Joe Frazier - Was an American professional boxer who competed from 1965 to 1981. Widely regarded as one of the greatest Heavyweight boxers of his generation, he was known for his strength, durability, formidable left hand, and relentless pressure fighting style and was the first boxer to defeat Muhammad Ali. Frazier reigned as the undisputed Heavyweight champion from 1970 to 1973 and as an amateur won a gold medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Frazier emerged as the top contender in the late 1960s, becoming undisputed Heavyweight champion in 1970. In 1971, he defeated Ali by unanimous decision in the highly anticipated Fight of the Century. Two years later, Frazier lost his title to George Foreman. Frazier's last world title challenge came in 1975, but he was beaten by Ali in the brutal rubber match, the Thrilla in Manila. Frazier retired in 1976 after a second loss to Foreman but made a comeback in 1981, before retiring for good with a record of 32 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw. The Ring magazine named him Fighter of the Year in 1967, 1970, and 1971, and the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) named him Fighter of the Year in 1969, 1971, and 1975. In 1999, The Ring ranked him the eighth greatest Heavyweight.

I agree with you. But let's not forget that the rocky series was stolen from the life of chuck wepner. I think people confuse the rocky character with joe frazier or rocky Marciano, but it was made after chuck wepner. I've seen the documentary it's interesting to say the least lol.

    • @master.fong777
      @master.fong777 4 года назад +17

be cool Yes it was made based off chuck Werner in some certain cases. But the way Balboa fights is based off Marciano and Frazier and the place where Frazier used to live Southern Philadelphia he used to run up those steps himself not Werner but him. Wepner ran around in a park unlike Frazier.

rocky was southpaw same as frazier, worked the abattoir, same as frazier, ran the steps same as frazier, and was too small and won everything in heart like frazier, apolo creed was the fast mouthed athletic pro.....Ali...... however wepner fought a wrestler as rocky did thunderlips, he won a lawsuit for millions based on it, stalone took bits of them all to make his picture, but make no mistake frazier had a huge influence over the old Italian stallion

They don't make 'em like Smokin' Joe anymore. He would've died in that ring before he gave up. "Relentless" describes him most.
I was 8 I think when he and Ali came here for the rubber match. The streets were empty. Ghost town. Not a soul in sight because everyone was glued to the TV. We were all Muhammad Ali fans, but you can't help but admire this relatively little guy who came forward while taking loads of punishment.
    True legend. great tribute, haNZAgod.

Joe was a machine , stamina for days, recopproprative powers, chin, great punch, quick. Reflexes. He may of had his disadvantages, but rose through them with modesty.
His heart was the greatest thing about smoking Joe. He could street fight too. Ali found Frazier a harder fight than most he fought

Futch did the right thing stopping that fight. Joe could hardly see and Ali hit him with everything but the kitchen sink in the 14th round, it was and still is hard to watch. Joe had a family, a wife. Plus Futch himself like everyone else probably loved Joe, wasn't going to sit there and see him punched to death in the 15th.

he inspired me a lot when I was a young man looking for inspiration.
To me the most amazing thing he ever did in his career, and what I think is more impressive than anything is the way he fought foreman. He just kept getting knocked down by a man who would annihilate his opponents and Joe REFUSED to stay down...
No one in history would've gotten up that many times from punches like those..
Joe truly was one of a kind..

Blind in the left eye and with a crooked left arm that had limited range of motion. This man is a true legend and deserves to have a statue in Philadelphia.

Joe's greatness is that he was always ready to die in every fight, the current fighters fight for money, Joe fought for his name, for the house in which he grew up, for his mother, father, for a poor childhood, for the black population.
