Lovely to see the West Pier in all its glory. I can remember playing on it and enjoying the amusements as a child. It was quieter than the East Pier but one could find older and, for us, more interesting machines and activities there.
You showed the old boating pond on Norfolk Beach which was just west of the west Pier. My mum knocked me into it when I was about 6 and the guy who hired the boats waded in and rescued me. It was a November day in 1958.
Somehow this manages to make the 1970s look longer ago than they actually are. I think it's the heavy artifacting combined with the silent footage. It mentally puts you in mind of the 50s or 40s or something.
Those were great days, but sadly they have gone forever, and now Brighton is a lost place as it crumbles through neglect by the councils that were in charge over the past 30 years.
I have lived in Brighton for nearly 25 years ..When did the lime green Southdown buses cease to be in service in Brighton ? I remember a lot of this visiting Brighton from Hastings as a child in the 60,s
@@subbtopp Very true . That and a council more concerned with Woke / Green ideas than preserving and maintaining our town and it's rich history and historic buildings .Sad to see it's decline into rundown and neglected .
Brighton wasn't one of my most favourite south coast resorts, although i did visit it few times around this era in the video. The beach wasn't that great either, but i certainly wouldn't take my children on it in this day and age.
Alan White Why on earth not? I used to drive my kids down to Brighton seafront at every possible opportunity, whatever the season, and they loved it. I hope I can do the same for my grandchildren. Brighton's not the UKs top seaside destination for nothing

What game machines did they have? I imagine lots of Pinball type games.
You made my day .what a wonderful town .I use to live in Brighton in 70s as a student . Beautiful memories
Lovely to see cars with character and amazing bathing costumes. Thanks!
What a glorious blast from the past! I lived in Brighton 1959 - 1971.
So clean and rubbish free with a real sense of pride in the town, (now city).

I was at art college there 1968/1972 happy times
The beach life has changed quite a bit since then. I cant see anyone drinking Stella or sniffing Ketamine in this video.
no homeless ppl
And no morbidly obese people either.
Interesting to watch. Thank you ! Watch my "Brighton 2-day-visit" on my way back to Germany. Loved it.
Born too late!!!
Seems like the perfect place and time to live.
I remember the old green busses.
It hasn't changed that much. The roads look better kept then

simpler times

There seems to be very few overweight people back in those days...
When Brighton was a town (nor a city ) to be proud of . Now in 2022 a shadow of what it was in it,s glory days . Neglected , dirty and rundown .
thats because rich people arent paying their taxes to help repair and maintain it.

strange to tink so of those kids splashing about with youthful exubernace are now in their late 50's or older
