The reason he has a son is cause in the books after he becomes king he has his only son Eldarion who later became the king they added him in the mod so it was a certain he would be in the game.
Also the person you call his cousin is not his cousin but one of the best rangers the reason he is Aragorn's cousin is to keep the line from going extent and you losing.

Apollo doing a campaign? WHAT IS THIS? (i'm so happy)
I think the campaign mechanics are best in M2TW and its mods. More buildings, better settlement mechanics, and the replenishing mechanics are much better. Also the unit stats are so simple with low numbers that are easy to understand. An HD version of M2 just needs updated graphics to match higher settings and a few bug fixes and the ability to mod it just as much as the original.

So, i am gonna TRY to write some backstory, please give feedback guys, it probably isn't ver good, bu here you go: (made some significant changes, so the rettinue i the game should fit with my backstory)
The year is now 2980 of the third age. Aragorn and his trusted generals has long been keeping the lands around Breeland and the Shire clear of enemies. Halbarad had gained the title 'protector of the Shire' by frequently patrolling the borders of the Shire with a handfull of dúnedain rangers.
As for Araphor, the youngest of Aragorns generals, he has been quite stationary for a long time. In his late teens early twenties he was busy patrolling the eastern borders of Fennas Drúnin, but as he suffered a crushing defeat to a large band mountain orcs, he was forced to retreat. In the years following, he had been scouting south of the Dunedáin territory, on the northern border of Dunland, the clans of wild men, with scouts as far south as the western border of Gondor and the areas around Hornburg. He later travelled back home, telling Aragorn of the situation in the south. News which deeply concerned Aragorn. A conflict might be about to break out between the allies Rohan and Isengard. Afterwards he travelled to Amon Sûl, the place he grew up, the place he had sworn to defend. As a youngster, he was trained by his father, who died in an orc ambush north of 'the watchtower of Amon Sûl' (i.e weathertop). Araphor was, in the age of 14, sent with a handful of other men, to look for survivors. None was left alive, but Araphor managed to find his father old Arnorian sword, beautifully decorated, yet simple. He now returned as a general with a few hundred men, prepared to fend off orc attacks.
Hirvegil has for some years been scouting the northernmost border of Breeland, all the way up in Fornost, Angmarian territory, discovering a great evil lurking in the fortress of Carn Dúm. Aragorn has for many years been settled in Fennas Drúnin, but frequently patrolling the lands of the Dunedain. He is quite knowledgeable of the history and origins of the dúnedain, therefore considered a loremaster, a man of great knowledge and wisdom.
When Aragorn was told of the threat in the north, which he ad long suspected, he had quite the canondrum to solve. How is he going to deal with the threat in the north, with so few settlements and so few men at his disposal?
Will he choose to expand south, and risk being thrown into the powerstruggle between Isengard and Rohan and a possible clinch with the Dunlendings?
Or will he perhaps expand north and try to recapture the old Arnorian fortresses, now defiled by the orc filth and their terrible leader Agandaur, but risk open war with Angmar?
Only time can answer these questions..

You are losing around 1k gold per turn you should make economic buildings that increase your income. The forts in DaC can be used for free upkeep has 1 fort has 4 free upkeep units so when you are not using your army place your armies inside the forts for some extra upkeep.
The nordern Dunedain in DaC are a roleplay faction so there are events were you will have to move aragorn around so it does make the campaing a lot more fun.
Northern Dunedain armies are very expensive so be careful in the amount of troops that you recruit.
Also the bodyguard have auto replenishment so all men that u lose in your bodyguards will return unless you lose the general in that case well no bodyguard and general :D
For the next mission of the aragorn quest you have to take him to the regions east of your capital were you will get a message that you have captured gollum then you must return whit aragorn to bree.
Just some help in the for the campaing.

I know, this comment is two years old but I just downloaded DaC yesterday and it's tougher than Third Age but looks way more interesting and fun! My question for you, VOTWC, is 1) Do the bodyguard units only refresh up to 77 despite originally being, say 100+ (I read that in the DaC 4.5 intro text)? and 2) Are there other "roleplay factions?" One thing I've always wanted to do was play as Saurman and betray the Lord of Mordor when the time is right (i.e Rohan and Gondor are conquered). And if anyone is still watching this video and replying to comments, THANK YOU!

@@alanvenneman6323 i havent played dac in some time, but if you capture the ring as saruman, you do have an option to betray sauron, and keep the ring.
And yes, bodyguards only refresh up to 77 unless the bodyguard unit is a recruitable unit and you retrain it in a place where you can recruit it.
      Hope it helps :)

    Fun fact
    Elrond is uncle of aragorn
    BECAUSE
Elrond was born as half-elf and he had a brother, So airu *the creator of all*
Gave them 2 choices to become a man or elf
Elrond became an elf while his brother -forgot his name- became a human
and elronds brother became the first king of numenor making elrond related to the bloodline of the kings

Halbarad is a great friend of Aragorn. I am not sure if he actually is his cousin, however, he leads (in Aragorns stead) the grey company; Aragorns elite ranger group, and his bodyguard in the mod. In the books he comes to Aragorns aid in Gondor. The Grey company join's Aragorn at the stone of Erech, in the halls of the dead. Afterwards, the Grey Company joins Aragorn during the battle of the Pellenor Fields. Where Halbarad dies...
Furtermore, you should not siege mengalen yet. In the region lie the Barrow Downs. Cursed by the Witch-King, and the dead rise when they are disturbed.
Also, the general in the fort was meant to take either Anuminas or Dead Man's Dike (Fornost)
If you read this Apollo, you might as well check out Arachir Galiderithon's faction overview of the Dunedaîn. He explains your faction specific scripts and how the unit roster system works.
Also, just a little bit more lore; the dunedaîn and Cardolan people are kin. Cordolan was a kingdom in Arnor. And almost as Dunedaîn as your rangers.

I, Araphor, son of Arveleg I, was awarded the throne of Arthedain at a young age, years ago now. The Witch-King of Angmar launched a massive campaign in which my father fought in the battle of Amon Sul, losing his life defending his kingdom. In my youth, I was not holding back the invasion, nor running things properly so I was sent by the counsel of nobles to learn under the most great, Aragorn. In the battle of Tirdhuin, if you watch closely, you can see me turning from a stubborn young fool, to a potentially worthy general.

You know the fall of Arthedain happened about 2000 years prior to the setting of this game, the fall of Amon Sul 600 years prior to the fall of Arthedain. Also there were six kings of Arthedain after Araphor.

Araphor is a Dunedan decendent of the men, that fought on the side of angmar in the downfall of Arnor. He is a Man who believes in Aragorn, and loves him like a brother. His loyalty is so low not because of him, but rather because of his ancestors, and that the dark has more effect on him and he is always in danger to slip into the shadow. He has not much experience in battle and has only ambushed small groups of orcs with few but very elite archers. Now he will learn under Aragorns command to pay off the guilty of his ancestors. Halbarad if the North was a Duke of a large town in the north if middle earth. The town, annumenas, was famous for its large cathedral and devout pollutants. 5 years ago Sauron sent a army of 20000 orcs to raze the town to the ground. Halbarad raised an army of 5000 men, only 2000 where properly trained, while 1000 had no training at all. The Orcish army lay siege to the town, and prayed to their gods to save them, but Halbarad did not pray for salvation. Halbarad prayed that he and his men my kill 10000 orcs before the city fell. After a 3 year siege the orcs attacked, and the first wave was defeated, 2300 orcs dead, 100 humans killed. The next day, another assault came, and the next day another. This continued for 2 weeks, them the walls fell. The orcs razed the town to the ground, Halbarad and his personal guard escaped. They returned that night, and counted the bodies. The gods had grated Halbarad's prayers, 15000 orcs lay dead.
Halbarad then became a mercenary for 3 years, fighting in wars for the elves, dwarves and humans. Then he found Aragorn, a warrior king that lead with his wit and his steel. His prayers for a king had been answered. He pledged his allegiance to him at that moment, and has been his friend ever since. 3 months ago, he married Aragorn's cousin. Now they where more then friends, now they were family.

    Hirvegil's back story
He was born in a small town in the lands of Dunedain.
When he grew up he moved to a bigger city and joined the army. He promoted quickly because of his tactical skills. Unfotunatelly an army of 1000 orkcs was coming and the city didn't have good defences. It only had something like a big fence. The Dunedain had 500 men in the city and there was no time for sending a message for help. The commander of the army decided to go meet the orcs on the open field. But this choice cost him his life. When the commander died Dunedain ran away. They only lost 50 men but they didn't have any leader. Then Hirvegil decided to take control over the army. He inspired his fellow warriors with an inspiring speach ( a speach with inspiring music XD) and prepared for the defence of the city. Hirvegil and his men fortficated the city as much as they could. They made the fence around the city stronger and the evacueted the citizens. When the orcs came they were as ready as they could. Orcs laid siege on the city but Hirvegil and his men managed to defend it. They slaied almost the whole army of orcs with very small loses on their side.
Dunedain were victorious. After this victory lord Aragorn promoted Hirvegil to a general. And now our hero is fighting with the greatest leader of the Dunedain on his side.
I hope you enjoyed my version of Hirvegil's back story. If you please live a like because I hope Apollo will choose this story to his campain :)

Araphor was a warrior monk from Arnor, where he trained to be a soldier for the front lines in the many wars of Arnor. But he instead found a knowledge of strategy, he would lead small groups of soldiers to aid larger armies, become mercenaries to aid the royal budget, or attack enemy elements. Never the best commander, he has lost many a battle, and won many more. Though his stubbornness never let him learn from his mistakes. In one attack on an enemy village, he ordered a full charge into the village, his army of about 300 was killed by the 50 defenders of the village. He fled with his personal bodyguard to Aragorn, where he asked for protection. Aragorn let him into his army as a captain, though he rose though the ranks to become a note worthy commander. He is now a loyal Commander (when the pay is good) in Aragorn's personal army, commanding the Calvary. He now waits, like a dog on a leash, to pounce on his enemies.

Nice to see you playing a new Campaign, realy enjoyed the Stormcloaks! Also pretty cool it's Third Age, me and a friend just installed Battle for Middleearth (2004) last week again and had a lot of fun. BUT little advice, you should realy build MORE watchtowers again, to have more control over your territory and be able to see what's going on beyond your boarders.
    Good luck!

Hirvergil, the Keeper of the Lore of the Men of the West -
'Our family is one of intelligence.' Hirvergil muttered, rifling through his papers on his ancestors in the ruins of Fornost, the Ancient Capital of Arthedain, greatest of the descendants of Arnor. When the Witch-King passed through the Gates of Fornost, there was one man willing to protect the knowledge of Numenor and of the descendants of Elendil. His name was Araphor, ancestor to Hirvergil. He gathered all he could and ran into the distance. This knowledge would be passed from father to son and each generation would keep the light of the Dunedain alive.
The Witch-King was defeated, soon after. The Elven and Gondorian forces saving the crippled Arnorians from imminent doom. The Sons of Isildur would live on, but they would reside in the forests, hiding and keeping the peace in Eriador. Hirvergil shook his head at the state of the Dunedain. He kept some hope in his pocket for the rise of Arnor, some belittled the Keeper of Fornost. This idealist who thinks that the stones of Fornost can be made strong again, living in the past and his home in his books. It was then, Hirvergil found what he was looking for. A document by Araphor, the last one he ever wrote.
'My sons, I write to thee to keep the memory of the Dunedain alive. The exploits of Isildur, the beauty of Amon Sûl and of Annúminas. The rolling hills of the Barrow Downs and the wealth of Arthedain. To remember the Rhudaur traitors and to do Eru and the Valar's will. For as long as you and your sons live, keep the memory of Arnor until Morgoth breaks through the Gates of the Moon!'
A tear went down Hirvergil's face. A knock came at the door.
"My Lord, a message from Chieftain Aragorn, he bids you to govern Fennas Drûnin in his stead." announced the messenger, calling from outside the door.
Hirvergil opened it and said, "Pack my bags and call my retinue, I will leave at dawn."

Make peace with the dunlendings immediately and keep an army in the east to hold off the orcs of the misty mountains, who are generally concerned with fighting Khazad dum but can attack settlements close to the mountains. Get trade with all good factions and push north slowly since you are heavily outnumbered in the start. Focus on economy and taking rebel settlements. Also in divide and conquer, I’ve found that neutral armies are very aggressive, they don’t just sit around like they do in vanilla. Be careful. Also watchtowers are cheap get them everywhere your general goes. Also take the city of annuminas which is by the fort that got attacked. You were supposed to use the troops in that fort to help take it but there is still time to seize it.

I do the same things, and kind of use strategies depending on the general and how they would act, like my general who was super violent and the highest command general in my country. He was my favorite to control because of how much the soldiers listened to him, and after winning countless battles he died of old are, at near 80, rather than at the hands of an enemy

If you haven't played D&C for a LONG time Apollo, reading the welcome message can be essential for you to understand what requirements you need to meet to build certain stuff, how to get garrisons, how to give your generals free upkeep in settlements, recruit certain units, ect.
But hey, we'll see how it goes~

Hi apollo: if you follow that story you get some nice traits on aragorn, like the use of athelas. Also you will gain the ghost army, that will help you for 3 battles. When it says go to bree, it means move Aragorn into the region of bree. Now you have to send him to the hills of rhudaur region.

Araphor son of Karaphor a half elf born to his mother within Mirkwood, for the first years of his life he spent being looked down on by his elven family being treated as no more than a slave. His mother having enough of her sons treatment took her son and fled along with her family’s treasure, the Shield of Fingolfin, I Rammas “The Wall.” A shield which moves and blocks any strike as long as the wielder knows of the strike. Unfortunately Araphor’s mother was gravely wounded by orc bandits near the Dúnedain territories, she parishes only days after their arrival to safety. Araphor was greeted by his Dúnedain brethren with open arms. Raised by his father he has sworn to hunt all the orcs and find the one responsible or his mother’s death, even if all the trainers believe he his hopeless in all forms of combat. Aragorn recognized his determination and trained him himself. He still has a long way to go but both Aragorn and his father Karathorn can see he has the makings for a great leader!!!
