    one thing i’ve had a hard time with is doctors telling the average person we have too much screen time. the world is screens. we work on screens. all day. there needs to be a better solution than just “reduce the amount of time you spend on essential tasks because the world is screens. “

    One thing you haven’t mentioned is bad fitting sleep apnea masks. These can provide air flow across the eyes.

  • @ugraugra
    @ugraugra 5 месяцев назад +28

    From my experience I would add those tips:
    1) try to sleep 1 extra hour and focus on getting quality sleep. Ideally go sleep earlier. See if it makes your dry eyes better
    2) if you work with PC, try to move it away from you so the hot air from the PC is not coming to your eyes (for example during online video calls your PC produces a lot of hot air). I just put my desktop PC on the other side of my room and use long cables
    3) for me more important than omega 3 was Vitamin D3. Supplement at least 6000 IU per day for 3 months and see if it makes any difference. It helped me with inflammation and I dont get so many meibomian glands plugs anymore. You can safely go up to 10000 IU per day.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 месяцев назад +3

    • @ugraugra

      @@DoctorEyeHealth Maybe you misread it - those dosages are for Vitamin D3, not Omega 3. A lot of people dont have enough of this very important vitamin, especially when they stay & work indoors most of the time like me.

    Thanks for a fantastic video chock full of information and resources. On the subject of creating an inflammatory response in the body, alcohol is not the only offender. Sugar is probably the worst, which alcohol contains, but also wheat products, including...pizza! Staying away from refined carbohydrates is always a good idea. That includes pasta, bread, alcohol, sugar. So, your puffy eyes could be caused not by just the beer but the pizza. There are other reasons why typical bread products are to be avoided, especially wheat.

    Hey doc, could you please comment here or in future videos what temperature range "melts" the blepharitis fat build-up? I'm asking not only so I can use the proper temperature with a microwaved moist washcloth, but I'm also curious if my 145-degree sauna can do the job... THANKS!

    • @stevenswann2835
      @stevenswann2835 5 месяцев назад +1

      That's a really interesting question. I've wondered the same about hot Sun on the face. Apparently 40-45celcius is the ideal temperature range for warm compresses, so your sauna theoretically should do the job..

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 месяцев назад +7

      Really good question! Publications show the temperature of the meibum melts at various ranges (the more inflamed the higher the temperature required). 40-44 degrees Celcius is often quoted as the ideal temperature for the glands but 45 degrees on the skin can potentially burn the skin.
      I have never seen a study on using a sauna but myself and several other doctors believe it would help. I wish I had a sauna so I could run a study on that lol.

    Do you have a video where you speak about MKH? German opticians like to sell prism glasses for heterophoria, yet there don't seem to be many studies about it and some doctors even say that this will worsen the heterophoria. Is this true? I know it's not popular outside Germany and Austria ...

    Is benzalkonium chloride as a preservative in Tobramycin and Dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension save to use as prescribed by the eye doctor? BAK is found in almost all the eye medications. Your program is very useful and really appreciated your informations.

      Dexamethasone is a steroid so for me it reduces inflammation in my eyes and reduces pain, but it can increase the eye pressure, which shouldn't be a problem with people who don't have problems with eye pressure like Glaucoma. I do have Glaucoma and still use Dexamethasone. I've always been told my my cornea doctors that Preservative Free eye drops are the best ones to use.

    I had eyelash mites that migrated to my cornea and were eating it. I had no symptoms so was lucky to go to the eye doctor who detected it. She gave me an expensive tea tree oil foaming soap. After using it I started to make my own foaming soap with a tea tree oil liquid soap.

    What are NAC DROPS used for? Can you suggest any lubricant or gel for eyes

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 месяца назад

      NAC drops are marketed that they can help reduce or reverse cataracts but there is limited evidence if they work or not. Some of my favorite eye drops include, Ivizia, Refresh Mega 3, Systane Complete PF, Optase MGD. All of these can usually be found at any pharmacy in the US.

    I have had a few things done to my left eye. The first procedure was a Trabeculectomy of the left eye to reduce intraocular pressure. My eye doctor discovered i had a viral infection in the left eye.After using an oral medication to reduce the infection, My next procedure was a cataract removal with insertion of a lens. Even with the new lens my vision was still cloudy. I was told to wait a couple of months to see if the vision improved. Actually my vision was worse. After that i had a test done to examine the cornea. The result was a clouding at the back of the cornea. My next operation was a partial removal of the cornea, and inserting a doner piece of cornea. The result was a great improvement in vision. However, this vision began to deteriorate. Having a discussion with my doctor, we decided not to have another corneal partial replacement. All these procedures have made my left eye very dry.

    I’m confused. I have eye allergies and dry eye. I’ve started using pataday to calm down the inflammation due to allergies (which dry my eyes out) but it contains BAK. Similarly, allaway preservative free is also apparently not great for dry eye. What can I use for my eye allergies that doesn’t worsen dry eye? I don’t want to leave it untreated, but don’t want to harm my dry eye while trying to treat it

      I second this question

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 месяцев назад +1

      That is a really good question! I often do reach for preservative free alaway. Oral antihistamines can sometimes help but often makes dryness worse. Some of my patients have had good success with using topical cyclosporine to help (for both dryness and allergie sensations). Otherwise there is a new allergy type drop from Optase - I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it could be an option, it is preservative free.

      @@DoctorEyeHealthgotcha, perfect thanks I will try these! Thanks for your content, binge watching your videos has been extremely useful for me! So just to confirm, the BAK in pataday makes it not worth using? My dry eye doctor said not to be concerned with BAK since I’m only using once a day, not using it 5, however I’ve seen a few places on the internet (your videos included) saying not to use anything with BAK at all.
