You would have rubbed shoulders with some huge stars Johnny! Was it recorded "virtually live", no edits or breaks (apart from ad breaks), with you announcing into the show live? So much of the show seems to be lost, we need to be grateful for what exists.
@@peteb1206 Pete, you are so right... I never realized at the time how fortunate I was to be with the biggest names in music, week after week. We taped the shows at NBC Rockefeller, NBC Brooklyn, and NBC Burbank....my voice over announcing was done live as well as it was my job to brief the audience before hand on who the guest would be . I also did my best to get em pumped up for the show with a run down on what they would be seeing. So fortunate to be part of musical history.PBS did a special on Hullabaloo a couple of years ago and I was the announcer for that baby as well.. check it out!!
@jhbabc1 I will seek it out, thanks Johnny. By the way are there any US voice over men of note who are not called Johnny?! (joking). I used to do TV voice overs here in Australia (regional) and it paid very well but it's extremely cut throat, and I admire anyone who can do it regularly and make a living out of it. I'm also extremely critical (of course) of anyone substandard but US VO guys have always been a cut above.
Johnny, it is wonderful you let us know. I was a teen and absolutely loved Hullabaloo. We only had about 5 channels then but I was blessed to get your broadcast… thank you for the wonderful music and memories….
I was a teenager in the 1960’s, remember all the shows, the girls all wanted the white gogo boots, the guys wanted the black pointed toe shoes. Funny to think back now.
Nahh, we wanted Beatle boots, not city slicker - "ethnic" uhhh "stompers" tryin' to be polite here.... It was all about Carnaby St. the US had nothing hip, nada.
I started college in 1970, and one of the instructors was a very attractive woman who wore a different pair of gogo boots every day. I couldn't tell you anything I learned in that class, but I never forgot the gogo boots!
My best friend, my sister and I used to go to the tapings of Hullabaloo all the time. The guard always let us in early, and we would watch all of the acts rehearse, and sometimes we would go to the cafeteria and have lunch with the different groups. 🎵🎵
I was a teenager in the mid-60s. What hullabaloo was out Northern California redwoods. And I remember the early Dick Clark's.. And the TV show where the action is. Survivor a good times. Lot close call.👍🤟✋🏻🌲😎🪶✋🏼
It's a great show. I wish it was in color and had more episodes. The Ed Sullivan Show had alot of live singing especially from solo singers it seemed. It was a great show. It also lasted about 23 years.
Hullabaloo, Where the Action Is, Shindig, and Bandstand. Those shows spawned The Midnight Special, Don Kirshners' Rock Concert, and Soul Train. Man, I miss those days!!!
This show is great. I like the artists and the choreographed dancing. I wish it was in color and had more episodes. I wished my family had another tv so I could have watched it as a kid back then.

Wow - this is LIVE not a lip-sync which was far more common because TV studios didn't bother with very expensive mix-boards. "We'll broadcast it on single-track tape because that's what most TVs have."
The cameraman couldn't take Keith Relf pretending to play the harmonica after _each line_ he sang, so he turned away after the first verse, never to return. Also, I need to find the full version of this so I can watch Patrick Adiarte freak out during the rave up at the end!
Love those Courreges dresses and white go-go boots!
What a great time I had as the announcer on Hullaballoo...It was an incredible 2 year run on NBC. Johnny Holliday
Now generations are having a great time discovering all these shows! I love it. You guys put on a great show...Thanks!!

very cool
I remember Hullabaloo and Shindig. The 60s were my teen years and it’s was really cool to see the musical stars of those years.
Shivaree was my favourite.
The great Chuck Berry singing and those girls can really shake.
"Today's music ain't got the same soul . . . "
I have been hearing that ever since Buddy Holly died.
...stated Bobby Seger...back in 78'. So Sadly ...True.
Dino Danelli of the Young Rascals was one of the best drummers ever! He passed away 2 months ago at 78.
He was great!
I thought he was great also. I saw him drumming, twirling and handling the drumsticks when the group was on the Ed Sullivan show.💯😎
Is it just me, or does this stuff sound better than the crap we're hearing now days?
Chuck and roll!

I ❤❤❤ Johnny Rivers
I forgot had handsome he was (is).
Good seeing Chuck Berry Yardbirds Johnny Rivers and Smokey of course!
A stage the size of a postage stamp presents its own set of challenges.
That dancing.. pure energy 👍🏽
Wow, so very rare that ALL these acts are performing live. Most tv shows were lip syncing to the record. I dig this

Remembering that show ❤ Oh yeah and those gogo boots 😂😂😂 I wanted a shimmy dress and to be a Go Go dancer...🤭😂
These are such great videos without the MC interruptions!

Paul Revere and the Raiders, hell yeah!!
Hullabaloo was a super 1966 television show that had excellent songs!!
I watched this show when I was a preteen and loved it.
I remember this music and Go Go dancing style back in the mid sixties. I thought it would always be that way , but music and fashion kept evolving.
This style lasted about 4 years at most, I always injoyed it!
@chriskneubuhl2557 I did too. I remember our pop TV show , female dancers doing the Go Go dance. It was very energetic.
I loved that show as well as were the action is😊
I always watched this show!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Paul Revere and the Raiders!! Chuck Berry and Smokey!!
I had completely forgot this show!!!! What a blast from the past!!!!!!!!!!
My all time favorite Hullabaloo show was the one with Rick Dalton.

YEAH I LIKE MY GENERATION ROCK N'ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Watched the show every week.
The music of my formative youth.
Will I had to leave town because of Uncle Sam's deal hahaha...
I used to watch this show too.
Love seeing Dino Danelli +++ Jeff Beck 🌟🌟 (r.i,p.)
Chuck Berry, the True King of Rock and Roll,
Absolutely agree.
How did the story get started that Elvis Presley was a rock n roller at all?

Those ladies in the cages sure got their aerobics points … maybe even anaerobic points.
I have the dvd with Sammy Davis Jr. hosting. Opening with the dancers, what a song and dance man, true entertainment

No Eddie, Felix, Dino or Gene, No Rascals. All those 45’s, all those years ago! We had the best music!
The Soul Survivors out of Philly always reminded me of The Rascals. Good times!
What I remember is that the acts on Hullabaloo usually sang live to a music track.
Thanks, I was wondering about that. It worked well; these folks were all great singers. Hearing Smokey live is a real treat.

I used to run home from school so not to miss Hullabaloo and Where the Action Is. And I had go-go boots, too.
The first time I saw Go-Go girls was at the Whiskey in downtown Hollywood . WHOA ! :O)
Never had a clue what Johnny Rivers looked like.
The last air date for Hulabaloo was 8-29-66 coincidentally the last time The Beatles played for a paying audience at Candlestick Park San Francisco.
And I had the pleasure of emceeing that last Beatles concert at Candlestick.. what a night that was!

Go Go dancers powered by black beauties and trucker's whites.
The dancers were great. The performers not so much.
