I don't peel off the plastic, it can be used as a screen saver. Don't like to have scratches on the display that could occur while at camp. Can clip on an external antenna for better reception.
Which SW Bands does this radio have? And one thing they should do is to add a Stereo headphone output, that way this could be used on the SW Bands to decode some of the various digital modes. Also is the bulb replaceable? Or is it a non replaceable LED?
5.7 to 17.9 MHz that's the shortwave bandwidth of the receiver, listed in the manual. What you can pick up, without an antenna at that wavelength is anybody's guess.
