  • This video reviews different methods of genetic modification for crops, including crossbreeding, genetic engineering, and genome editing. Humans have been using traditional modification methods like crossbreeding to breed plants and animals with more desirable traits for thousands of years. GMO (genetically modified organism) has become a common term used to describe foods that have been created through genetic engineering. Scientists are developing ways to create new varieties of crops and animals using new processes called genome editing. These techniques can make it easier and quicker to make changes that were previously done through traditional breeding.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) launched Feed Your Mind, a new Agricultural Biotechnology Education and Outreach Initiative, to increase consumer awareness and understanding of GMOs.
