Workzone 2000. Together, they output 3800 watts of continuous power.
There are a few websites that give approximate watt usage for different appliances. Regular generator is ok. You are going to plug appliances directly into the generator. If quiet is a must, get an invertor like his. If you want the most watts for your money get a regular generator.
Where in Florida are you? I am in North Florida and thinking about getting one for my RV that I have parked out on my property. My main concern is running my A/C (14,000 btu) a fridge, water heater and the charger for the battery (inverter not converter by the way). Around my area (Keystone Heights near Jacksonville/Gainsville) we experience temps in the 90's with high humidity so the A/C will be running quite a bit. I can run the fridge and water heater off of propane, but being able to run them at the same time would be a plus.
I am in the Melbourne area, but I went to school at UF so I know exactly where you are. As you can see this one ran my 15k btu a/c, some lights, fridge, and TV with no problems at all. If you can use shade and stagger your a/c usage I think that this unit will do just fine.
Awesome thanks for the video. I’m wondering if it would be better to get 2 of the smaller 2000watt gens instead? Price would be about $100 difference I think.

We need it mainly for the meds and foods that we didn't want to lose..and will shut off for some hours during the day if we can bear it..! Going to add up my wattage..!
Thanks! It is a great unit. If you search you should be able to find a super coupon online for another $49 off...
Got one yesterday - mainly for our camper which the generator went bad on us. Also will run power tools on a farm which has no power. Havent used it yet and I know nothing about them.
Break it in the right way and it should last a long time...
Cool. I think the 2000 would run a 5k unit, just check the 5k unit to see how many watts it uses.
Thanks for that review of the 3500 predictor generator. Made my DECISION, thanks
No problem! Change the oil during break in then change the plug at 25 hrs, you will be amazed how good it can run...
I have a predator 3,000 watts but one of the fuel hose pop out but I don't no were it goes can any one give me a tip were it goes
The only issue I have had with this generator is the governor spring coming off. Rough roads probably led to this issue. It was an easy fix but we did spend a very hot night in the camper with no AC. All in all it is well worth the money. Good quiet power.
I am glad that it was a minor problem. Mine is still running like a champ
Perfect, perfect. This is exactly the information I was looking for. Although I was somewhat curious as to what the microwave would do on the amps, this video still took care of all of my concerns about purchasing the Predator 3500 for RV camping off grid. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful! The micro would have tripped it so you have to turn something off to run it
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Ahhh. Thank you very much. I might use the microwave once a day, so that's a good bit of information. I'll remember that when I need to turn it on to heat something up or just make sure the AC isn't running.
amazing demo real-time working, brilliant piece of kit, and brilliant work by yourself, thanks for that.
Thanks! It will run almost the entire RV at once
Thanks!!!
Thanks! I will be doing ongoing reports. I have not had that problem...yet...in the Florida heat. Mine is operating just fine...so far.
Thanks! Mine is still going strong. It will definitely start your 15k a/c...and cycle it with other stuff running
nice man, harbor freight does it again..i really gotta get me one.
This model is pretty good....
Exactly the video I was searching for! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
I recently purchased a toy hauler, 30 a.m., just want to make sure I do this correctly, start the generator first, then start flipping on the breakers for AC refrigerator things like that do not I have everything turned on and try starting the generator correct?
Right. Hook it up and start it, let it warm up for a minute, then carefully start flipping on breakers while monitoring the watts on the gen display
Was thinking of getting the regular 4k watt generator but this inverter one looks pretty legit! Probably get the 4k one first as it's cheaper.
This one is legit. Either one will work great...
Great for small equipment, but not so telling for home lights and electrical heaters, full size tv etc
Mine will run my lights and TV's just fine, as well as a few other things like the fridge
No problems. It is impressing me more and more every time I run it...
Thanks for the video man, I'm doing some research for my home power needs
No problem. any questions please let me know.
Great video. Thanks for your video.... People like myself look for great info like this to make a decision. You made my decision much easier...
Glad it was helpful!
Huh?
It would totally run all of those, most of them at the same time.
Thanks! Remember to change the oil RELIGIOUSLY on this unit and I think that it will last as long as any other...
Will is run ur hot water heater too with ac and lights and refrigerator and microwave??
Not with the microwave
So it wood fun every thank else if I unplug the microwave??
So I would run everything if I just unplugged my microwave
I may have missed it in the video, but do you have a soft start kit installed on your AC unit?
I do not
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival thank you for the reply! I just picked up a Jayco 264BH, and I’m thinking the 3500 will work for me
@@chopperbike69 My 5th wheel was 50 amp and it ran mine just fine

What size is the a/c? Obviously overloading the generator
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival its a coleman ac unit 60 hertz 16 ampers maximum
It'll also run a toaster oven to cook corn dogs during a hurricane 😂
Yes it will. I have a toaster oven....mmmm, corn dogs....
What is the best generator to run a house?
That is up to you and what you want to run...
Taking it back tomorrow harbor freight tech said something wrong with electrical hope next one works mine ran fine except for that issue
There are a few duds in there but when you get a good one it should perform perfectly...
I think that is just one of the risks that you have to accept with a Harbor Freight product...
I should have let the a/c cycle, and it will cycle the a/c even with other stuff on. However you definitely cannot run everything at once
Thanks for this video. So this should be able to power a winch on a truck? or is it overkill and I should consider the smaller version (2000W) ? Thanks in advance for your advice.
It depends on what the winch draws but it should be able to do it easily
Thanks for the video... it answered all my questions about if it would be enough to run my 5th wheel
No problems! Unless you have a GIGANTIC 5th wheel, you should have no problems at all...
No sir same as you 32 foot
what size of wire you are using with this 3500 watts egnset? thanks
At least 12g extension cord to handle the amps. 10g is better...
I'm going towards that Same generator... Weight Wise, what do you think? Hard to transport ?And sound levels during camping in RV?
This is just the thing for camping. It weighs around 90lbs but it is really not hard to transport. Sound level is crazy low...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival thank you..i just picked one up last week...going to break it in soon...any suggestions how you broke yours in?
@@TC-tw5zk Yes. Most important: change the oil often. Manual says run for 20 hrs then change it, but I changed mine at 4, 8 then 20 hrs and am glad I did. Lots of metal specs in the first change at 4hrs. Use regular oil, not synthetic during the break in. I changed the plug at 20 hrs also but this is not mandatory. Mine runs like a champ, yours should also. Watch the spark arrestor during break in, it may clog. If it does just clean it and continue. Let me know how it goes...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival thanks for the info..your the best!

Great review! I will likely buy this model in a few months for my home.
You could do a lot worse. I love mine, it is really a good piece of equipment...
I actually live in my 32 ft. In 110 degree weather And seems like I am going thru gas very rapidly, I'm getting maybe 8 hours of AC on 5 gallons. Does that seem about right? $20. for 2-3 hours in three days?!
Yep. The more load the less time it will run
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Thanks for the input wiil do this. That would be about 1200 watts for 30% load. ??? Correct or about 1150 watts..
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvivalThanks again for the tip.
Do you think it would run the water heater as well?
It will, just not everything at once...
Of course you can build it up, but the biggest question is will it handle the surge cycling of the AC Compressor / Fridge on a heavy load.... might pop the breaker. Really would like to find someone who has one and putting the unit on a resistive load (ceramic heaters) and see if its really rated at 3KW
If you want to run everything at the same time and still have the surge cycling you would want to go with a bigger generator
Yeah it would not appear to be an issue. I am going to check mine out again to see if it does the same thing...
Mine does this as well
How many hours can it run continuously? 24 hours? More?
GREAT VIDEO by the way!
Thanks. I run it easily 7-8 hours on one tank depending on what you are powering...

I have 2 15k ac's on my rv. Will it run both? Love your videos.
It might, but that is pushing it. It would probably not cycle both a/c units at the same time....

What is the best way to store the generator
I just store mine in the garage with a cover over it...
Thanks for the response but I should have been more specific. To store for a long time without use do you run it out of gas, empty the gas, or do something else so it is ready quickly. Thanks

When running AC, fridge and outlets….how long will the gas maintain?
about 6-8 hours
Great video man . Question .... I know this would probably void warranty but , could it be hard wired to start from the inside of my Class A and pull gas from my tank with let’s say a marine bulb primer or the proper electrical 12v pump ?. I do know they make a barbed brass fitting that goes into a gas cap and hooks up to a 3/8” fuel hose.
You could totally hard wire a remote start. There are some videos on making extended run tanks also but I never saw the need for one
Thx for info...silly question but looking to be a first time owner of an inverter generator....is it safe for use in all weather conditions? Rain snow etc. Thx
Absolutely. In rain or snow you may want to devise some sort of cover...

I am not sure. They are pregapped when you buy a new one. I am sure you can find the gap online somewhere...
Will this unit run a air compressor and nail guns?
It should do it with no problems
What I don’t understand is, I just bought this unit everyone said it was fine fir rv. But folks said the ac needs 30 amps. But ur video didn’t show the ac taking in 30 amps from the generator
Right. The A/C does not need a continuous 30 amps to run, it just needs enough capacity to cover the "spike" in amps when the compressor starts. After that it pulls about 12 amps continuously. The Predator 3500 will start it and run it just fine...
thanks great video,,,i bought this unit today,,want to back feed house to run a couple things,,any thoughts?

That meter is measuring volt amps, not watts. VA is apparent power. Anything with an inductor or capacitance load will not have a power factor of 1.0 which is a pure resistive load. For example, a 9w LED light will show 13VA. Refrigerator uses an induction motor with a likely power factor of 0.7 .
Yes, that is correct. VA is as close as I can get to the actual power without a meter...
Nice review
Thanks
@@mowcowbell Exactly. When you run them in parallel they work great...
You could totally do that, they have a parallel kit that you can buy to hook them together. They would be easier to move around that way...
Then you’d have two to service....
