Good news - I was the person who lost the hat at Disneyland. They found it! And they mailed it back to me. My OG Publish hat is safe and sound, and back in my hands. Love ya guys.
Hello Colin and Sameer, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to you from India regarding a friend of mine who has recently received three community guideline strikes on his channel with 1.4 million subscribers. These strikes were issued for videos that were unintentional and not expected. However, despite his repeated requests to RUclips, he has not received a positive response from them. He has shared with me the videos that received these strikes, and I too was surprised by the decision. It's truly sad to see his four years of hard work being taken away from him like this. When he spoke with me about his situation, I couldn't help but feel emotional. He is a genuine person who has worked hard to build his channel. I'm reaching out to you both to see if there's anything you can do to help him. Perhaps we could work together to find a solution and give him back what he deserves. I truly believe that with your expertise and influence, we could make a difference in his situation. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards,
WOW WOW WOW!!! You played my clip at the end 🤩 I was driving and listening and I started screaming and I had to pull over 😅 you guys educated me for such a long time. I'm glad I was able to reciprocate even if just for a minute. Keep up the great work guys
14:01 Who remembers Colin and Samir on TLN with the Weekly Watch walking around LA and filming in Samir’s car with a Canon VIXIA mini? Those were the best days of RUclips.
It was so awesome seeing yall at SXSW! Thanks for staying after the panel and chatting with me. Plus I can say I made a cameo in a video! (I'm the one in the blue polo in the background of the first video question.)
Had a TON of my friends send me this episode excited to hear my question answered LOL thanks guys! I loved the answer and how we ended it with a quote from Rick Rubin 🔥😎
I think the next big swing will be a counter balance back to the middle of retention editing and zero editing. I understand that certain niches will likely always maintain the retention editing feel, but I wouldn't be surprised if many niches slowly fade into a more natural sounding conversational edit as opposed to not a single frame being silence.
I would *love* to see a channel in the Discord where large Creators interact with/ask questions of other large Creators. Where anyone can view the channel, but you have to be vetted by a mod to be able to post. The reason being that you can learn a lot just from questions that are asked. Because I would be surprised if big Creators were asking the same questions as small Creators.
I total agree. The whole idea of of creating for just the creation sake is something that I love. It really does feel like not much on RUclips is raw, genuine insight and everything is focused on retention and getting clicks, but I think that era is starting to end. That’s why Ryan Trahan has become so popular, he is honest and keeps himself humble, showing his humanity through keeping his mistakes in the video, making a raw relatable feeling. If all we are focused on is force feeding people content, we won’t actually create something worth consuming.
Id love a discord for C&S, I’ve never been a reddit guy, some discord group ideas, thumbnail A-B testing, SPONSOR advice, and connecting to other creators for collabs or advice
Creator Support, Colin & Samir, & the Entire team are so unbelievably talented & underrated!! The amount of research & information they provide is truly appreciated 💯💯💯 ps. that Porche post👌
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question! It was super helpful. My partner who I'm launching the show with, also doesn't have productivity software in her universe, the same as Colin. So I feel you on that, Samir 😂 Thanks guys - Justin (sharp video guy)
This validated a lot of how i feel about content creation in this era. the fatigue of being catered to with algorithms trying to maximize user retention on the site has made even the process of BECOMING a content creator exhausting. Im no longer a creator, just content to be consumed and asked, "Next?"
Great episode as always! Its true that real experiences and honest storytelling is what people are missing! I think attetion screaming period on youtube is over and the change is inevitable. Keep it up guys!
Quick question for the pod, have you guys watched the Project 863 series by Matthias? It sadly ended back in July butt cultivated one of the strongest communities on RUclips. I think the series was something ahead of its time, hope something like it comes back on RUclips soon!
I've been talking about this since last year and the quote said it SO perfectly! "the problem is that you are writing to be read." I feel that is an added reason for creator burn out, is to people please and not genuinely express our own creative humanity in a natural way like creatives of old. LOVED this episode thank you for the reassurance and being on the head with topics!!
When I was experiencing creative burnout, that’s when I learned that ultimately I have to make content for myself. At first, it meant using my iPhone and vlogging as things come up. But now, it has evolved to me documenting the ups and downs of my life by crafting cinematic vlogs. Some may even consider them short films by RUclips’s standard I guess. While I plan my shots and write scripts now, I see it as me documenting how I currently perceive my life for my future self to look back on. So when I have achieved my version of success, I can remember where I came from and all the struggles I overcame to get to this point.
I'm glad you talked about creator discovery, sorry to plug a bit but on my 2nd channel I've been doing these weekly/monthly podcasts for about 4 years discussing the best and not so best videos from creators with a focus in anime, in order to foster more positive discourse.
Yess, just finished the last episode and thought to myself I'd have time to watch another Creator Support episode. And then it drops. No feeling quite like it, thanks guys! 😎
"Follow your own excitement, not the audience's" Love this! I try to create for myself and hopefully find others with the same interests that will follow along. Not create content for them.
31:50 this is the realest thing I’ve ever heard. Actually though. Sleeping early and getting enough sleep is good for you but man creativity is drifting away. I feel like I’m just floating
Love Creator Support, thanks for another great show! Question for you guys - what's the deal with using clips from popular movies/shows in videos? I'm working on a video about Dark Academia and want to reference a moment in a current popular show and it'd be amazing to use a couple of seconds to show the context. I've seen some videos on big creators channels where they use maybe 3 seconds from The Simpsons or a meme from a movie. Where does copywrite infrigement come in? Is "always" the best rule of thumb?
Been in Minnesota for 1.5 years and I can definitely see why you left from a production standpoint. Love it here but there’s no creator community at all
My dudes. I just crossed 1K in 3 mos. Grinding so hard to build this. So much fun. Thanks for all the info. and tips to become successful. 10k here I come. :)
This conversation about 2017 YT makes me feel like I miss an old friend. This feeling of novelty and something exciting, like anything is possible and I can be this creator too. I don't if the YT creators making the same content now or if it feels like it. I love Ryan Trahan and his content which feels fresh again. But other than that seems like there are no new stars or YT don't know how to find them. BTW, I always stuck to the deep end.
9:40 I fully agree about RUclipsrs being better in the 2010s. There weren't cross-platform requirements. A channel like Casey's felt like a community where participating in its growth was as exciting as watching for me. Things were more exclusive because only on RUclips could those things be done. Whereas now 'virtual subscribers' diminishes the community feeling and the algorithm is more clout chasing copycats (the videos are more predictable in format).
@@MorganNye I didn't even reference those years in my comment so I'm not sure how to answer that question lol my point was that RUclipsrs themselves felt more community based and experimental/exclusive because what they were doing could only be done and fostered here. Whereas now you can find similar content and communities across basically every social media.
I've always wondered how the whole bringing your own mug things worked cuz some coffee shops offer discounts, but I don't wanna share haha. I miss the 2015- to pandemic era of creators, everyone that's well known now has a lot of imitators and it's like the feeling of if everyone is doing it, it's not special anymore kind of feeling. It's a great time to be alive as a creator, but it feels like the special sauce in the air has gone down.
I'm struggling to start my own personal brand online. The thing is I'm a financial broker so I already use online to find clients, attract customers, and connect with people. How do you recommend going about exploring different topics and discovering my own personal brand. If I start something does it dilute my business. Should I do it separate or complimentary? Balancing building a personal brand and your current profession online.
Great discussion. I'm curious about the creator brands you mentioned (Feastables, Chamberlain Coffee). These are basically white labeled products, right? My understanding is that the creators don't have any background in candy making or coffee roasting, they just enjoy consuming these products and put their face/name on something manufactured by a 3rd party. Are there any examples where brand success happened the other way around (ie. an expert coffee roaster built up a RUclips following on a channel about coffee roasting and then launched their own coffee bean brand off of that success)? Thanks!
I agree with the sleeping early and not being creative. When I’m excited about an idea & in the process of a video idea, I will gladly lose sleep just to make it 🫶
You mentioned that you haven't uploaded in 3 months on main channel and I was like really 3 months and I even checked since having this podcast didn't made me realize there were no main channel uploads
Did you guys read Like, Comment, and Subscribe. Do you think we can see more books on how to be a creator as a I feel a lot of creators just upload most youtube advice to youtube.
Mr. Beast rightly says the "algorithm" boils down to improving Click Through Rate and Watch Time, but the problem is this can lead to videos which just string you along for 8-10 minutes with constant hooks and reengagement. He does it better than anyone, of course, but it's like playing fetch with a dog - the dog is arguably more excited when you pretend to throw the ball than when you actually do, the anticipation is more exciting than the reality.
35:55 Yeah, I see that quite a bit. I've always claimed in my videos I'm on the hobby side of things rather than being a pro or freelancer, which might be detrimental or at least gives viewers some level of expectation. The creator could perform mock jobs pretty easily by going on those freelance websites to see what people are looking for.
I feel like speaking about not liking to watch a video that's just desperate to keep you watching for the sake of it, while in other episodes sort of glorifying what Airrack produces is kind of slightly hypocritical. So many of the retention-head styles are the kinds spoken out against, and I feel like the pendulum starting swinging against that like 2 months ago and people saw that as "rebelling" against the new RUclips. In reality, people probably got back to the real world and started valuing their time differently. Now Airrack, and other retention heads, barely even post and are pretty much forgotten about because they add no value to the world behind large amounts of stimulation
For the question about equity split the book Slicing Pie by Mike Moyer is excellent! I'd highly recommend it for any partnership, not just for creators.
“Where are the creators who are making content that may not be favored by the Meta?” “Where are the creators who make something real? Haven’t been done before?” I’m right here. Pick me. Literally. 😂♥️
I love the idea of the Discord but I do wonder why you don’t just collect all the Creator Support posts in a megathread on Reddit? That’s seems like it would still allow creators with questions to have a voice while also preventing those posts from overwhelming the main subreddit
I’ve got a question. Does your “make it to the deep end” gimmick actually work in retaining viewtime? If you didn’t say “deep end” in the next episode, would it make any significant difference?

I have no regrets sneaking into the panel, thanks for chatting with me guys! Excited to see what's next for you guys & the creator space

Just hit 1M+ subscribers / 2.5B+ views - thanks for all the advice :)
14:01 Who remembers Colin and Samir on TLN with the Weekly Watch walking around LA and filming in Samir’s car with a Canon VIXIA mini? Those were the best days of RUclips.
Totally relate to 13:13. I find myself using my 12 year old Sony Handycam more than my DSLR. There’s something pure about that lo-fi look.
That Italian creator story was wild. That's a crazy level of commitment, foresight and creativity. I gatta check him out
Lets give a round of appluse to the Creator Support team who are looking at the statistics right now!

I like the Staff Pick idea! Could we maybe see a Colin & Samir staff picks?? 🤔🤔
Your energy for ideas are the engine for a creative company. One of the best quotes I’ve ever heard.
32:37 completely agree about the best ideas coming early hours of the morning
31:50 this is the realest thing I’ve ever heard. Actually though. Sleeping early and getting enough sleep is good for you but man creativity is drifting away. I feel like I’m just floating

Las Vegas is also seeing more and more creators moving here. I've been here four years now and highly recommend it.
Same, Vegas for 8 years now for me
I would love to give a shout-out to @vladslickbartender who has been here in Las Vegas for 16 years now. ☺️
Been in Minnesota for 1.5 years and I can definitely see why you left from a production standpoint. Love it here but there’s no creator community at all

Career section hit him. I’m a software dev and now make much more talking about software dev 😅 also hey from the deep end
Damn this hit home. Such a good episode.
That was a great episode boys as always boys! Keep up the unbeliavble work!
Question for creator support! Can you talk about management companies! What are some good ones in the uk?

Two funny Colin moments in the end "he didn't take it well😳." And his look at the very end of the video.
amazing cut right there

“Where are the creators who make something real? Haven’t been done before?”

Need a channel entirely for discussing the gripes aired on Creator Support
