Fujifilm X-E1 and X-E2: are they really that different?

  • These two cameras are very similar to each other, but I think the differences make the X-E2 worth the price difference.

    Very nice photos Juan! I bought my X-E cameras in this order: X-E3, X-E2s and X-E1. Like you, there is practically no image difference if you shoot RAW and the JPEG differences are real but subtle.
    Like you mentioned, the X-E1 is becoming a cult camera and is hard to find and has become much more expensive in the last year or so. It used to be a good camera for those on a very limited budget, but no longer. I checked reputable used camera sources and they don't even have the E1 in stock.

    I own the X-M1, a sister body to xe1. It also has the white only focus peaking, but I dont mind it at all. The articulated screen of the M1 makes it quite handy to shoot in any camera position. I shot all of my vintage lenses with it from 20mm all the way to 300mm and it works like magic.

      The lack of colored peaking is probably why I never got an XM1. Not sure if our old XA1 had it, it came out a month or two later but just before the XE2.
      A new XM2 would be awesome as it is so tiny. And I prefer it's more simple flip screen compared to the XE4. Just pops up to 90 degrees in a simple motion. I have no interest in a selfie screen.

    Helpful video! The xe1 is in my short lists of Fuji's to try eventually. I actually did own an xpro1 and really enjoyed it. Just sold it to buy something I really wanted (Pentax related I'm sure, haha!) Interesting hearing your thoughts between the two especially since I hear all the good things about the xe1 sensor.

      I've never tried any of the X-Pros, I would like to but they are all very overpriced.
      I have to warn you though--a friend of mine had insisted for years that Fuji was the system for me. I resisted because I didn't want to have yet another system with more cameras and lenses to buy. Until I tried the X-E2. Seven bodies later (including an X-A1 converted to full spectrum) here I am...😱

      The X-E1 is a gem. Worth picking up before the price inevitably skyrockets.

      I regret selling my X-E1.
      Sold my X-E3 in a few months, bought an X100V.

    Enjoyable and informative :) I love my X-E1 and agree about Fuji's peaking not being all that great, though so far I find it easiest on the X-E1. I also enjoy the results from that cam more than the other Fuji's I've owned; X-T2 (sold), X-Pro2 (traded), and my current X-E1 companion, the X-H1.

    I have an XE 1 and I rented an XT 3 for two days.
    1. The XT3 image has become more "mainstream " this factor continues all the way through the range to the HS2.
    2. As a Canon user I was blown away by the "flavour " of colours from my
    X E1❤
    3. As a new guy to Fujifilm,
    the XT 3 for me was far too powerful and complicated, so therefore it was too easy for me to get into a mess.
    Generally I think Fujifilm is a Photographic "system" which the new cameras cannot emulate.
    I think Fujifilm should have a Xtrans 1and 2 sensor simulation for their new cameras.😊

      Yes I would LOVE a modern camera with a 16MP sensor like those from 2012-2014!

      It's just a cheap Fuji FX to M42 tilt adapter from China I got on ebay. Something like this: www.ebay.com/itm/264967516608?hash=item3db14b71c0:g:CRwAAOSwQ5tfzfB-

    I also had both, but sold the X-E1 & kept the X-E2. You neglected to mention the fact that the X-E2 has noticeably less shutter lag and quicker & more accurate focusing (the X-E1 has lesser contrast focusing only) than the X-E1 as well

    Hi Juan, great one. But you are wrong about one thing: "You can never have too many camera's as I see it" :-)

    Juan, Which one would you prefer the most. Pentax MX1 or Fujifilm XE1/XE2 ;-)

    • @JuanBuhler
      @JuanBuhler  Год назад +1

      That's hard to say. I think they are very different cameras. With the MX-1 I shoot from the hip, looking down in the screen. With the X-E[123] I shoot through the viewfinder. I'll use either camera based on mood, or how shy I feel that day, factors like that.

    • @Zainphotography

      @@JuanBuhler Thanks for the reply. I just got my self a remote control for MX-1 and it has made things so much easier when shooting from the hip position. 🙂

    XE2 is miles ahead, mainly in terms of speed in all aspects. Only exception is that the XE1 has slightly better JPGs, although you could argue that the lack of Classic Chrome balances that out too.

    Hold on. Did you say you paid $150 for like new condition of the E1? I am just looking here in Australia, and the price is $770.

    • @JuanBuhler
      @JuanBuhler  Год назад

      Wow! Yes I did pay $150 for it, it was before used camera prices went up, and before the x-e1/x-pro-1 sensor started getting tons of hype. It was a good price even at the time, they were going to a bit over $200 iirc.
