Question For You. 💭 Do You Think Fredo Betrayed Michael "AGAIN" by informing someone about Michaels plan to get rid of Roth? 11:43

    • @nilesh382000

Absolutely Yes. Coz right after the failed assassination attempt Michael told fredo "not to make a big thing" about the plane waiting to take them to Miami and then, gave him the kiss of death after which Fredo disappeared.
When Michael told Fredo at the Cafe that he has already made his move, Fredo desperately asked "What move?" and Michael answered coz he just knew that Fredo was the rat.

I didn't need to ponder this. The answer is Yes! Fredo told someone that Roth was about to be assassinated when he walked out the party saying, "I gotta get a real drink". In my opinion, this was a very poorly told lie. Look at how the army marched straight in to Roth's room. They didn't appear to stop anywhere. Fredo told someone and they called the army. I also think Micheal may have laid this trap for Fredo to test the "mole-leak" theory to find a traitor.

I believe Michaels eyes were open when he’s talking to Frankie P n Frankie tells him his father never trusted Hyman Roth. The look on Michaels face at that moment tells you he never heard that before. I believe that was the eye opener for Michael.

Disagree. Only because Michael's response to Pentangelli was "I know it was Roth who tried to have me killed." So Frankie didn't express anything Michael wasn't already hip to. It was Frankie Five Angels whose eyes were open when Michael told him the reason he wanted Frankie to "lay down" to the Rosato Brothers was so that he could make Roth feel secure and, thus, potentially discover who the traitor in the family was.

As soon as Michael told Fredo that “ Hyman Roth wouldn’t see the new year “ fredo ratted him out. It was a mistake on Michael’s part to tell fredo his plan. Hyman Roth is based entirely on Meyer Lansky- Lansky and others started casinos in Havana until Castro took over. That’s why the mafia was so invested in JFK and the Bay of Pigs- because they were playing off Kennedys desire to stop communism so they could make a fortune in the gaming industry without having any regulations or taxes. Lansky was also Jewish like Roth, close to organized crime but not a made guy, allegedly very wealthy, extremely cunning and calculated, and was also denied entry into Israel at the end of his life just like Hyman Roth was at the end. Roth makes a deal worth 100 million but steals 2 million from Michael whom he tries to lull into believing he's his successor? I don't buy it. Roth would bother to expose himself just for the mere change. Also, Fredo didn't inform the authorities about assassination attempt on Roth, Roth was already becoming suspicious of Michael when Michael held back 2 million dollars and when Roth himself brought up Moe Green and lost his acting for a few moments so he made sure his life is guarded at all times in all places. What I agree is that sending unknown assassin (who's still Sicilian) proves that Michael knew how dangerous and cunning Roth is and didn't want to lose his best men.

Ok, I had to stop at about 6:30. Is this going to an entire 15:00 and NEVER get to the real plot about Michael's $2M? It all boils down to revenge. Period. Hyman was playing Michael the entire time, knowing full well that as soon as he got the 2 mil, the government was going to be overthrown and he could tell Michael that his 2 mil went off with the president. What do you think Roth's speech to Michael about "Moe Greene getting shot in the eye and there isn't as much as a plaque to commemorate him" was all about? He KNEW Michael had Greene killed but couldn't act on it because it was a legit mob action. I get the feeling that many younger people aren't familiar with the fact this part of the movie was based loosely on actual events surrounding the 1958 overthrow of the Batista regime by Fidel Castro. The bottom line to the plot is that there was NEVER going to be any "palaces better than any carpet joints we have in Vegas". Roth knew full well that these grand plans were never going to happen. The loose end in all of this is how did Roth know but also thought that Michael didn't. It's not too far a stretch to give them that as part of the plot. Roth was entrenched in Havana while Michael was a newcomer.

Michael was playing along to make it seem like he was still moving forward with the deal and concerned about the money as was Roth. By that point in the movie both parties were solely just trying to find a way to kill the other one without making it appear like they did it.
Michael knew before he even met Roth at his house that it was Roth who tried to kill him. His motivation after that point was trying to find out who else was involved and by playing along with the idea that he was oblivious to Roth wanting him dead, the other ppl involved would reveal themselves.

That was something that confused me about the video too... all the talk of the "second" bag of two million. Unless someone can tell me exactly what scene/dialogue/etc... references it, I do not remember any mention of or inference toward a magical "other" two million.
Just for SAG's - suppose there was - if so, being used as anything other than a decoy to help keep Fredo safe toting it to the island, would make a separate 2 mil a almost definitely extraneous aspect of what was already an overly convoluted plan/require A LOT of unnecessary moving parts, since Fredo got the two mil he was carrying there "right on time" as far as I can tell (Roth's only problem was Mike's hesitation to hand it over)... but again, I can't remember anything in the movie the either directly speaks too or indirectly hints at a "seperate" 2 million in cash making it's way to Cuba. I mean, that detail would HAVE to require at least a conversation between major characters to introduce the subject as being either a possible or actual factor in the movie.

That was the crack in the empire's walls. When Roth failed in his hit at Michael's home he was living on borrowed time. Michael, like his father was smarter and more ruthless than anyone he encountered. The way Michael outplayed Roth is the stuff of legend. Asking who put the attempted hit on Pentangeli, Roth completely betrayed his true intentions. Breaking into a rage about his friend Moe Greenes assassination. The greatest mistake any mob figure can make is to make their true feelings known. In the end Michael made Hyman Roth look like an outdated fool. Eightysixing Hyman Roth.

Either Ola via Fredo or the Authorities probably found Ola's body and went to the Hospital to make sure Roth was all right. If Michael was killed, what would have happened? Fredo would try to take over; but Tom would've succeeded in doing so. The Havana Deal would still fail. Fredo eventually would've told Tom about Roth and Ola. Tom would take out Roth and the Resotto Bros. But Fredo would have lived and no longer be involved in the Family Business. It's possible he could have believed it - Ola is one associate of one person associated with Vegas. Likewise Ola is a fairly serious guy, and Fredo was basically acting as Moe's intern/compere/entertainments manager, so he wasn't going to be trusted with dealing with serious matters or people.
Fredo is an affable and (apparently) unambitious guy, probably the last person Michael would suspect. On the face of it, Fredo would be a pointless traitor to cultivate since no-one trusts him with important Corleone stuff. As with Vito, Michael initially has a weakness for indulging his family, and so if Fredo appears not to have met someone (or doesn't remember doing so), Michael wouldn't smell a rat. In reality, Fredo was an ideal choice for traitor, since he can be manipulated into opening some drapes to help Ola "scare" Michael in return for a little flattery and a cut of the resulting deal.
By "someone close" Michael expected the traitor to be a trusted retainer, rather than actual family.
In reality, Fredo could have pretended a nodding acquaintance with Ola ("I saw him with Moe a couple of times") but that might be worse - Michael would have then pumped him for information about this new contact, and Fredo could well have let something slip.

And this is still a story of fiction and all of the outcomes are made up in his imagination. Having said this, who opened the curtains for the assassination? I believe Michel sets out on a quest to answer this question. My opinion is Fredo. The phone call Fredo gets late at night when in bed, gives us a clue to the answer. Michel becomes aware of what we know at the night club. Fredo lets it out that he has met Johnny Ola and Roth. I believe Michel knew, at that very moment, it was Roth behind the assassination attempt.

Even though I disagree with the theory in the clip, the logic does make sense because Roth didn't need the 2 million. He just used it to try and fool Michael into thinking it was an investment. It would have looked even more suspicious if Roth let Michael in on the deal for free. Roth wanted Michael and his family out for two reasons - removing competition (he was getting too powerful which is also why the Senator hated him) and revenge for Moe Green.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you but my take from this video is that you said Roth NEEDED Michael for this deal to go through, not for the money but for Michael's power and influence, so why then would Roth kill him right after getting the 2 million dollars? You said Roth didn't need the money but instead needed Michael's clout so if Michael is killed before everything completely comes to fruition wouldn't the people Michael has clout over potentially back out of the deal? That's why it never made sense to me that Roth would have Michael killed for revenge if he indeed needed Michael for this deal.
Roth may have wanted revenge on Michael due to Moe Greene but ultimately Roth is a businessman first and foremost and wants to make as much money as possible. If Michael could help him do that he would do business with him. Basically to sum it up either Roth never needed Michael to begin with and just put up this charade to try to assassinate him or he did need him and was going to work and make money with him.

I don't think Roth needed Fredo to get it done. It seems that Roth had it all figured out. He figured that Michael would get the $2 million to him, but had the courrier taken out and pretended the money never arrived. I also think that Roth figured this 'take out' of the courrier would get Michael thinking that Roth somehow was connected to the take out. Roth could justify the rubbing out of Michael by telling his partners that Michael blamed him for the taking out of the courrier, even though Roth told him he had nothing to do with it; that it was coincidental. But since Michael wouldn't believe him and told Roth he'll pay for this, Roth will claim he had no choice but to get rid of Michael. It seems like you're giving Fredo too much credit for this one.
I will say that Roth underestimated the power of the Revolutionary forces at that moment in time. He should not have assumed that the President would automatically remain in authority, but taken a wait and see stance before embarking on such an ambitious venture.

    Interesting video thanks.
Though, if I may give some input, I don't think the contemplative nature of the exploration of the psychology of the characters and scenes fits with speeded up clips. It would have been far better with clips that tracked the stately pace of the actual movie.

I've watched a few of these and they always seem to "inform" us about things that were perfectly explained by just watching the movie or things they claim happened off screen but there is no evidence that actually happened, like saying Mike sent money by a courier that was robbed and killed by Roth. No proof of this happening anywhere in the story so just invent a sub plot to get people to click.

That's why all the hits were done while Michael was christening his nephew. He had an ironclad, totally public alibi. He also had many cops, judges, and media members on his payroll, and the public generally dismissed mob massacres as infighting. They were titillated by the violence, but more concerned with WWII, the new Cold War, Communist infiltration of government, etc. then.

The biggest puzzle piece that never seems to fit the story is who was responsible for the bedroom shooting in the beginning of the story?
If it was Roth then that doesn't fit with this video too well if Roth was trying to get money from Micheal then killing him kills that.
If it was Fredo plotting to take out his brother to assume power of the family then who were the gunman they found murdered in the ditch after the hit attempt and by whom?
Pantangeli had a legitimate beef with Micheal and the New York situation with the Roth backed Rosato brothers and the gunman were from New York?
So how about your theory on the bedroom shooting...who came into Micheal's bedroom while she was sleeping and opened up the drapes? Was it Fredo?
