    This is simply the best tutorial video how to make time lapses from dslr or mirrorless cameras on RUclips. The most interesting part I like best is the nd1000 filter to slow down the shutter speed to 1/2" in daylight.

    Another fantastic tutorial Griffin, thank you so much! I've dabbled with time lapse before, but use the sped-up video technique, which as you say does look glitchy.
    There's something magical and enchanting about time lapse and I loved the videos at the end, and appreciate you taking the time to share those - I've now got the sudden urge to get my Nikon out and try this style of time lapse for myself!

    This is exactly what I was looking for, a how to time-lapse on the GH4. I was actually watching a lot of your videos again yesterday on the GH4 hoping to learn more about the camera and etc. Not much how to time lapse videos out there for the GH4. Yours is by far superb. Do you ever have issues with the live view not accurately displaying what the sensor captures? Exposure looks great on the display and histogram but when I snap the pic, its darker? I use the speedbooster 0.64x version and a sigma 18-35mm f1.8.

    • @GriffinHammond
      @GriffinHammond  8 лет назад +1

      Unlike in video mode, in photo mode, the live view on the display does not show you true exposure-it auto-brightens or darkens to make it easier to see. But when you snap the photo, it shows you the actual exposure. But trust your histogram and exposure meter to see if you're too bright or dark.

If I were to take a timelapse that tracked the sunset, as it went from day to night, how might someone adjust their camera to find a balance with exposure?
    Thanks.

  • @JurassicFilmsCo

    Griffin, I have a question I would really love if you could answer: I have a GH3, with a shutter count of 12,500ish. Do time lapses of this nature wear out the shutter? (I wonder because it's mirrorless), and how much shutter count until I should begin to worry about my GH3 breaking on me? I know you've had all the GH cameras; what's your shutter count experience? Because time lapses are quite photo-heavy.

    I am using Time Lapse in my GH5 to take self portraits on a tripod. I want to be able to take several shots without going back and forth and using the self timer which seems to have a max limit of 10 seconds.
    But I would like to be able to review the photos from the time lapse in my camera. Is there a way to do that?
    I can see the individual photos when I put my photo SD card into my iMac but I could not figure out how to view my photos right after I finish the time lapse and view the photos in my camera.

    I noticed you were not using the electronic shutter? I've heard that it drops to 10 bit if it is used instead of 12 bit. If you have made them both ways do you think it really makes that much difference on the final output? Is shutter count that important?

    • @GriffinHammond
      @GriffinHammond  8 лет назад

      I know I wouldn't notice the difference. I find resolution is way more important for quality than bit depth, so if you're shooting high-rez photos, it'll look great as video. I'm not worried about shutter count.

    Quick noob question- wondering if anyone can help. With timelapses, do you keep all the settings for exposure fixed? For example iso. Or do you leave it on auto? I'm just thinking for scenes like sunrises, what would be the best way to capture it while light levels are shifting?
