50,000 jobs in Port of Baltimore?! Amazing port.
When this story first broke it was 15,000. In a week it'll be 500,000.
If I can say one thing our main distribution comes from Baltimore. I’m sure our products come from there.
for how important ports are, they should've had barriers protecting the pillars. every bridge near ports in america should have some kind of barrier to avoid situations like this
I was thinking the same thing. That should have been first and foremost.
That makes way too much sense. Remember, you're dealing with the intelligence level of government workers making these decisions.
No bridge in the world is designed to take that kind of hit.
Maryland considered that but rejected the idea because it was too expensive. Penny wise and pound foolish.
@@rack9458 Only smart comment, the other two guys have no clue about physics.
Praying they can find the other workers that lost their life's so the families can have closure
Sonar has found them, but the debris is preventing them from pulling them out.
People pass everyday do to horrible circumstances, how many Afghanistan translaters were abandoned and ended by the Taliban. To this day they remain in hiding. Where's the stories on them. The only reason is because they were migrants. That's why we, that's the only reason. How many Bridges have collapsed in America in the last 10 years do to crumbling infrastructure.

Shows you how vulnerable the ports are
The shipping company needs to pay for all loss, wages, the bridge and all damages to the economy
"trapped under an estimated 2-3000 tons of metal." That calculation appears to place the weight of the entire bridge on the ship. The truth is, they should have already moved that small bridge section from the bow and start pulling on the ship but that isnt happening.
theres hazardous materials in the bow of the ship and the ship bow is touching bottom , I think worst case scenario they'll have to unload the ship before removing that final section of bridge resting at the bow
That bridge weighs 10's of thousands of tons. Your figures are way off. I'm sure your thoughts on the timeline are equally as accurate.
authorities have to do a detailed investigation. unfortunately that meant leaving things still for a time.
Pretty sure that bridge ways a lot more than 2-3000 tons that would be about 1000 cars worth of weight which considering this bridge could support close to that if not more it's weight has to be magnitudes greater.
You can look at the Sunshine bridge disaster in Florida to get some idea of what it takes. The new bridge is the modern design of suspension with usually a single tower and a wide channel under the bridge. This design is used all over the world and looks good also. I guess it all depends on the approaches and putting it all together to fit the present roadway approaches. The new Sunshine bridge also has well protected piers.
Yeah the same thing happened to it back in the 1980's, a barge/cargo ship hit one of the piers due to bad weather/mechanical failure and collapsed part of it. Took seven years to rebuild, while doing it they built artificial islands around the supports and installed more concrete pillars to hopefully stop anything that might hit again.
All of these workers at the port is going to be off for Easter ,,🐣 they gonna be able to spend more time with the family and community. Please make sure you support the local restaurants in the area .
Spending time with family is pretty meaningless when you can't pay rent. Not to mention Baltimore isn't home for many of the workers.
Hey Maryland!!…(and everywhere else in America), two words…
They’re easy ones: INFRASTRUCTURE NOW.
Thank you, Joe Biden
Too bad we've all but scrapped our heavy industry. Now the steel has to come from China.
20 years to rebuild a bridge 🌉 wow 😮 that’s just ridiculous
Nope! 3-5 years
My bet is that the bridge will be rebuilt with the same narrow, two lanes in both directions with no safety shoulders as if this is 1975 traffic. All new bridges and highways should include at least three travel lanes and safety shoulders at minimum in 2024.
How was the Government willing to step in so quickly and not blame the shipping company? Fishy AF
Hmmm… it’s a mystery.
Well, the problem has to be fixed ASAP. Litigation and investigations can be done at the same time. Did you watch the video?
The government stepped in to open the port up. That's the priority. Millions of dollars are lost every hour that passage is blocked. Whatever they covered now will likely be reimbursed as part of the massive fines/settlement proceeds that will be determined years from now.
Because there hasn't been an investigation yet. Use your head
They didn't say they weren't blaming the company but they have been in contact with the company
The port authority controls the movement of ships in and out of the harbor. I recall that a tug boat was helping the Dali until it didn't.
Without the port, Baltimore will be crap. Oh, wait.
Know see we're you wrong the port effect just more than Baltimore. Do your history on ports. Worry about we're you from. Lease we will be getting a new much better bridge. Baltimore is strong.

See my comment in the comment section. This is definitely an agenda! Matter of fact.. I'll copy and paste it in the following comment.
In Numerology, Maryland equates to 128, 88, 34 and 47. Those numbers, especially 128, are very important and ill explain why.. this will be long, but definitely worth the read! On December 8th, or.. 12/8, the Netflix movie, 'Leave The World Behind' came out. In the movie, a ship loses control and heads toward the beach. The ship's name is White Lion. In numerology, White Lion equates to 128. Also.. 2hrs and 8mins into the movie, or.. the 128th minute.. you will see a collapsed bridge. Now this.. the bridge collapsed at 1:28am. That's the 88th minute of the day. It stood for 47yrs. August 1st is Francis Scott Key's birthday. From August 1st to March 26th, is 34wks exactly. And from March 26th to August 1st, is 128 days. Salvadore Dali has a painting about a broken bridge. The name of that painting equates to 128 and what is the ship's name that hit the Key Bridge? 'The Dali'. Also.. January 28th, or.. 1/28, the Ravens lost to KC in the AFC Championship Game. From that day to the bridge collapse, is a span of 58 days. In numerology, Baltimore equals 58. It's time to wake up folks! There's an agenda taking place against the American people. No way can all of those things just be, "coincidence".
If only it were that easy.
Instead of the taxpayers paying to rebuild the bridge, does the tanker ship have insurance?
Yes, to cover the damage to the ship. I think the reason a State licensed harbor pilot takes over the ship while entering and exiting port is for liability reasons.
We did just pass a $2T infrastructure bill, one would assume Maryland could take the funds allotted to the state for this. I don't understand why Congress should have to pass a separate bill. Why are federal funds going to what should be a State issue?
You know how long that would take?
Well, I would agree, and I'm pretty sure they will be on the hook to some extent. But, this is the type of thing our taxes are for, not all the frivolous stuff that goes on. That port being shut down affects you, whether you know it or not.
They will get a bill for the damages. A claim will get filed. But for now, Biden
put up the cash...
That could take years to resolve on who's at fault. Both parties are gonna fight till the end. The shipping company and insurance are most likely going to argue for a lower payment or say it was outside their control. And we hope that company has money watch them declare bankruptcy
"Embedded" with the US Coast Guard? Now that is "drama queen" talk...
Fun fact: Pete Buttigieg is Secretary of Transportation.
So something might actually get done?
It seems like the easiest place to clear a shipping channel is where the ship is. The bridge is literally on the ship, and not underwater. The port needs to desperately need to be opened. It won’t be a wide channel, but seems to be the best option.
Edit. Your comments are a cesspool. Goodluck with life y’all.
So where is the cut ?
Another horrific chaotic moment!……
Doesn't the state already have an unemployment system??? Why new??? Why special??? Same as every other citizen on Maryland.
The former commander of the US army in Europe, General Ben Hodges, called for isolating Crimea by destroying the bridge over the Kerch Strait, and using long-range weapons to make the peninsula "unsuitable for Russia." In the meantime, the general will train on U.S. bridges.
Shorty was gettin busy 1:08 for a second I ain’t kno what she was doin 😂
Guess who's going to pay for the cleanup? Yup, taxpayers. Not the container ship owner.
Correct. Because a public employee, port authority, was driving the ship at the the of the accident. It's not any fault of the ships owner or captain
@@rack9458Wrong!!! The ship crapped out!!! Nothing to do with the pilot!!!
@@johnp139 It is the Pilot responsibility to see the ship through, in any case the bridge should have had fenders.
When do we find out why the ships propulsion system suffered such catastrophic failure? Seems to me it shouldn't be that difficult to figure that out.
The workers and business owners need to get together and file suit against the shipping company and its insurers.
Nonsense, why has the city of Baltimore not upgraded the bridge knowing that container ships have grown in size by ten folds since the bridge was built and a similar accident happened in Florida in 1980.
@@iorr98please educate yourself on the incident before you embarrass yourself with ignorant comments like this one that slander my community. Any and all of the southern ports can handle the load. Politics prevents critical thought.
Surely the ship was insured before sailing.
This is an insurance claim, just like any other accident.
I’m waiting for the GQP Taliban to refuse to fix the bridge because they can use it as a leverage point for some other unpopular cultural issue.

No it's not these guys want to go back to work
Insurance should pay to rebuild..not tax payers dollars
Your taxes aren't going up one penny. You'll still be able to by Trump swag.

I’m scared
If this would have happened in Ukraine, US navy would have been there rescuing people and cutting away debris on the same day…
Where’s the captain?
In a harbor, the local pilot is in charge. With a total power failure, the pilot had seconds to react. The Pilot shut down the bridge and saved a lot of lives.
Has Bootygood deemed it a racist bridge?
Absolutely racist 😅
How about a bridge
supported by balloons ?
Chinese Spy Balloons
Just remove/clean the center section
Just tow away the center part to the side way
Crane raises the fell part
The tow boats tow the part
No crane in the world can lift that much bridge, they are gonna have to cut it apart to do so and to do that you are gonna need divers in the water working in almost zero visibility, dealing with river currents and the cold temps, its gonna take awhile.

So, if you hold back tears, shed them
When your pain is too harsh to accept.
Tears are lovelier than a smile
When they come from those you love

When you're summoned from above.
