THE LOCKDOWN TRAVELLER PODCAST
Most people publish travel podcasts when they have completed extensive research, written up robust roadmaps, and actually visited the places they talk about. The Lockdown Traveller is the result of three blokes sitting at home during a global pandemic, mulling over their life choices and non-existent travel plans.
Join Ali, Zaki, and Zaeem at The Lockdown Traveller as we use the time in COVID-19 lockdown to (virtually) exhibit wanderlust; to create a list of all the places we want to travel to and visit when lockdown finally ends.

Watch Face Used in This Video:
I got the image from one of those Frankenstein monster memes, like this one: i.redd.it/8kmpp9nuj3f31.png
You just crop it to the bottom right panel and set that as your watch face Наука
Thank you for explaining the music controls. I ride a motorcycle and can't be looking or navigating a menu. Great video!
Thank you for watching! You should know that with the latest UI, the music controls have changed somewhat. You can see what they look like in this video: ruclips.net/video/t4PlBAUh2nM/видео.html
This is it --- it's like a Pebble reincarnation with watch hands (I dont' mind that).
I have been looking for a loooong time for smartwatch that can at least approximate the features of my Pebble watch.
The specific features I'm looking for are --
1) Date and time (obviously)
2) ability to control podcasts/audiobooks on my phone using physical buttons (not the touch screen ones that require hand-eye coordination and pecking on a tiny screen). The physical buttons allow you to control it without looking at the watch screen -- very handy when listening to podcasts while driving, exercising, or doing chores.
3) a battery that lasts at least 7 days per charge.
4) display notifications
Thank you for this in-depth review of the audio control features of the Fossil Hybrid HR, it's very helpful.
That's exactly why I decided to get this watch as well! It was the closest thing I could find to replace my Pebble. It's not a perfect replacement by any means, but it does what I need it to and it's always getting better with software updates.
Being able to control media without needing to tap the screen was a big factor that made me choose this watch over other hybrids and watches that only had one physical button. I didn't see any reviews talking about that feature so I made this video in case anyone else was interested in it as well. I'm glad you found it helpful!
Very informative, thanks bud!
Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful!
This is very very helpful, I'm going to buy this watch right now. Thanks for the very informative video
Glad it was helpful!
heyy, love your videos man!
can you also make a video on workout modes?? that would be great
That's a great idea! My schedule's pretty busy, but I'll see what I can do!
Thanks for the video. I guess I have some issues with my watch in this case as I don’t get volume control options while running RUclips.
Yeah, that's weird. I had the volume and media controls on every RUclips video I tried.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. Im very interested with this watch. May I know, do i need bring my phone together listening to the music while running? Thanks a lot 😊
Good question! Yes, you need to bring your phone with you when running to listen to music. You'd also need it if you want to track your route with your phone's GPS. The Hybrid HR doesn't store any music, it just lets you control the music playing on your phone.
Do you have to open the app on your phone prior to initiating the music controls feature on the HR? & if so, do you need to start the music (or whatever) first, also??
Great question! The Hybrid HR media controls usually work with whatever was last playing (if the app is still running in the background). If there's no media app running, the controls won't do anything until you start playing something on your phone.
It worked great with RUclips videos/music.....nobody else on RUclips even mentioned this feacture....thanks for the info. Also is there any way for the watch to notify me when my goals are reached....other watches lights up with a big congratulations when reached.
Great question! As far as I know, you don't get a notification when you reach your fitness goals. I've got Google Fit installed on my phone and that gives me notifications when I achieve my goals or daily step counter, but the Fossil app does not.
I've been watching a lot of your videos and they have been very helpful... I've just purchased mine and I'm waiting for it, but I have a question: Do you know if Deezer can be controled with the watch?
Thanks! I haven't used Deezer myself, but if the app is playing music, then you should be able to use the Hybrid HR to control it. What style did you buy?
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I've bought the black, but I'm planning on putting a light brown leather band. It's supposed to arrive on Tuesday 😊
Great choice! Hope you enjoy the watch!
HI. Thanks for your video's! I've read that there is a 'Take photo' feature that you can assign to one of the watch buttons, but I haven't found it yet. Did you?
Good question! The "Take Photo" feature seems to be available on other hybrids models (the ones that don't have a digital display) and smartwatches running Wear OS. As far as I know, this feature isn't available on the Hybrid HR. It would be nice to have that as a button shortcut, though!
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I thought so. Thanks for confirming!
Hi, great video! One question: Is it going to work with Apple Music and with ios media?
Unfortunately, I don't have an iOS device to test this with, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Maybe try asking people in the Fossil Hybrids subreddit (www.reddit.com/r/FossilHybrids). They may be able to help you out.
I wonder if you can help, in many other videos the music section where it shows the track title is in white, but mine is has a black background. Is there a way to get the track info section in white, it would be easier to read? Cheers!
I don't think my music screen has ever had a white background. It's always been white text on a black background like I've got in the video. Maybe the white background is what the UI looked like before Fossil updated it? Could you send me a link to one of the videos you saw where it was in white? I'd love to see how it looks.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I've played around with my watch and I see it does it when I pause the track. It then goes white background with black text. But reverts when it plays again, this is what i've been seeing. I wish it would stay white background when the track plays. Hopefully it can be done sometime.
I understand what you mean now! I thought you meant the whole background turns white so I was confused. My mistake!
The white background/black text part when the music is paused only looks like that because it's just the thing that's currently selected (it looks like at 0:14 in the video). If you pause your music and press the top button, you'll see that the home icon turns black with a white background because it's selected instead of the music track. So the effect is just to highlight whatever is currently selected.
That said, I agree that black text on a white background would be easier to read. Maybe they'll add it in a future update.
Is it possible to change the button functions so that a normal press skips back/forward instead of adjusting volume?
Great question! For now, we can't change what the buttons do. Maybe they'll let users choose button controls in a future update.
great reviews, mate, thanks! your 3 reviews on this watch is how reviews had to be done!
Is there a chance for You to do the notifications handling review? I am a long time Pebble user with difficulties finding the proper successor - but this might be the one. Not being 5ATM waterproof is a big downside for me, but if it handles the notifications the way Pebble did (all apps, dismissing ones on the phone by dismissing it on the watch, getting notifications when iphone is in the silent and vibration off mode...) I might try it...
Thanks! There have been many updates with the notification system since Fossil released the watch and it's much better than what it was a few months ago. My next video will be all about notifications, so I'll try to answer your questions!
@@ZaeemSiddiqui thanks!... please try to include live action of:
1. how long particular notification stays on display upon receiving
2. what happens when two or more notifications from the different or the same apps come
3. notification menu in depth (does it store notifications with the ability to browse through them later)
4. dismissing the notification that do dismiss it on the phone too
many questions, but would be heplful to many, I suppose...
thanks in advance...
Hello again! I just posted a detailed new video about notifications on the Hybrid HR! I hope it answers some of the questions you had! You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/-pyo3BsBRZ4/видео.html
Fossil put out a recent update and now my watch vibrates/sends notification everytime the song switches. I find this to be a nuisance and will use more battery. However, I have no idea how to get it to stop? Any suggestions? Thanks 😊
Great question! Have you tried opening the Fossil app on your phone and turning off notifications for your music app(s)?
7:05
Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well

Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. No doubt, no doubt, no doubt.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui noice, smort
What about tracking an activity and playing music at the same time? Does it give any issues or mess with the activity tracking while having the music control layout on the display?
Great question! I like to listen to music when I go for a walk. So I start the activity tracking, head back to the home screen, and then switch over to my music controls on the watch. Everything works perfectly (it'll continue tracking in the background). Then I just switch over to the activity tracking to tell it my walk is finished. No issues at all.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui Thanks for the reply!! By the way, absolutely amazing work on the reviews of this watch. I watched all of your videos on the thorough explanation of every other feature in detail!! Helped me a lot with my buying decision. Keep up the good work!!
Glad I could help! And thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Can you upload the link for the watch face please it looks too good:)
Sure thing! I don't have a link to the watch face itself, but I got the image from one of those Frankenstein monster memes, like this one: i.redd.it/8kmpp9nuj3f31.png
You just crop it to the bottom right panel and set that as your watch face.
Before controlling it from watch we have to select music app of our choice on phone, right?
Yes, you start playing music through whatever app you want on the phone, and then when you open Music Controls on the Hybrid HR, it will show you the controls for that media app. If you switch between different media apps, the Hybrid HR will only show controls for whatever is currently playing.
Do you have any problems when casting to another device? For me when I cast youtube to my TV play/pause and skip work perfectly but the volume controls don't change the volume on the TV (unlike the phones volume buttons which do control the TV)
That is a really good question! I just tried casting a RUclips video and you were right; play/pause and skip controls work fine but the volume controls don't do anything (they just change the volume on the phone). It was the same with Netflix and Prime Video.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui it's the same when I cast music to my hi fi. Do you know where the best place is leave feedback?
I'm not sure what the best place is to leave feedback, but if you tap the Profile tab in the Fossil app and then tap on Help, there are a few ways there to contact Fossil directly (email/live chat/call). Or you could leave a review/comment on their Google Play Store or Apple Store page.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I have opened a support ticket will let you know if I get anywhere!
Great. Thanks!
Does it work with Spotify standalone? I.e. Do I always need to have my phone with me?
Great question! You will always need your phone with you (or at least in Bluetooth range). The Hybrid HR just controls the media playing on your phone. There's no music stored/played on the watch itself.
Can you use AirPods or Bluetooth headphones while using the hr?
Absolutely! I use them with my Bluetooth headphones whenever I go for a walk. There's no lag or delay with the media controls.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui thank you so much
You try to give the video more brightness it will be great if you do
Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep it in mind for future videos.
Can i copy music to this watch and listen with TWS?
Hi, you can't copy any music to the watch. All it can do is control the music that's playing on your phone.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui Oh tks, a little bit disappointed, hope they make that in the next watch. For me, the selling point is that I can play music from my watch to TWS while running.
Yeah, it would be great if they added that feature in the next version. I think a lot of people would appreciate that and a built-in GPS so you wouldn't need your phone for fitness activities.
When's the new hybrid fossil coming out?? Should i wait
That's a good question! I honestly have no idea when/if a new version of the Hybrid HR will come out, so I don't know how long you'll have to wait. But I will say that the current one is getting decent updates from Fossil and it often goes on sale.
Your app has a WHAT'S NEW....check that from time to time and hit the three lines up in the corner that tells you the new version up dates and where to find them.....next version supposed to make font size adjustable to larger letters....I wish they would add something to reverse the black and whatever feature....I think reading black numbers on a white background would be easier to see.
Can I control Spotify on my phone, through the smartwatch?
Good question! I just checked and can confirm that it works!
@@ZaeemSiddiqui truly?? Can you help me set this up? I've hit a wall trying to get this to work. When I play Spotify on my phone, the hybrid hr does not show what is currently playing.
That's interesting. Have you tried restarting the phone and then trying it?
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I just restarted my phone, but no luck
@@ZaeemSiddiqui I figured it out! I had to re-map my "daily" watch face and move music control to another button. As soon as it was remapped everything started working: music control came up, notifications starting coming through, etc. Really strange!
I tried everything but I'm just not able to play music from my watch😥
That sucks! Did you try restarting the watch? You could also post your question in the Fossil Hybrids subreddit here: www.reddit.com/r/FossilHybrids
They might be able to help you out better than I can.
I don’t really get the point of this cuz most people that listen to music use headphones that can do the same functions as this watch and the people that don’t listen to music with their headphones, they usually have their phone out meaning they can just control the music from their phone
That's a fair point.
I usually run my headphones cable through my jacket so the cable doesn't get caught on anything when I'm walking around. That makes the headphone controller inconvenient to reach and it's just easier to use my watch to control audio.
Some of the newer in-ear wireless headphones don't have proper volume/media controls either because there's not much space for them. So the Hybrid HR controls can be useful in those situations as well.
If you're listening to music through your phone's speakers, but the phone is on charger and you're too lazy to get up, you could use your watch there too etc.
@@ZaeemSiddiqui Also I use bluetooth to my house hifi and in my shed. So I can skip songs, pause music etc without needing my phone. I don't always have my phone on me. I love it. I think this is the watch I've been looking for.
@Jay Dee That sounds great!
