According to our guest narrator, Coco Ho, “A ladybird is a 17 and under female surfer with an affinity for flight.”
Sierra Kerr won the Ladybird division after its inauguration in Waco, and Caity Simmers took home the decorative life-preserver during the preceding showdown in the Mentawais.
Erin Brooks, Caity Simmers, and Bella Kenworthy have been a part of the program before. However, Zoey Kaina, Bela Nalu, and Sophia Medina are making their Ladybirds debut in this edition of Vans Stab High presented by Monster Energy.
Don’t let their smiles and good manners fool you either; these young ladies are just as competitive as the men. The future of women’s surfing has only upwards potential, and the Ladybirds are rising though the ranks quickly.
Love this. Would've liked it a bit better if it was split between men and ladybirds, but I assume next episode will be pretty much all men's. This event has been genuinely revolutionary for women's surfing, no joke

Caity it’s my favorite lady bird, she has this great style and creativity cemented in her surfing , I like how she’s not always trying to do airs, even when she knows it’s an air contest , something I like the most it’s how much fun her surfing reflects , still showing all of her talent

Honestly guys... You do such sick stuff. This series, the board tests, the floating docks, the having a go at the wozz in your contest write-ups, etc. And the bold move to paywall content with the confident stance that quality journalims should be worth ab buck to the reader. And this episode especially, championing the progression in female aerial surfing. Etc.
And then... two days after this goes online, you publish an article quoting Dane Reynolds, of all people, calling the women acussing Cuomo 'ridiculous' and complaining about 'cancel culture' like some Tucker Andrews co-host. And your writer just flat out agrees. Quote: 'Ridiculous indeed.' That just goes online for the world to see two days after all this big talk up here about the much needed progression and emancipation of women in our sport.
And THEN, what do you do? As comments on your own page start coming about what the hell is Dane really defending Andrew Cuomo and Johan Stuckey - what do you do? Take the chance to provide said 'quality journalism' and go back to Dane and ask him what you should've done right then and there: Dude are you serious?! No. You block the comment section and redact the article, changing the quote around, quietly and without any reflection on what this means, that Dane Reynolds, DANE REYNOLDS, just openly said he chooses to believe men in positions of fame and power over women making themselves incredibly vulnerable by openly speaking out. Just sweep it under the rug. What the fuck kind of journalism is that? None of course.
It is pandering and advertisting, keeping the sponsors happy and the riders on their pedestal. Just when I thought we were actually finally moving in the right direction as a sport and a culture. Bad enough that surfing is decades older than skateboarding and has yet to produce a cultural voice like Grosso's loveletters to provide a cathartic new beginning for an entire culture around gender etc. But to actively silence the discussion when it finally comes up, that makes you part of the perpetrators. Is this what you want for your ladybirds? A world where if someone in the industry ever abuses his power and position to do something unspeakable to them, which let's fucking face it is not such an unlikely scenario at all, which is terrible and deserves 'journalism' in its own right, for these girls to feel and to KNOW that there's people like Dane out there, who apparently think them ridiculous if they speak out and in a sick and twisted way even guilty of 'cancel culture' against these men. Men, closer to gods within the industry, who have never had to change their fucked up opinion because you killed the moment where he could've learned and be confronted? And for fucks sakes, DANE!?!!? with a super woke wife and two daughters?! and you just going 'indeed'?? WHAT THE FUCK
