Thank goodness I found this video! I bought the pattern and would have struggled to make sense of it without some guidance. The video was clear and oh so helpful. Thank you
I bought 3 patterns for each size, I did the short coat first in two shades of green out of fleece as a practice coat first and just to see how it looks and fit , I did the XLarge the next coats will be Large, marked my patterns S, M, L,it looks nice and I put embroidery on the sleeves and pockets, I’m pleased, thank you for this sewing lesson, be blessed.
Thanks for the great sew-along. I have recently discovered the Minerva tutorials and appreciate the pattern and fabric pairings. I have just finished making the coat in the same fabric but in the Steel Blue colourway. Glad you gave the advice on the 100% wool shrinking, so steamed it twice before cutting, and it did shrink quite a bit! I would probably never have chosen this pattern without the demo. The coat is great, it was a fairly easy make an am very pleased with the results!
I just made this coat and used View B; the 3/4 length. I used a couture wool and it came out nice but the ease is very very generous, so it is very big/large. Good job of explaining the directions.
Just completed this!!! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I was struggling to figure out the pattern directions on paper. You gave me the best visual walk thru. Starting my second jacket today :) thank you so much!!!
This tutorial substantially clarified the instructions from New Look. In the guide from New Look 6585, the instructions from 12 to 15 are useless. Further, she gave clear instructions on finishing the inside so that it looks professional. (Other RUclipsrs on this pattern are not good). Minerva created a more beautiful coat than the designers who made the 6585 iteration. Also, could the hood be modified so that it has a generous shawl collar instead and has a lapel in the same fabric as the coat? I would be very interested in learning how to create and sew in a lining for this modified coat.
How do you finish the bottom ((horizontal) hem at the point where you finish the longitudinal (vertical) hem at the coat opening? Also, I want to remove the hood and turn it into a shawl collar. I also want to put in a lining? Any possibility of creating a video(s) for this ?
Do you think a faux sherpa polyester blanket will work for the fabric? I was thinking of using a ribbed and not finishing the seams because the raw edges will be hidden in the pile. Haven't sewn a pattern in a long while so feeling nervous.
So you are showing piece 1 ( the main body of the coat) as two pieces, but the cutting instructions show that it was cut out on the fold... should it be one whole piece or two pieces?
Hi there! Depending on what style you wanted, you can choose either method - if you prefer a seam down the middle you can opt to cut down the middle instead of on the fold, just make sure to apply a new seam allowance to the fabric pieces
Absolutely wonderful clear instructions Thank you… Please kindly consider doing a sew along for this pattern, Simplicity Mens Sewing Pattern 1039 Fancy Dress Costumes (Simplicity-1039-M) I would greatly greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I would have liked to see the finished coat.
Thanks for your feedback

HI brilliant tutorial and easy to follow, what other fabrics can you use?
We recommend any double faced or reversible fabrics, fleece, and pontes would work well as well as wool which was used in the video
I searched for a look at the finished project. None. Please include.
Do we cut the hood and front part on the fold or two separate pieces?
Would have loved to see you try it on.
Thanks for the feedback!
No pic of finished coat🙁

You could use that, I do show you how you can finish the seams so it looks finished inside
Fab sew-along!
We are so glad you think so !!
I think it might be good to do the neck facing in a lovely cotton lawn
Where’s the finished coat picture?
What view are you doing?

Are you doing view B with a hood?
We can certainly look into that for you :🙂
I know this is an old video but thank you! The instructions in the pattern itself are useless.
Glad it was helpful!
