    It's a shame that a country so rich, can be so poor and full of contrasts. This is what makes me embarrassed of being Brazilian.

      I Think this is happening in all América Latina the politicians are corrupt !

    • @lukasxanadu
      @lukasxanadu 10 лет назад +2

      Hate to say, but Latin America just thinks about soccer and dramatic soap operas, especially Spanish soap operas,with a bunch of women, heavily made-up crying and yelling at each other. Latin America has the greatest natural resources, but its people and governments are overwhelmingly corrupt. Take care

    • @ArmandoLuis1318
      @ArmandoLuis1318 10 лет назад

      It's so true that's why a great portion Of Latin Americans immigrate to The U.S or other super powers also you should accept that the politicians are corrupt .

    • @lukasxanadu
      @lukasxanadu 10 лет назад +1

      I am sure you know that the Spaniards as well as the Portuguese exploited South America by stealing its gold and turning the Indians into slaves. Brazil, for example, is a very rich country, but badly corrupt.Brazilians are extremely friendly and warm.
      America, on the other hand, had the Pilgrims who left England on Mayflower, seeking religious freedom and the like. America is not a paradise on earth, don't get me wrong, but its constitution is highly respected.

    Brazil a beautiful and large country that's being destroyed by the corrupt government. Million people dying in the line of hospitals, poor public education and transportation system. Stadiums made with public money. This World Cup will put Brazil to shame at a worldwide level, and all the world will know what I am talking about, soon. Brazilian people dont need world cup that has costed up till now an amount of 30 billion. They need more respect and dignity.

  • @lukasxanadu

    Many of these people built their homes without any permits, which was something very common years ago. It is very sad that these people have no place to call home, but I think the government should provide homes for the families. Unfortunately, there is a very negative view of Brazil abroad.

    Then, Don't come to 2014 World Cup, and neither in the 2016 Olympic Games. Don't give money to this foul government.

    Too many problems with World Cup in less developed countries. NOT just Brazil but 4,000 labors died in Qatar 2022 stadium build. events comes before life?? events comes before people?? This isn't graceful events anymore!!! however football itself is beautiful game and we should support all the way!!!

    I've just started watching the video and I noticed exactly what you mentioned. The couple at 2:00 was complaining they weren't payed a fair amount because the property was worth more. But I'm pretty sure they never bought the land. They simply invaded it. I feel sorry for their situation, but they shouldn't be there in the first place. I'm Brazilian too, btw.

    I am Brazilian and British citizen, this video show only the sad part of the problem making people be sorry for the favela people. The video did not show that these people no want to move to another house because in the favela they dont pay tax, dont pay electricity, internet and so on. That why they do not want to move from there. The houses of course should be destroyed to make better roads, the houses build in this area was not paid, they just go and build houses without pay the owner land.

  • @NuraStar77
    @NuraStar77 11 лет назад

    Happens in nearly any city that hosts the Olympics or any other major event/structure. The slums are declared prime real estate, the poor are discarded, and the area is gentrified. It is a human condition of greed and moral depravity, and it happens every day all over the planet. Very sad.

    The ending scene was not about the favelas case. It was about indians and the middle class fighting against the police to stop the demolition of historical buildings. In the scene, the fighting happened in march 2013, i think, and the plan of the city mayor was to demolish a historical building to make more parking space... right beside the Maracanã stadium. :-/

    Its so easy to look down upon those who have less. Its easy to compare seating on a house in the US or europe or a privileged part of ANY country. Please reconsider your statements. Its already hard for them to go SOMEWHERE in life, now they are getting their houses torn apart for soccer and gymnastics ?

  • @chigasaki06

    That is not the case for all of them. If they "invaded," how did the guy recieve a lease for 99 years? The government can't just breach a contract especially without just compensation. If it was so easy, why pressure residents to avoid lawyers? Why lie to them and say that if they so no, they receive even less compensation? This is nothing new, the poor gets poorer and the rich gets richer. Where are these poor people supposed to go?

    I agree. It is a human rights violation, and it's not just about that event, it speaks to a much larger issue. They just use the hosting of the event as a reason to pursue the agenda of criminalizing/de-humanizing the poor. The same thing happened in my city to a lesser extent when Jerry Jones decided he wanted a new Cowboys stadium (i.e. The Deathstar).

    They had move to relocate in the different area rebuild their favelas in Rio de Janeiro and getting the live back together to move another location for living in the slums.They has to have money to redone the favelas and now having running water and electricity and the residents had a new home and especially having big families living in the favelas and the holidays are coming for all of needs of food drive and the gifts for a whole family. The residents living in the favelas of all of the donations of holiday food drives in most of the Catholic Churches with the priests on Sunday masses. The people are happy about the favelas.

NYC is a great city that also have problems, but much less than Rio. The first thing to solve a problem is recognize them instead of denying it like most of fucking Brazilians do.

    instead of destroying the vibrant atmosphere the favela's bring to the city, why not spend the funds improving lives for the people already there? he mentioned not having utilities and infrastructure... but if they just thought out of the box a little bit they could achieve something, instead of trying to do it from a clean slate.

    I don't look down on these people. I'm saying if they took care of their houses maybe they'd be able to keep them. Only reason they're being destroyed is because it looks like shit. I've been to Rio many times and if the favelas were painted I actually think they'd look great. It has great charm. The highway from the airport to downtown Rio needs to be upgraded. It looks like a fucking dump on both sides. I can understand they don't want that to be the first thing tourists see when they come.

    I am not blessed to be a footballer participating a world cup, but if I was I would not go to Brazil nor indeed the next one in Qatar. In the case of the latter, they bought the rights to the world cup, despite the climate being unfavourable to sports. Furthermore, slavery is being employed to prepare for the competition. In the case of the former, Brazil, another nation that made its name enslaving millions of its own people, the same downtrodden people are just being thrown away like the garbage they were considered to be in Brazil's slave past to accommodate glittering new stadia. And guess what? 2 years later in 2016, this land of inequality and discrimination will hold the Olympic Games! Why do nations like these get these elite competitions?

    I don't appreciate that attitude. Favela's aren't any different from the ghetto's of most cities in the world, especially where I'm where I'm originally from. At the end of the day, they are poor and you are making them out to be bad people. If the government wants to move them, at least give them enough to get a proper home. Homeless people don't just disappear you know.
