  • This video provides an overview of the process used to create GMO plants. GMO has become a common term used to describe foods that have been created through genetic engineering. Using the papaya as an example, the video walks through the four key steps to creating a GMO. Keep in mind that the processes for creating a GMO plant, animal, or microorganism may be different.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched Feed Your Mind, the Agricultural Biotechnology Education and Outreach Initiative, to help consumers better understand genetically engineered foods, commonly called GMOs or genetically modified organisms.
