E92 M3 owner of 3 years myself. Didn't get the hype when buying the car, and every year since owning it, I am more and more convinced that this is the BEST car you can buy for the money. Does everything right when set up correctly. Maintaining isn't cheap but also is not very frequent. Best sounding, looking and driving BMW in my opinion. Great video

The dual X pipes (or long merge X pipes) sound so good on these. I agree with you on the cats too. Also for what its worth, with the LCI nav units, you can add apple car play to it and retain 100% stock navigation functions and screens. Or with any OEM nav setup (Pre-LCI or LCI) you can get some apple/android car play units that also retain 100% stock navigation functions and screens.

Great vid. Anyone buying an E9X M3 with a DCT gearbox should expect to have to replace the DCT oil pan and gasket at some point. My DCT sprung a massive leak out of nowhere last year. The plastic oil pans just tend to fail after time, not an uncommon problem. Had a full fluid flush done with new filters, gasket and oil pan. Mechanically the DCT boxes are solid and reliable and really fun if you do a GTS tune.

If you’re not able to spend more after the purchase price than what you would spend with any other car, don’t recommend. If you have a budget to play with and can afford it’s maintenance 1000% recommended. My only advice is to make sure you find a good euro shop near you bc BMW (where I live at least) charges 200/hour for labor. Make sure to have knowledge on the car’s rod bearings before purchase, will you need to swap them/have they been swapped already, and (not saying it’s guaranteed) EXPECT and at least account for the fact that you might need to have your gaskets replaced (valve cover, head, and oil filter housing). It’s definitely not just a cheap get in and never think about anything car. Honestly though they’re amazing cars that have so much personality and provide an amazing experience, there’s nothing else like in the price range they’re in

I have both. I find that people want to buy my e92 m3 more and my f80 was my investment!🥲
I find e92 m3 more engaging and the driver is in control of everything. If the driver want all power, the e92 m3 instantly does it. F80 needs a few mili seconds to get what you want. Also, the f80 requires more driver input to handle where as the e92 feels direct and natural.
Anyways, the f80 looks more aggressive but the e92 looks more sleek and sporty. They both look modern but with their own style.
Idk what I prefer but I notice I drive my e92 more since it's more direct and engaging, instant power, comfortable, and better higher seating position.

@Xccord ok, first the speed and second dct.
So first, the e92 m3, when warmed up, the thing instantly goes fast that it your head snaps back to the seat like if a magnet turns on with the flip of a switch. The engine revs to 8500 and as you go up the Rev band the car feels like its going overdrive because peak HP is at the end of the Rev band. Every shift you do it feels like it goes faster and faster where as other cars, while you go faster, you'd feel the power get weaker through the Rev band. Yes torque is low BUT you have torque on all the Rev band while other cars you lose torque mid rpms. This car IS fast. It really is. It loves to Rev and I feel that these engines thank you for that. Just like I say, a redline a day keeps the technician away.
As for DCT, both my m3s are DCT because the e92 was built around that. It was meant for that. The dct is the top ten fastest shifting trans in the world. The downshift sounds so good above 2500 rpm and the upshifts feel so satisfying as they kick your whole body back. I love the DCT. However, for these cars, their is no downsides to either transmission - well maybe. The manual, while it makes you feel more engaged to the car, it makes it sluggish in performance. The car will be slow because of the time it takes to change gears. The drag times are noticeable. People love you for DCT and those same people love you for manual as well cause they're both fun and reliable.
For f80, the dct feel more jerky on standing starts when casually cruising. I've also noticed that applying above 85% of throttle makes the car want to chirp the wheels. I think the rest of the throttle was meant for full power for drifting and sliding - I remember reading something about it being for telling the car you want to slide and stuff. You apply full throttle when you're already going - I guess 2nd or 3rd gear. Both cars have the same DCT, it's just that they're different in software tunes/behavior.
People can talk dump on either cars on either trans but people need time to get to know the car and how it handles.
They both are fun, and both need to be driven differently to understand its performance and characteristics.

Wow I have an e90 sedan manual with 102K on it and none of that needs to be done even taking it to the Seattle BMW dealership for a few things. Other than fluids and the throttle initiators which wasn't cheap, after 8 years of having it, none of that and have had everything done to spec for the eight years I have had it.

Rod hearings are a known failure on these cars. Get them checked or swapped, adds value anyway.

Oversize bearings? I think you meant undersize bearings to give you oversize clearances 😉
Interesting to hear about the fuel sender unit, that's a new one to me.
What's the advantage of having studded hubs instead of bolts? Or did you just have to do that for the wider(?) wheels?
Oh and your car looks fantastic! 😎 Love the wrap colour!

Studs allow me to easily change or re-mount wheels without having to line up and insert lugs all at once. Also allows for spacers if I choose to run them

@@ThicWhips yea I must admit I thought of that afterwards. As an old mechanic I wish for the days when most cars had studs, much easier to put the wheels on!

Little thing about the rod bearings….you don’t need to replace them if you know how to handle this engine and maintenance well….if you let the car warm up and don’t go above 3k RPMS for the first 5-10 minutes of driving and do oil changes every 2-3k miles then the rod bearings will be perfectly fine…I have a family member in the EU that has a e90 M3 and he told me that doing rod bearings over in the EU is rare like it happens don’t get me wrong but it’s all about the owners and how they drive/do maintenance….my dads e93 M3 also went 135k before he sold it and never did the rod bearings….he got a oil test done every 10k miles and it was never an issue…..you just have to let the car warm up and then when you start driving it don’t go above 3k RPMs for a little along with oil changes pretty regularly and you’ll be FINE!!!…..now that being said I’d definitely do rod bearings if you’re getting a used car that was bought from a car enthusiast. Especially if they don’t have a recent oil test done. But if it’s from a grandpa that only drives it on the weekends I’d do an oil test and if it’s fine then I wouldn’t even touch them.

Fantastic mate. Thanks. Should never have sold my E34 540i LE V8 Manual. On the up side though, that means I'll have to replace it with an E9X M3 variant. Sure it's not as fast as an E8X M3 number but geez they sound great getting to the speed limit as quickly as you can 😁

Can’t daily an e46 m3 especially with rust concerns in the UK due to winter salt. Also road quality has gone significantly over the last few years which makes the road harsh. E90 M3 with EDC in comfort is great as daily.

Too late buddy, bought it before watching this video, I had an m4 before this car and all I can say is, the m4 had no maintenance for 100k miles besides fluids and coil packs and plugs. The e92 is uglier IMO, definitely slower, the interior is uglier, but has a more luxurious feel, but the sound it makes almost makes up for the difference
