- This is a look at the very first build of Toontown Rewritten. There is an obvious lack of Cogs, ToonTasks, and all of the other things that make the game great. These things and more have since been added, and are soon to be available for everyone to play in game!

Toontown Rewritten is a fan-made modified version of Disney's Toontown Online, created using publicly available downloads and information made freely available to the general public. Toontown Rewritten is not affiliated with The Walt Disney Company and/or the Disney Interactive Media Group (collectively referred to as "Disney"). Oh my goodness... It's been eight years since I last played this. I used to go over to my friend's house and start this game up every time because my parents cringed at the sheer thought of paying a monthly fee. You seriously have no idea how happy it makes me that y'all are offering this for free. I had a major nostalgia attack watching this and cannot wait to finally live my childhood dream of actually owning this.

What? Was Toontown taken down? How the heck did I not know this?
Well, I cant wait for this to be up. And, as a suggestion, Maybe you could add special events. For example, Apart from the cog Buildings and super shakers, Say like every 5 - 10 Minutes, an Npc would be seen fighting a cog saying "Help!" Or something. And as a reward, you get Jellybeans, Gags N Such.
That's a nice one. I like it.
Yeah, Because I always found that in the street, when I was training, I would tend to get low on the gags I was training. So, If you got given gags for doing this Side Mission, it would make it easier rather than going Back and forth to the Gag shop.

I remember playing this game ages ago…It's a shame it was closed, but this is looking pretty good.
Yeah it is kinda sad they closed it. Toontown and Wizard 101 were my childhood. I used to play them all the time. I don't think they say specificly why they closed it but you can assume since they released it in 2001 that they just either ran out of time to work on it, didn't need it, or they just need to work on other projects. DAMN I miss that game so much.

Alexander Monks I read the article on why they closed it, and they said it was to further their development on club penguin, as that was their most popular online game.
It was to move on to the development of the more popularly used game Club Penguin, AND they couldn't focus on Toontown Online because they did not have lost much money enough for the game to be unavailable. (couldn't be ran any further)
Oh My Goodness, I want to play. I was so sad when TTO closed. seeing that someone is remaking Toontown makes me cry with joy TuT

Since Disney still profits off characters like Mickey Mouse, they will have to be removed from district names and as NPCs.
None the less, Toontown Rewritten is going to be completely free, no membership, no micro transactions, nothing. I'll finally be able to fully appreciate my greatest childhood MMO.
It was funny, I had not been on Toontown in a while (like a couple years), and one day, I was just like, "I want to play Toontown for some reason." but I got it booted up, and it told me Toontown was shutting down. I got kinda depressed a little for a sec so it ruined my "Toontown Attitude". But today, I wanted to boot up Toontown and see what it would say. It would not boot up so I googled the website a saw Toontown Rewritten. And. it. was. glorious.
That is exactly what I tried to do, I quit in 2009 on my 81 laff toon then I just wanted to play then I found it was closing :( TTR looks loads better though.
I feel like crying. I am so thankful that someday we will be able to play Toontown again, thanks to you guys. This game was a huge part of my childhood and even up until college. Can't wait to play :)
Haha, when I was younger I would go to my friends house to play cuz my folks wouldn't pay the monthly amount. I created so many free accts and maxed em out at my house. My friend eventually gave me his acct password so that I could play at my home, too. Was so much fun! :)
I loved the original so much! Ah, the nostalgia also brings forth my Neopets, Club penguin and Disney days.

This is so exciting to be able to still enjoy the game we all grew up with! Even if I don't have my old account back, I think it's wonderful that this game will be free of charge and open to everyone :) This is wonderful!
I started playing Toontown when it released in 2003. I was eleven years old and I still have the collectors cards they sent out with newsletters back when I was in the fifth and sixth grade. Toontown was something I did with many childhood friends and I was still playing it until the day it closed. I was so upset because even I hadn't gotten to experience everything yet. I hadn't gotten to fight the CJ and CEO or experience maxing out toons with different missing gags. Toontown was just FUN. It was, in my opinion, SO MUCH BETTER than Club Penguin will ever be because of many reasons, but one in particular. Progression. You can't progress in club penguin. You don't have gags that you can work to level up, or tasks to complete and characters to customize and love. Thank you so much to those behind this! I was so, so excited to learn about Toontown rewritten and I can't wait to play and relive the fun again! My name is Kenzie, I'm 17 years old, and I'm Toon Enough.

If you guys are looking for a good estimate on how long it may or may not take to get the game out to beta... I'm estimating around February it will be out for beta. They are still working on TTC. And they still have to work on the cogs, and bosses. So.. we don't have to wait TOO long. But it will still take some time.

i'm 20 and i started playing toontown when it first opened in 2002. i am so sad it's gone especially since i played on the same toon all 11 years. i cannot wait for this!

I used to ply this non stop when I was 8 nd 9 . I tried playing it a year ago but it changed so much. Than I couldn't make new friends and it just reminded me I am the last one of my full list of friends who played it and it just brought back memories of when times were better

My god...Sweet jesus...Sorry. I used to play this game as a kid, I'm 17 now, still young but you know. I was first introduced to this game by my cousins around the time it first came out and I just fell in love with it. This game was literally the epitome of my childhood online experience. I have to say I was absolutely crushed when I read it was closing one day after many years of not playing (school, life, you know the drill). But, having found out about this amazing team of people who have put the time, effort, blood, sweat and tears (not to mention their own money) into this game just for the fun of it and just to help all those poor children out their like me who loved this game and now are crushed thanks to the corporate negligence of Disney. I really can't thank you guys (and gals I'm sure!) enough for doing this for us fans. You really are amazing. I don't have an Alpha key, but just from looking at this and reading the news, I can tell it will grow into what we all knew and loved and quite possibly a better one too!

I'm seriously joining Toontown Rewritten! From free membership to endless childhood fun, this is none to less the Toontown we have very waited for! I have before spent every day off or vacation playing Toontown but now that its closed, there hasn't been a game that has the equal intensity of fun that Toontown had! Until now that is, when this game becomes open, you'll see me there!
god when will toontown rewritten be open to everyone with out the beta keys? i mean i been waiting but i really want to play now! i hope some day anyone can get a chance to play it.

I've read rumors (not sure if they are true) saying that the beta will be released in the "summer time" May that be late May or August we'll have to see. The link to the site for the game is in the description and Max releases new verbal updates almost daily.

Wow! This is great! Toontown has always been my favorite game and it crushed me to find out that it was going down. I can't believe you guys at ToonTown Rewritten managed to restore such a complex game to its former glory! I can't wait to see how it turns out! Please make something more like a storyline and make it long!
Where do we get our registration key?
you get it from a developer or anyone else who has one, but most (if not all) of them have been given out, though there will be confirmed open beta so you'll get to play without a key in like 2 months or whenever it comes out

***** When the battle system is finished then it will be really easy to add in cogs. Also I made my own factory run in like a day so its not that hard to do those things. But that was before I heard about TTR so I thought I would make my own.

Omar Salti I know I feel like it's expected to be longer though because they still have to do giveaways whats the real point in giving a key away less than a month before the open game unless to test servers I suppose but that would be our only chance I think.
We're out of luck - almost August and they still have a shitload of work to do.

I'm gonna start crying. This made ms so happy when it came out. I now had the opportunity to max my toon's gags, have her to cog bosses, and wear anything she wants. This video is so pure. I love this game so much.
This brings back solo many memories. When it said closed I thought it meant a big update. When I figured out what it really meant I was heartbroken. But now it feels good knowing its technically back.

I think this is a very good idea and because you have not to pay membership, this game will not be taken down for all I know. thanks SO much to whoever made this. When I found out they were making this game, I was so happy :) They are doing so well so far. And I can't believe it's free. I've been playing this game for 6 years and was so upset when Disney shut it down! It was my childhood game and I felt bonded to my characters, as I imagine a lot of other people were. I'm so thankful they are making ToonTown Rewritten. :)

OMG it's already beta time!? Betas are usually shorter than alphas. I hope that time will fly. I can't wait for Toontown Rewritten to come out, and I'm so grateful to the TTR team for taking on this amazing project! You guys are the best! Hopefully it'll be out for the public before summer so I can spend my whole summer locked up in my room, trying to recreate my old toon xD
I still remember making my account around 2005 with my father.
It was such an amazing world to explore,
fighting cogs with your friends,
accessorizing your toon with lots of stuff & clothes,
and most of all...having fun.
My heart was almost teared to pieces when I found out Toontown had closed down officially. But then, when all hope was lost, I stumbled upon Toontown Rewritten.
I am so excited to start playing soon!

Please please please I want this brought back so bad. I play soo many games but this was my favorite MMORPG ever, to play it one more time would make me so happy. I'm so devistated it was shut down

The thing I love about this is that the graphics aren't great at all but it just has that fun feeling to it. I miss it so much. I'm a 13 year old boy and I can say that I will play this when it comes out.

I could cry knowing this actually exists. I've been playing Toontown since it opened & even though towards the last couple years of its time it was infested with hackers, I still absolutely loved it & I was crushed when I heard it was closing. I'm so excited for this. :3

There is a total of 100 keys but there were only 10 contests scheduled for Alpha Key giveaway and the last contest ended today @5pm EST. Out of the 100 keys, 90 keys were given out to developers' trusted sources.
I remember ToonTown being the first step into RPGs for me. =D
OH PLEASE BLESS THESE PEOPLE FOR BRINGING IT BACK! I'll admit Toontown did need some mild updates and changes but shutting it down was horrible. SO Glad to see it will be coming back!
I actually CANNOT BELIEVE that it's FINALLY FREE. I missed this game so DAMN much. Hahaha. It actually makes me VERY happy to see it return, even though it's not the original. This was literally my FAVORITE game back in the day, and i'm so happy to see it being brought back. :)

Sir thank you for reminding me of those good times! Believe it or not, i joined in 2007! Back then there were 0 hackers, no field offices, they only just brought 5 level buildings in and i witness every hq be made! awww good times.
I keep watching this every now and then. It brings me hope and reminds me of the love I have for toontown. I find every digital inch of toontown beautiful.

I read it's FAQ page, and it said the creator of ToonBook is making this game, so yes, Joey is in development of this game... I'm REALLY excited for ToonTown Rewritten to come out... Hopefully the toons with small laff and gags won't be allowed to come to buildings and bosses... We don't want those bad mistakes again... Other than that, I'm really happy you guys are doing this, it really makes me feel relieved. :) Hopefully it will come very soon... Stay ToonTastic guys! :D
I haven't played toontown since August 2011, when UK accounts were switched over to the US system... My account was lost, but this makes me want to get back into TT again! I was playing since 2006, and it saddened me when I heard it was going to close, as I was meaning to play it again, but never got round to it, but it is reassuring to see people trying to get a version up and running again! Thanks for trying to get this working, guys!
I love Toontown for its simplicity, I wish it was still around and not much would be changed.
I cried when toontown closed tbh. 8 years of my life was in that game. I can't wait till I get a code or it's released. This is going to be a huge success!
Also i think having everyone's toons being restarted will make it better cause there won't be all those high laff thinking their so "cool". Even though i was a high laff i still helped out the low laff toons
So far, it's just a place to run around screaming "YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY" and jumping for joy that Toontown is back. Hope Charlie, the boy from the video about TT closing, sees it.
I wish I could understand how you did this. It's such an amazing thing that someone could accomplish this and after watching your first video and realizing your only about 15 years old. Well it's amazing. I sincerely hope everything goes out the way you are expecting :3

im actually super excited for this game to release. I've played ToonTown ever since it was released, when i was around 10 years old before toons had shoes and backpacks lol. For TTR to look so much like ToonTown and have so much of its original characteristics just blows my mind, i cant wait to see the next product update ^_^
