  • We're Olivia and Nathan 👋🏽 Our first ever generator - The Predator 3500W Super Quiet Inverter 💥Unboxing, Start Up, Setup, Oil Change, Review | Is it Super Quiet?
    In this video we share with you our process of following the Predator's "Set-Up" guide.
    Unboxing it, starting it, breaking it in, changing the oil...and also answer one of Harbor Freight's most asked questions: is it in fact, SUPER QUIET?? Is it worth the price? How does the Predator 3500 compare to the Honda 300? Is it hard to do an oil change?
    NOTE: the Predator Generator comes with a "Owner’s Manual & Safety Instructions" and with a "Set-Up" guide card. For the initial Set-Up process, we followed that card. That card does not have the Electric Starter Battery Connection instructions on it. So we missed that in this video. But we connected it after and it's all good.
    We're new to the RV world - just purchased a used travel trailer and are touring the US for the next 12 months. We've spent weeks researching the best options for electricity, wifi, tools, products, and everything else people swear-by for the new RVer. 🤪 We considered solar but after more research it made sense for us to use a generator.
    We needed something that could run our AC (3000W) and most importantly, be quiet enough for campsites...as well as fit inside our budget! This was our choice (and so far we are SO happy with how it's performing!) Are two final choices were the "Champion 3500-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Portable Generator" and this "Predator 3500W Super Quiet Inverter" - we chose this one because it was cheaper by a few hundred dollars and we actually read more positive reviews about it.
    Over the next year we will also be providing updates on how well it's operating and if there's any maintenance needed.

    Thanks for watching! This was our first time ever buying/using a generator.
    NOTE: ELECTRIC STARTER - the Predator Generator comes with an "Owner’s Manual & Safety Instructions" booklet and with a "Set-Up" guide card (shown in the video). For the initial Set-Up process, we followed that card, as instructed by the Harbour Freight employee. That set-up card does not have the Electric Starter Battery Connection instructions on it (it's mentioned only in the manual). So we missed that in this video. But we connected it after and it's all good. (for any comments asking about the electric starter)
    We’ll give you an update in 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months on how this generator does! And if we missed anything please let us know. And don’t hesitate to hit us up in the comments if you have any other questions! 👍🏽

      Great to know about the Electric Start battery connection--- my wife and I just purchased this inverter generator today as the Northeast is preparing for Hurricane Henri. Really hoping we won't have to use it but better safe than sorry.

      ⚠️Please make sure you follow all the generator safety tips whenever you use your portable generator. This is just a reminder for your safety when using generators. All generator safety instructions need to be followed carefully.
      Here are the safety tips:
      1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Children often get curious about anything so we should keep an eye on them to also make sure they’re not wandering towards the generator.
      2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house.
      3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules.
      4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords.
      Hope this helps.

    ...few suggestions: First, do buy a bicycle chain and chain the inverter generator onto something solid before someone’s walks away with it in the middle of the night.
    Second, you really don’t need a fuel stabilizer if you’re using the gasoline whole. Fuel stabilizer is intended in case you want to save it for a long period of time such as 7 or 8 months or so. Possibly see if you can find marine gasoline for the inverter generator ( without ethanol).
    Third, change the oil periodically (specially when it was in use)
    Fourth: find a cover for it to use the generator while it rains. Wet generators are dangerous - water and electricity not the best friends!
    Fifth: kudos to the girl, she’s awesome! As a first timer she kept on going and never gave up👍 Keep up the good work and you’ll be a prepped yourself🤗 Thank you for the video👍

    To get the push to start to work there is an access panel on the front of the generator. The battery comes out of the box disconnected, you will have to open the access panel and connect the terminals to the battery so you can use the push starter. Great video all around!

  • @GNX157
    @GNX157 9 дней назад

    14:15, oil is checked without screwing the stick back in. At the start of the video it was done correctly. If you check it by screwing it in and also allowing the oil level to reach the lower part of the stick, you’ll actually be around 8oz low on oil.

    Great video of what it’s like being new at something and opening the box as you try to interpret sometimes poorly written instructions. I like that your video wasn’t overly scripted. One recommendation as I purchased the same generator yesterday. To use the electric start you must remove the battery cover and attach the battery. The instructions say hook up the red (positive) cable first. I’ve never done that with a car battery, but, I will follow Harbor Freight’s guidance. All the best and enjoy your journey!

      You always hook up the red (positive) cable first . The black (negative) cable is the ground cable; it is always connected to the frame or body metal and can safely be connected last or disconnected first with no chance of causing sparks.

    I believe you may have forgotten to connect your battery. In the future if you warm it up before draining the oil it will put some of metal and carbon in suspension and will also drain faster. If you mix the stabilizer with the gas in the can you only have to do it once and the gas in the can will last. Tipping engines all the way over is not a great idea as a rule. Great video lots energy and personality.

    If you’re going to be using it steadily, you can skip the stabilizer, unless you determine you might not use it for a month. I would suggest using Sta-bil 360 Marine ethanol treatment though.

    When you turn it to start your actually choking it which makes it very rich and that’s why it runs kind of rough. You can also started on run which does not turn on the choke and then run smoother when it’s warm. If you run it on start too long you will foul the spark plug.

    1. Just buy a 6dl oil bottle and you not need to mesure how much oil you adding.
    2. The auto start wont work the first time because the battery in it have not been used/charged.
    3. I have never heard or seen anyone change the oil after 8 hours. That have to be bro sience ? 😊 you not need to do this on a car or anyting that use oil imo.
    But again thanks for sharing. Fun to see how you both did this together 🙏

    Get a socket wrench with a 10mm socket and an extension for changing the oil. I may be mistaken, but it looked like when you put the oil plug back in the 1st time it looked like the washer was missing on the plug. It may have fallen off when you removed it the 1st time. Also, it’s better to put the generator on some kind of blocks to change the oil. Gives you room for the drain pan, removing and replacing the rubber bottom flange without tilting the generator on its side. Also look into buying a magnetic dip stick. It helps to collect metal shavings in the oil to protect engine life. Couldn’t help but laugh when you held the electric start button for 3 seconds without connecting the battery! Lol

    Hi guys, just a friendly fyi. You may have already figured this out but .. when the knob is in start position that activates the choke. This cuts the air flow almost completely off so the engine gets extra gas for the startup however, if it continues to run on choke mode it will file the spark plug and clog up the spark arrestor Etc. Also, I am no stranger to engine & equipment maintenance and rebuilds open to questions. Happy camping 😃

    I went back and watched the video again. You definitely lost the oil plug washer. When you held it up it was gone. It helps seal the oil plug and keeps it from vibrating loose. It more than likely fell into the oil but If your lucky, it might have fallen into the bottom tray inside your generator . Might want to check! 👍

    • @ONWorldTravel
      @ONWorldTravel  3 года назад

      oh wow. You mean there's a washer to the actual plug?? Or to the door that leads to the oil? We didn't even see a washer for the oil plug. Our door, however, has been falling off lol thanks so much for taking the time to watch and let us know

    • @rh6625
      @rh6625 3 года назад +1

      @@ONWorldTravel Most oil plugs have a soft metal washer (copper or brass) that goes over the threads and compresses when the bolt is tightened to the engine block (not the door but the actual 10mm oil plug that has the threads. The washer will prevent leaks. Also, make sure you tighten the plug sufficiently as a generator has a lot of vibration and a loosely tightened plug will vibrate off and dump all your oil ruining your engine. If you have to remove the plug with a wrench and screwdriver as a lever you should install it the same way.
