      In episode 2 (death), the magazine that Duck is reading has a section that reads "WORM FIRED FOR HARRASSMENT," which foreshadows Warren the Worm who’s the teacher in episode 4.
      Also in episode 2, the lyrics in the credit music mention most of the teachers.
      "If you meet a business man (briefcase), you must shake him by the hand"
      "If you meet a choo-choo man (train), you must shake him by the hand" and etc.
      Notice how Yellow Guy’s overalls have a letter D. In episode 2, David is engraved in it, but it’s not Duck’s name. In episode 6, Lesley says that Yellow Guy isn’t her real son. Yellow Guy gets run over by the car in episode 5 (transport), implying that the series was made for David’s (Lesley’s son) memory.

    I really REALLY liked the new show, I felt the music wasn’t as catchy as the original, but I sure did like the Job song and the Stress song. I feel like they did a really good job bringing back the show in a good way.
    One of my favorite cartoons (Bee and Puppycat) did a reboot recently and I personally didn’t really like how it turned out. I was worried DHMIS was gonna go down the same route. But surprisingly it didn’t which made me happy.

    Seems like a great project. Would love to watch it. Wish it would be released in America already so I can, you know, watch the damn thing. Definitely wasn't like waiting for it to come out for years or anything just to get horribly disappointed that it won't air in America. Smh. I definitely reckon I'll be in the minority here, however after watching the series on TV, I honestly did not think it translated too well. I think the show works well as short 5 minute episode songs, but as a 20+ minute show it does feel far too stretched and, in my opinion, the mysteries etc are now as interesting as those in the original 6 shorts and felt rather pandering. It does not detract at all from the original internet series, however I feel that it might have worked far better at a shorter run time.

    GBH. I think Yellow and Red’s normal reaction after watching a literal Coffin come to life in their house, right in front of them is probably my favourite joke in the series. They aren’t even phased in the slightest, they just say hi to Coffin pretty normally
    Also now for a theory of my own. In Episode 3, the Family one. Roy (Yellow Guy’s father, and the RUclips series’ main antagonist) shows up and kills the family. Many assume it’s because he went there to save Yellow Guy. But I think given on how it cuts to the chicken before Roy starts going “nom nom nom”, I think it’s heavily implied he killed them so that he can have the chicken all to himself
    Edit: Also. According to an interview. The reason the original TV series was never finished, was because one of the US company (dunno which it is), was pushing Becky and Joe into making the series how it did: By having the series in Clayhill, and by including all these new characters, like Big Ian (Who I always thought was named Big Ear) Mayor Pigface and others.
    Also fun fact: One of the Clayhill residents (the one that appears next to Duck in the Wakey Wakey thumbnail), was repurposed into one of Yellow Guy’s brain friends in Episode 4 of the TV series, now named “Shy Imaginary Older Brother”

    They make those characters seem more multi-dimensional in character

    • @MaMastoast
      @MaMastoast 2 года назад +67

      I think it's a needed change for the longer episodes we see in the tv show, but I do think it takes away from the darker qualities. The original run had a feeling of being absolutely powerless against the freakish visions given to you, everyday an unending nightmare.
      Because the trio can actually "fight back", it doesn't feel as they're as trapped in this nightmare dimension as previously.. which is good to add some Plot and character, but it's not as freaky imo.

      Electric teacher seems nice enough, the coffin aside from trying to convince that you are dead, didn't seem to have any malicious intent, infact he was being very kind and understanding.
      The fleshy goo "duck replacement" was also super nice and had a positive outlook on life.

    • @Smartacus420
      @Smartacus420 2 года назад +23

      I personally believe its a different trio. The first trio were actors on a childrens TV show that became corrupted by corporate greed, Red left, then Duck, then finally Yellow Guy after Red takes control away from Roy. Then they all start a new indie show, in their respective favorite colours.
      The TV series I believe is a puppet show imagined by Lesley, existing only in her imagination/the attic playhouse. Maybe she used to be a fan of the original TV show and decided to use those characters as her playthings. Maybe her dead son was a big fan of the original TV show, and his favorite character was yellow guy. She has no malicious intent, and therefore the teachers are not mean spirited this time. In fact Lesley didnt like the way the characters were treated in the original series, so she thinks up much nicer scenarios for them. She is also a bit wacky in the head though so some messed up stuff does sneak in their sometimes, but its just her having a laugh. Yellow guy asks why shes doing it all and she says "BECAUSE ITS JUST SO FUNNY!". Which I also think is Becky and Joes way of saying not to read into the lore too much because at the end of the day, they create the show to make people laugh and freak them out a bit, and the lore etc is an afterthought to that.

Colin the computer is extremely more likeable, as he joins in on roasting the worm-eagle guy. Larry the lamp isn't as mean, as he gives Yellow Guy some pretty deep advice about death. Tony is just chilling in the background of almost every episode on the wall and delivers the "They're not here" line perfectly. I wouldn't mind if the original unaired pilot gets put on the DVD as a bonus feature.
      Maybe have a disclaimer from the creators (it can also be Red Guy, due to his monotone voice) saying how this pilot doesn't represent the final product, but a vision that almost ruined the trio's way of life.
      The TV series did had a joke about the pliot in Episode 5. With the GPS suggesting a location (one that in-universe doesn't exist anymore). I mean, Red Guy wants to let the road take the trio anywhere instead of either a predetermined location or going back home.
      In the joke case, the location suggested was Clayhill. The original location in the unaired pilot.

    In a world riddled by cheap money grabs and soulless reebots or live action adaptations, DHMIS was a breath of fresh Air. I love that they kept the spirit of the original series and expanded on it in a creative and interesting way, and that it stands unique in it's presentation and story telling despite being a TV series now. I hope it will inspire other shows, for any ages, to take more creative liberty

    It's actually pretty funny. I stumbled upon the original series in high school back in 2011 with some of my friends. We watched it accidentally on the school computer and well the teachers flipped because we were watching this crazy piece of crap and well we have to rewatch it at our friend's house. I had to say it's interesting. Really was to this day. I still laugh at the fact that we were caught using a school computer and almost got in detention for it. I don't regret it

    It would be cool to see you review the Long, Long Holiday.
    Not sure if you heard of it, but it's a short French series about the ocupation of Normandy by the Germans in WWII as seen by the local children.
    It's only 10 episodes long (only a single season), but I think you'd really enjoy it. Not only does it not talk down to its child audience (people die), but they also portray the German forces as people, as their own characters, not just as demons. Definitely seems like your kind of show.

    I think the tv series is about as accurate as you can get while also trying to make much longer episodes with more of a plot.
    two major differences since the web episodes is that the characters have a lot more time for talking to eachother, which gives us a better impression of their "friendship" and also their general mood outside of nightmarish encounters.
    The second thing is that our protaganists appear to have more agency in their encounters than they typically did in the orignal episodes. Usually stuff would happen -to- them and they'd get forcefully pulled into strange twisted realities. This still sometimes happens but the three friends appear to actually change things and make real impact in these encounters... sometimes they even casually overpower the guests, which would never have happened in the web series.
    For example, Duck actually is the one to mentally torture the coffin, not the other way around, whilst red and yellow guy both appear extremely weird and creepy to new member of the trio... A character who aside from looking like a fleshy morphling, is actually decently rational and friendly compared to every other character we've met untill now.
    we also see the trio steal electricity's batteries, completely desotrying it's powers.. they are phyiscally and mentally able to overpower their would-be tormentors in the tv series, where as they were powerless victims in the web show.

    A little easter egg I've noticed is that yellow guy constantly wears a watch throughout each episode, only time he wore one in the web series was for a breif moment in the Time episode, when the clock raised his arm pointing out you can wear one on your wrist. Maybe it means nothing but it seemed like a weird small detail to me which I can't quite explain why is it there in the first place. Maybe it is vital to something. Also, the briefcase from the first episode wore that exact watch.

There isn’t an episode of this I don’t love, they’re funny, well crafted in all aspects, have great messages, and really added more to the main characters! My favorite is the third episode because of how creepy and unexpectedly funny it is. Every time I think of “The call, darling. Two things I noticed (which I don’t mind) is that the gore got toned down and the teachers from the web series returning but being pretty friendly towards the main characters. It was actually pretty sweet seeing Yellow talk to Lamp in the second episode and nothing bad coming out of it.

Maybe it's because I've never much gone for deep fan theories unless there seems to be solid material to support them, but I just get the idea that Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is meant to be taken at face value--It's a children's show gone horribly wrong and by the end of it, the characters start to become aware of how bizarre their reality is only for it all to be reset at the end anyway. It's just having fun with how weird it would be to exist in such a strange reality.
