- The NFL is speaking out after the Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, delivered a controversial speech at a college graduation over the weekend. In a statement to 'People,' the NFL's Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Jonathan Beane, says Harrison's beliefs 'are not those' of the organization. During his commencement address, Harrison seemingly called out President Biden's policies and 'dangerous gender ideologies.' His speech also drew flack from fans when he quoted Taylor Swift's 'Bejeweled,' after sharing he believes a woman's most important role is 'homemaker.'

Yeah it definitely depends what city you live 20 miles outside of cause 20 minutes outside of DC or Dallas there are still super cheap living areas, especially if you have an acre I’d assume I don’t need to “try again”, it more of a blanket statement on how cost of living areas can impact how people raise a family, I have nothing against a stay at home parent, but where you live can change how you handle raising a family and having both spouses working to afford a lifestyle doesn’t mean your chasing “cheap thrills”, maybe they enjoy their shoebox and don’t need to conform to stay at home housewife to make their family work, also I don’t live NYC, I would not use the city I actually live in lol

His own mother was a physicist at Emory University and had a very successful career which is why Harrison was even able to become an NFL Player in the first place... He's allowed to have his own opinions and live by those values for his life but to say everyone must follow him in leading that lifestyle too which won't work for eveyone is a terrible idea. Much less to tell half of the audience he's speaking to that there achivements are meaningless now because they'll be mothers one day. I understand being a mother is very important and I appreciate him thanking his wife for eveything she does as a mother but being a mother shouldn't take away from other life achievments such as graduating.

You’re right. The problem is that he was addressing women who after working hard to earn their degree saying that all what they had just worked for is a lie. That’s what people have a problem with. But the point of that commencement address is to share your experiences, give them advice and encouragement, and hopefully prepare them for the struggles that they might face after exiting their college bubbles. He has a right to his opinions and his beliefs, of course, but this was 100% inappropriate. Not the time and place to bible-thump and spew opinions that are completely shaped by his own personal biases, as if they were facts that God himself co-signed on. If I hired you to write an article about the struggles of maintaining personal faith in a materialistic world for a Catholic / Christian magazine, and instead you wrote an unhinged rant about your own beliefs and how others should adopt it otherwise they're cowards, then it doesn't matter if you have a right to your opinion. Actually listen to what he spoke about - he was praising the choices made by his wife and many other women. Those criticizing him would have us believe that he had his wife in chains in his basement. I work with many women who have master degrees and higher. I’ve asked if they were married and their husbands made a lot of money would they stay home with the kids and they all said yes. 🤷♂️

I did listen to the whole speech. I found it baffling that a man who lauds family values at no point talked about the importance of fatherhood and was quite happy to call those who use IVF perverse. Imagine having fertility issues and going through the challenges and medication to try and conceive only for a guy like Butker with a big platform call you a deviant for using it. Worse, people championing him for it.
You're speaking to a diverse crowd of people with different backgrounds and beliefs. The purpose of a this speach is to note the challenges the graduates will most likely face and maybe how to while encouraging them to go forward to success and make the world around them better.
It is not a place to spew political or personal dogmas of any kind. These schools really need to do a better job at vetting who the let speak at these things. These students can never get this day back.

I support you 1000%. I think it is incredibly ridiculous what these "women" are saying. My mother graduated at 17, married my dad, started a family and was a stay at home mom. Guess what myself and my 9 other siblings got??? We got our mom taking care of us and not a daycare, a mother that would lay on the floor and color with us, play games with us, let the girls comb her waist length hair, a mother that would read to us and tons other things that they will miss. My mother and ALL mothers that a good stay at home mom (homemakers) are REAL WOMEN!!!! Well said Sir! don't back down.

I don't agree with anything he says, but I don't think anyone watches football for the Mensa members of tomorrow. Also, if the guy is open about his religious or ethical convictions, then we can't be shocked his speech led to this. I would suggest to the NFL or any organization that hopes their members keep mum until out of contracts to add this "you speak on behalf of the NFL" clause into contracts and just let their team members know they can be individuals after they retire. It's not hard to contractually bind people to their salaries. You want a job? Keep your opinions to yourself and to your private voting experience. Sign here for that paycheck.
