    Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) are both digestive disorders, but they differ significantly in their nature and effects. IBS is a functional disorder, meaning it affects how the gut works, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. However, it does not cause inflammation or damage to the digestive tract. On the other hand, IBD, which includes conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is an inflammatory condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the digestive tract, leading to chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and more severe symptoms. While IBS can be managed with dietary and lifestyle changes, IBD often requires more intensive medical treatment due to its potential complications.

      Your immune system never attacks anything mistakenly. It always has to do something with invaders in the body, bacteria overgrowth, fungi, parasites, viruses, undigested food and more other causes are involved.

    IBS is a "catch all" term that is thrown at you when your Doctor has struggled to find out what exactly is wrong with your digestive system. Establishing cause vs effect is difficult and often requires a dedicated and determined professional. Another video from Krish that lives up to the standard educating the public and entertaining at the same time. Great work!

      Many years ago, I started suffering great pain in my intestines - cramping, bloating, etc. I went to a doctor who ran a series of tests which all came back negative, and then he told me I had IBS, and that I just had to learn to live with it. Because it had started very suddenly, and had gotten worse and worse, this did not sound right to me. So I went to another doctor to see what he said. I described the onset and symptoms - he tapped my abdomen and listened to it etc - and he said "I think you have entamoeba histolitica, a very nasty microorganism". He sent me to be tested for that specifically (I had to take the lab some poop in a container) and started treatment right away. The test came back positive, his diagnosis was correct, the drug treatment worked, and I didn't die - which I could have if it had remained untreated. It had progressed so far that it took me a couple of months to regain my strength, even after the amoebas had been treated successfully.
      So - if a doctor diagnoses IBS because they can't find the cause of the problem, go to another doctor for a second opinion. It may not be IBS at all.

    Love your content and especially the fact that you crush most myths that get circulated in family WhatsApp groups in a daily basis. Kudos for your hard work.
    My only point of difference is your insistence on eating Fiber, which can’t explain why certain populations like the Inuit and many many tribes that flourish on a predominantly meat based diet not only flourish but seem to be devoid of many modern day maladies that your video alludes too.
    I am not a proponent of any particular way of eating and am a omnivore as most of us, but fail to understand the data behind Fiber, which IMHO was more observational by missionary colorectal surgeons visiting Africa to fix their problems only to come back with the conclusion that Fiber is the holy grail. Subsequent this bunkum has been proven to not be true as their diet was mainly animal based with the occasional use of fibrous food ie roots to survive but never thrive.
    Sadly your video on Fiber didn’t help to expand on these issues.

    • @krishashok
      @krishashok  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. On fiber, I’m largely going with meta analysis and systematic reviews that show that for healthy people with no specific gut issues that are inflamed by fiber, the consensus is that it is excellent for health.

    • @rmgpdoc
      @rmgpdoc 5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your reply. But does this make it as essential as we are made up to believe ? I think all these meta analysis confirm that it’s safe to have and as you correctly mention won’t cause issues in non inflamed guts.
      The people who gravitate to social media channels to get information tend not to be the healthiest. And for then to be told that eat Fiber and it may help, in my opinion this is doing a disservice.

    I think Colitis and food sensitivity like lactose intolerance or gluten sensitivity are kinda genetic. My mother has always suffered from colitis and lactose intolerance and she has been unable to digest roti on a daily basis. Same happened to me. Surprisingly she started with all of these after giving birth to me. She says that she's consumed milk all throughout her pregnancy but couldn't anymore after giving birth to me. I was diagnosed with colitis and lactose intolerance at a very young age around 3yrs. Suffered all my life from various degrees of stomach pain and eventually developed endometriosis at 21 yrs. Can we see a video from you on that as well, so that folks can take an informed call? 😀
      I hope you will post something on that topic.
      Good work and keep sharing the knowledge, thanks again.

    Is it true that pealed onion will attract bacteria and fungi and is not safe to be refrigerated.
    ? Is it true that you should not keep cooked potato tomato ginger and garlic in fridge? Is there any science behind all these instructions?

    Please take this question seriously. Is it harmful to cook rice and potato in pressure cooker. There was a Google news even. Please give a correct answer. Because we women find it energy and time saving to cook using a pressure cooker, it releases our time pressure.

    Hi, I am interested in knowing ur take on Millets vs Rice/wheat with respect to health and food consumption perspective.
    Coz I know people who says rice/wheat is the main cause for diabetes and this problem can be largely handled by transitioning our food style more to millets and less to rice/wheat.

      I think people don’t realize that millets are also grains. It is your overall balance of carbs, protein and fat and lifestyle that matters more than specific choices like this. If eating millets lets you eat less carbs, then good!

    Would it have been worth covering FODMAPs? I read a significant chunk of adults develop an intolerance to at least one category over time.

      Felt like allergies, FODMAP etc deserve their own videos, so kept it simpler for Part 1. Will definitely do Part 2

    I've been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and life's been nothing sort of hell. When I'm on steroids, I'm alright but when dosages taper off, problems arise again. I've tried gluten free, lactose free and everything I can. Doctors are really not interested in my diet. How can I get these genetic tests done to optimise for my inflammation in my large intestine ? There are consulting programs that promise prolonged remission with diet and lifestyle changes but they're so expensive. They achieve this through detailed tests, blood work and some trials. Can I find normal gastroenterologist who can help me?? Online or offline, someone who's not just interested in my symptoms and meds I can swallow
