  • In this video, I pull out one of my slide-out windows and inspect for any leaks or water damage. Then I remove the old butyl tape sealant, clean, and reseal with new stuff.

    Hi first video found on this got water wet coming in down by the bed wardrobe area of the Cottage 40CCK model elderly lady here. My son in law at the time removed two big windows for me and found that the windows all were sealed with double side tape! They are now resealed and no more problems. Just looking and hoping you will have the answers I need. Eric went around and put slide covers on all of the slideouts to stop any water getting in so it maybe coming from up top when it rains thanks for the video

      If the wardrobe is in a slide out make sure to check the flooring area. Leak could be seeping in at the bottom. See a problem I had with mine here www.loveyourrv.com/rotted-rv-slide-out-floor-repair-fixed-manufacturer-flaw/ Also if you are in a cold wet climate sometimes condensation can be a cause. It forms on the walls at night and drips down pooling on the floor over time. Running a dehumidifier and leaving the wardrobe door open a bit solves the problem. Cheers, Ray

    Looks like an easy enough job to do. I have a 2019 Jayco 22E Nighthawk and the big window located on the drivers side I have seen some amount of water coming in. No idea how its coming in. I used some caulking around the window but not sure I used the right one. Will need to take a look in the spring. Anyway if I have to remove the window and reseal, it looks easy enough to do..Thank so much...

    It's a good idea to put the sealant tape on cool so it better to work with. Next hit the frame with the tape and window jam it with a heat gun it up to get it real tacky just before installing the window in place. That should allow good contact between the two surfaces.

      Interesting, thanks for the tip, I haven't heard of foam core butyl tape. It looks like my OEM just used regular butyl tape, haven't found any leaks, so I guess it works for my windows. I think once the new tape settles I'll run a bead of non sag sealant caulking around the outside edge as a second layer of protection. Cheers, Ray

    Just found (Thank you youtube) this video and it is raining where I am and my window about that size is leaking on the inside of the fixed window pane. My rig is 2020 and it appears that the gasket on the fixed pane is not installed correctly. Do I need to remove the whole window in order to fix the leak around the fixed pane? Could I temporarily silicone the inside to stop the water ?? Thanks great video

      To do it right I would take the window out and see what is the issue. For a temp fix I'd look at maybe some type of tape around the outside seam. Something like this - www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/p/d/v000274856/ I used it one winter for some vinyl skirting and it held well. Available at many hardware stores www.google.com/search?q=3m+non+residue+duct+tape&oq=3m+non+re&aqs=chrome.0.0i512j69i57j0i512j0i22i30l6j0i390.10048j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Cheers, Ray

    Do you have a bit of delam going on along that rear corner bead? - Or was it just the angle of the light?
    I have some minor delam on my RV that I hope I have sealed up.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +2

      Thanks. :) No, it's not delam of the Filon fiberglass coating but rather it has to do with the back of the RV being hollow and not filled with foam board like the sides of the trailer. It's basically an aluminum frame with pink insulation stuffed in-between two thin 1/4 wood panels, It's fairly normal to see some waviness to the outside panel, especially as it heats and cools.

    Hi Ray, quick question: Let's say you dont add butyl tape aroud your frame and you just seal with sealant aroud the window from the outside where your fiber glass meet the outside window frame, just a regular sealant joint like we do once a year. Do you think a sealant around the outside could be good so the water doesn't go in the wall ? I try to figure it out if the factory forgot the butyl tape and just made the final sealant joint around the outside window if it is safe for water.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад

      I'd want to have the butyl tape as well, wouldn't trust just the outside sealant as it tends to crack being exposed to the sun all the time

    Hey Ray, apologies for asking, I think you might have mentioned it before in a video, but, if I did watch that video, I may have forgotten what you said in that video, but, how and why did you and Anne get into the Rving set up you 2 are now? If you like, I think that it might be a good question to answer in a q and a video for 100k, or just a generalization perspective video look back type video. Also, for the tape that you mentioned about turning to that of bubble gum, that would definitely be a big doh moment.☺️😄

    • @LoveYourRV

      Haven't though much about it. I'm just hoping at this point I don't go backwards! :) So many people doing videos nowadays. But seriously sub counts are nice but don't mean a whole lot, I'm sure a good portion of mine don't even get the notifications or are subbed to hundreds of other channels so never watch me. I always ask ya the off topic questions but you haven't said too much lately about the Ram. I ordered a new Ram 6.7 HO cummings 3500 and I phone my local dealer out of curiosity to see what they wanted to change the 2 filters, engine and frame fuel filters and they told me $400 plus tax for parts and labour. I nearly fell off my chair. Have you changed the fuel filters yet and did you get a crazy price like that? One dealer tells me at 15,000 km and another dealer told me at 15,000 km only to empty them I guess for water.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      I posted a video about the Ram 3 weeks ago. Had a issue with the tranny shift cable www.loveyourrv.com/shifter-transmission-cable-failure-ram-2018-3500-truck/ Got it fixed under warranty.
      I've been following the Cummins maintenance schedule www.cumminshub.com/6.7-cummins-maintenance-schedule.html once a year or 15,000 miles for fuel filters, so have done the fuel filter twice now and due pretty soon. I don't take it to the dealer, instead use a lube place. The filters are pricey. www.amazon.ca/Dodge-Cummins-Diesel-Filter-Mopar/dp/B0718X28V6 Last time at the local Great Canadian Oil Change I paid $372.92 CAD ($298 USD) for having the oil changed and the two filters changed. Price of diesel ownership, better fuel mileage but higher routine maintenance costs. Every mechanic I've talked to highly recommends changing the fuel filters often on a diesel. Cheers, Ray

      BLACK: Is the most popular color since it provides the best visibility when looking through to the outside.
