RED ONE is now known as L980 and follows a similar track. The VALKO SIDs still exist, Long Sands is now waypoint LOGAN and Ongar is the Lambourne VORDME.
Identical R/T and similar checks but new waypoint names, taxiway and runway designators, more automation, display screens instead of gauges, bigger control towers and a few more female and ethnically diverse pilots and controllers.
Wow this was a massive find. Thanks for sharing it. I remember watching this programme when I was a child with my dad. My dad was in air traffic at Heathrow and while we knew many of the controllers featured, it was filmed featuring a different 'watch' than my father's, but what a great reminder of the work they did back then without the technology that air traffic controllers have today.
15:38 SMOKE! Lovely. I remember that smokey, oily cloud from those days... of course it's so much better for the lungs that that's been filtered out, but gracious it was a sight to behold.
The HS-121 Trident. Was probably the best commercial aircraft ever built in the World. As in style and speed. Superior to the Boeing 727. And that’s a opinion from a U.S citizen. Glory Days. 🛫

Brilliant documentary!. Great to see how both so little and so much has changed. Also love the Trident, I was born in the wrong era to fly on her but so iconic as one of our last great commercial jets. It’s a shame our own airlines ruined her. Still annoys me to this day
Great programme; the Trident 1C featured (G-ARPH) was eventually retired to the Cosford Museum, UK. Sadly a few years ago she was broken up; but her flight deck was saved and is now on display at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune, Scotland.
The Trident was destined to be a 727 killer.... But alas thanks to various decisions, it was too tailor made to BEA specifications, and a great opportunity was lost.
Dan Cushing the 727 although had more fuel efficient engines, couldn't do on its best day what Trident was built to do. I remember reading in flight school about her first ever autoland in the spring of 1964. to this day, a metal model of the HS 121 sits on my night table💖
The Trident could take off, fly and land with no input from the pilots. The 727 couldn't do that. As with most British tech, it was screwed up by short sightedness and committees of pen-pushers
This can't be from 22 January 1973 because I've just looked at the TV Times from that week and it isn't even listed. Could that be because this particular copy is from the Anglia TV region?
Back to an age when Britain were British and did marvellous things. Now we have political correctness, Brexit, Trump, Putin, not offending anyone, and some Virus.

Thanks for posting this. It’s fascinating seeing what has and hasn’t changed in aviation over the decades.

15:55 Engine 1 is a smokey joe. Great video 😎😎

Happy memories of a bygone era
Many people would love to relive the 1970s
i realize I'm kind of randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
Geoff Large was my watch manager when I joined ATC in 1978... Great film and happy memories 😊

Trident at Manchester airport, inside has the smell of the 70's.
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Captain Mike Channing. He was well respected and loved by all. Rest in Peace, sweet soul💖
"If you've ever flown by air . . " Yes, it's still the best way to do it!

Fantastic! Thank you.
It would be good to do follow up in 2023, a 50th year comparison of how jet travel has changed

Why worry about an old historical decision?

Bloody brilliant!!!
RIP “Papa India”
Wonderful find.
Nice Posh English. How well a complicated operation was handled using technology of old.
But back in the day it was "cutting edge"
'Will the aircraft be preparing for a landing now?'
'No, it will be nose-dived into the River Thames….'
Shaw Taylor....Police 5....keep 'em peeled!
An arrest was made of the man in the yellow shirt

You are right, they shortened it, damn shame, my dad flew them, they were the fastest commercial jet airliner
Here we go again, Our airplane was "vastly superior to Boeing" PITY we only sold 10 of them!

They thought the old tower was distinctive

Does anyone know from where the music at the beginning comes?

not so busy back then
Busy enbough for the state of the equipmenmt back then !

Besides all that, Thatcher destroyed British innovation. There are more English working in New York than ever.
Papa hotel the one before Papa India which crashed at staines
I was 3 years-old in 1973! I bet a lot of those people are dead now!😳🥺
Can I have an H please, Bob?
Look at the crap coming out of those engines, vc 10 was the same lol
Engines are much cleaner, quiter and more efficient
Jetliners back in that era used low bypass turbofans and turbojets.
Camp as Christmas..
